Hon Don Randall MP

Australian Federal Government Canberra.

I write to convey the thanks & gratitude of our association and I believe of all of peace loving Sri Lanka for your forthright condemnation of the statement of Green Senator Lee Rhiannon on the 26th of November, which as you say suggested that he commemorated the brutal terrorist leader Prabhakaran.

This is not the first time many of us have had to endure misdemeanors of this type from Green Parliamentarians on both sides of the Tasman. Just last year NZ Green MP Jan Logi along with her Australian counterpart on a Tiger Diaspora funded visit to Sri Lanka on a tourist visa flagrantly violated the conditions of their visa by holding a press conference in Colombo at the head quarters of the TNA (Tamil National Alliance,a one time proxy of the Tigers), inviting a response from the authorities and then came  back and raised a hue and cry saying their experience was a demonstration of police brutality that Tamils were being subjected to in Sr Lanka.

It is indeed a crying shame that the democratic right of free speech can be so misused by mischievous elements in this manner  leaving it to those like you and me do the tiresome task of countering such misinformation.

Thank you again for your efforts.

Sincerely,

Dr. Chula Rajapakse MNZM

Spokesperson,

United Sri Lanka Assn

Wellington New Zealand.
