In the election propaganda platforms in the forthcoming presidential election the common candidate should vouch and say that Ranil Wickremasinghe is to be made the Prime Minister when Maithripala Sirisena becomes President. This should be categorically promised in the political meetings. This statement was made by the leader of the opposition Ranil wickremasinghe  referring to  Maduluwawe Sobitha thera’s refusal to Sirisena  to take part in opposition meetings if he promise executive Prime Minister post to Ranil…Ranil said he would leave the election campaign and submit nominations on his own and still there is enough time for that.

AIYO SIRISENA!!! Mehema unoth RANILGE PARIPPUKEWA NAEDA?

  2. Vis8 Says:

RW showing his real, greedy intents…. same with cbk too.

  3. Daya Says:

I’m pretty sure that neither Ranil Wickremasinghe nor Rev. Sobitha has ever said any such thing.

Maithripala is an excellent candidate, only he must sound more Presidential and stop calling everybody “Sir”. The habit is a common one among decent, Sinhala-only-speaking people of that generation. It does NOT mean that those who talk like that are lacking in intelligence or even that they are servile. However, if Maithri wants to be President, he must grow upin that respect.

Let me re-emphasise that it is only a linguistic habit. I know that I am considered impolite when I refer to persons by name without adding a “Mahathmaya” at the end! Come to think of it, how many today will realise why, when we were schoolboys, it was only our SURNAME that was allowed in school? I’d better supply the answer myself; nobody’s going to research that, I’m sure! We were pretending that we were in a British Public School!!

Will Sajith Premadasa be mad at me if I reveal one of his secrets? I’ve heard him speak English once: perfect British Upper Class English.

This is to all those Buddhist monks who want to engage in politics. Your job as Buddhist monks is to teach and preach Buddhism to to people including to politicians and not engage in politics. Leave your luxury lives and the extreme comforts of the temples and live and behave the way Buddha expected you to live. Have you been doing this we would not be having these problems we now have. Your duty is to guide the people.

  5. Vimutti Says:

Dingiri – Well if JHU is the example of how monks should engage in politics, then I would completely agree with you. They seem to lack the basic education and sophistication in politics, international relations, and economics to be effective on the political stage. Consequently, it is fairly easy for others to use them in their own schemes, some of which are actually harmful to Buddhism.

Does JHU realize that the Western countries that are backing Ranil/Maithripala want make Sri Lanka into another Thailand where Western culture rules, and materialism, gaming and sex addiction have reduced Buddhism to background art and scenery in which most people living there do not know and are not interested in the Buddha’s teachings at all. On top of all this, the Western influence has not lifted most people in Thailand out of poverty, in that they have a much lower GDP per capita than Sri Lanka, and the few there who manage to escape poverty are usually women or transsexuals (men who look like women) who prostitute themselves to white foreigners as part of the sex trade.

    Time to get a clue!

Ranil cant come in trough the front door, ever. So, the question is, why would anyone want him through the back door?

Chandrika gave VP a 10 year no elections/no questions asked deal to rule the North and the East of Sri Lanka. If that dumb bastard took her up on that offer, we Sri Lankans would now require a visa to visit a part of our own country.
During Chandrika’s time, the country had negative growth, rampant corruption, nepotism, inefficiency…….. and the list goes on.

During Ranil’s time, if not for the executive presidency, we Sri Lankans would now require a visa to visit a part of our own country. Corruption and nepotism was rampant.

The Executive Presidency is what keeps the checks and balances against separatism especially at a time when the Parliament is controlled by a party other than the party of the President. Granted, we need to reduce the unlimited powers of the President, but eliminating is not the way to go. Besides, almost all countries that has a parliament system have to end up doing coalition politics which destabilizes the entire system and promotes horse trading to stay in power.

If anyone thinks the Ranil/CBK involvement is a good thing for the country, think again. If this combo wins the elections, within 5 years, we Sri Lankans would require a passport to visit a part of our own country.

  7. SenaD Says:

Without a serious UNP candidate to garner all the UNP votes and the other candidate (MS) to eat into the SLFP vote base the incumbent probably will still get the needed 50%+1.

The UNP nominating a candidate of their own might have been the UNP’s plan all along to make the 2nd preference come into play.

Some of the JHU votes and the JVP votes also will go to MS.

Similarly some of the Muslim votes also will go to the UNP candidate.

The ITAK votes (the Lanka Tamil State Party, call it what it really is, there is no registered party called TNA. It is a deception similar to what had been done previously with the English translation of the name given as Federal Party) will go to whoever the ITAK nominates.

In such a scenario there is a serious likelihood that the 2nd preference would have to be counted giving the challenger a chance to beat the incumbent president.

  8. Lorenzo Says:

What a LOSER this Run-nil joker is!

He should learn to keep is cursed mouth shut.

Tamils are divided between MR and MS.

MOST Tamils are HIGHLY disappointed with MS taking in JHU. Tamils have NO problem with BBS. BBS NEVER attacked Tamil Elamists!!

They argue MR is better because under MR, SL will lose at UNHRC (the only celebration Tamils have) and SL will face sanctions, GSP+ removal, isolation, etc.

Tamils also fear arrest of VIGNESWARAN, ANANTHI, etc. for TREASON IF MS becomes president.

You can see this Tamil division in CT, its comments and votes for comments.

  9. Ananda-USA Says:

The Opposition Ship-Jumpers boat is SINKING, overloaded with All Chiefs!

ALL CHIEFS and NO BAILERS will SINK this canoe!

My Oh My … where will the Ship-Jumpers, the “excellent candidate” for the “Executive President for 100 days” included, jump next?

Unta Allapu Athath Naha, Payagahapu Athath Naha … Neda?

  10. Sooriarachi Says:

Ranil and his bandwagon led by the LTTE diaspora, obviously want Ranil to be the executive president, with all its powers intact.
Sirisena’s role as manipulated by Ranil/Chadrika/TNA alliance seems like a strategy only to divide the vote base of Rajapakse and allow Ranil or his proxy to creep through to power.
Sirisena is not a trustworthy person as demonstrated by the slimy way he defected, and if one reads the article about Parakrama Samudraya and how its water level is kept low to prevent the flooding of land illegally occupied by the Hotel owned by his brother, then, Sirisena too is a corrupt man.
