There are some people making false accusations against the government claiming that the present government is taking loans for development projects at higher interest rates. These accusations are made while these parties are standing among people and hobnobbing with those who borrowed money for the government at interest rates higher than 10% when they were in power” National Freedom Front leader, minister Wimal Weerawansa said yesterday at. a press conference and challenged these parties for a public debate on this issue.

Elaborating further Wimal Weerawansa said that. ” Today, some parties are trying to make an opinion that the government has taken foreign loans at 7% interest rate as a dishonest deal  and misappropriation in order to gain some ulterior financial benefit out of it. But I would like to point out that when they were in power they had taken loans at much higher interest rates”.

Let us consider the period between 1977 to 2005, Despite of the concession given to us as a developing nation, the loans taken for development projects during Chanrika Bandaranayake’s and J.R.Jayawardene’s presidential rule were at far excessive interest rates”.

Let’s take for example the period up to 2005 before election of President Mahinda Rajapakse”.

The government has entered into an agreement with a French commercial bank for a loan on 1982/09/28 for Nilwala River Project. The loan amount was 23.8 million French Francs. The annual interest rate was 10.85%. For the same project the government has obtained further 20.8 million French Francs on 1984/01/24. The annual interest rate was 10.85%. In 1987, 69.2 million French Franc were obtained through a new credit agreement at an Interest rate of 8.59%”.

Similarly in 1986 they have taken 38.6 million British pounds for the Samanala Wewa Hydro Power Project at the annual interest rate of 7.4%. In 1986, for the same project an additional £ 5.3 million British pounds have been taken at the Interest rate of 8.3%”.

For the Kotmale Oya project the foreign loan was taken at the annual interest rate 9.95%”.

For Ambathale water purification project 61.5 million French Francs was taken at an interest rate of 9.2% in 1990”.

In 2001, there were 6.7 million euros borrowed for Muthurajawela reclamation project at annual interest rate is 7.7%”.

These are the “mega crooks’ deals. Should the Loans taken at 10.85% annual interest rate be called  Giga crooks”  ?.

After 2005, when Mahinda Rajapaksa has taken over the presidency, he has not obtained any foreign credit loans over 7% interest rates and mostly obtained at 2 – 3% interest rates. However, there were a few occasions with specific banks that loans were obtained at. 4 – 5% interest rate”,

There are some parties trying to create some evil illusion over United People’s Freedom Alliance, while pampering Ranil – Chandrika who were responsible for taking loans over 10% interest rates”.

Today, while keep on rubbing shoulders with giga crooks not mega crooks” these parties try to point the finger at the government that has never accepted rates more than 7%”.

It is obvious that these parties must have entered into a lucrative contract to bring these mega crooks into power. We will challenge them. We challenge them to come for a public debate on who is responsible for getting loans at higher interest rates for development projects?” Mr. Wimalawanse said.

Has Champika become the Gost of  Sambandan?

Wimal Weerawansa produce a copy of the online version  of  Udayan newspaper published in Jaffna on December 15, 2014.. This is in Tamil language. I’ll tell you the news story in Sinhala This is a statement from JHU MP Mr. Champika Ranawaka. It says “Now time has come to put a stop to the military rule (in Tamil dominated area).  .People in the North and East should have their own right to decide whom they should support.( Self Determination in TNA words) We should not try to influence the Tamil people. There is a presidential race. But who should come to power should be decided by the people. In addition, further militarization, military expansion has already commenced. They have started sending intelligence officers to opposition meetings and press conferences. This is the last chance for people to regain good governance and democracy. Do not miss this opportunity.  “The most important thing is the sheer pop up of militarization, and the military expansionism has already commenced,” said the statement that Ranawaka has made.

Also on December 15, 2014 the Sunday Virakesari, has published his same statement with a caption . We will take last decision on military control of the government ( indirectly saying military presence in TNA words), not to miss the last chance” -JHU secretary Champika Ranawaka. Mahinda Rajapaksa regime is moving towards a military-controlled government. Do not hesitate to take the last decision on a government without military presence” Ranawaka said.

People in the North and East should have their own choice even whether to cast their vote or not. They should not be influenced by others”. From this statement it is obvious what Champika Ranawake is anticipating.

Remove military presence in North and East, stop further militarization, and the military expansionism”- unfortunately these are the words of Champika Ranawaka and so far these accusations were made only by  TNA  and LTTE only. Now JHU has successfully aligned themselves with the TNA and LTTE remnants.

Is it really the same old JHU MP Chanpika Ranawake has made these statements to Tamil newspapers? Or is it possible that these statements have not been made by him, but by Mr. Sampanthan’s Ghost?.

It is evident that while Mr. Ranawaka is hiding these facts from majority Sinhala people, behind their back, he is making these statements to Tamil newspapers as obligatory conditions for the inconspicuous “one of the Mega Deal with TNA”?.  Just think about this intelligently

So this is how it was FALSELY interpreted.

Military control of the govt does not mean military presence in the north.

  2. NeelaMahaYoda Says:

When you talk about Military control of the govt it is military presence in the north. That how they cunningly manipulate words to give different meaning to Tamil speaking people.

But Champika has never uttered a single word on military control to Sinhala people either in English or in Sinhala. You can’t whitewash the guilty.

Regarding Champika’s well publicised book on foreign loans, he has produced whole pack of deceits and deceptions.
He does not understand even the very basics of economics. He is just a professional drop out who participated in the JHU up rising initially and then betrayed all his fellow members to save his own skin. I am not surprised when he betrays the Sinhala Buddhist for a hand full of dollars.

  3. Susantha Wijesinghe Says:

LORENZO ! Champika is addressing the Notherners. So he says, take the last decesion a government without Military presence. He is talking to people of the North. IT IS NOT FALSELY INTERPRETED.

  4. SA Kumar Says:

We will take last decision on military control of the government -We need free (no cost to us) Sinhala military to stop indian army to entry into NP (Saiva TE) & EP (Muslim TE).

So We-Tamils need Lankan Army to stay for ever .

This is a red herring – the issue is not interest rates, the issue is WHO is putting up the multi-BILLION dollars needed to develop Sri Lanka whether they be loans or grants? It’s CHINA, not the US, not the UK, and not India. Rolling back Chinese investment in Sri Lanka is therefore a recipe for disaster if you are interested in economic development of the country, as NO other country in the world is willing or able to replace these development dollars if China is pushed out.

Ranil Wickramasinghe said today he is going to cancel the 1.5 BILLION dollar Colombo Port City project – the largest port development project of its kind in the world – if Maithripala is elected as president. First, how could Ranil as an UN-ELECTED person have the power to cancel this deal? And, second, WHICH COUNTRY is going to put up the multi-Billion development dollars to do a project of this magnitude if China is forced out? The answer is NO COUNTRY! The US has never funded a project of this size anywhere in the world – including in America. The EU has never funded a project of this size. And India has never funded a project of this size and doesn’t have ANY ports with this sort of modern development.

So the obvious conclusion is Ranil/Chandrika/Maithripala are simply doing the bidding of the United States in their failed US China Containment Policy (China just passed the US as the largest economy in the world), to the detriment of most Sri Lankans who would gain the most (jobs, businesses, infrastructure, etc.) from such large scale development in the country.

Ranil/Chandrika/Maithripala should be wearing a big sign on their forehead: WE WORK FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA NOT THE PEOPLE OF SRI LANKA.

Ranil Wickramasinghe, who has been promised the Prime Ministership after abolishing the executive presidency, was described as a staunch US ally according to Wikileaks cables from the US Embassy in Colombo.

“Since coming to power in late 2001, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has taken steps to steer Sri Lankan foreign policy closer to the U.S. Wickremesinghe’s pro-U.S. views have been long-standing and are in part a function of family connections. His uncle, J.R. Jayewardene, for example, was Sri Lanka’s president from the late 1970s through the late 1980s, and maintained very close links with the U.S.” the US Embassy Colombo informed Washington.

The cable continues, “Moreover, Wickremesinghe, who comes from a very wealthy business family, is a strong advocate of free enterprise and strongly opposed to the disastrous socialist policies of former governments. Wickremesinghe is also surprisingly knowledgeable about U.S. history and politics; he is an avid reader about the American Civil War, U.S. military history, and U.S. legislation. The prime minister’s pro-U.S. views also emerge out of his political calculus that Sri Lanka needs the support of the international community, especially the U.S., to constrain the Tamil Tigers. With the peace process his government’s number one priority bar none, the prime minister has worked hard to secure U.S. support for his efforts in this area from very early on in his tenure.”

The above leaked cable is from the WikiLeak database. The cable is classified as “CONFIDENTIAL” Analysis the Sri Lanka’s Foreign Policy under Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. The cable written on May 29, 2003 by the US Ambassador to Colombo E. Ashley Wills.

If the United States has identified Ranil Wickrarmasinghe as early as 2003 as someone who can be counted on to promote US interests in Sri Lanka, it is a good bet they are backing his opposition candidate – Maithripala Sirisena – and want to see REGIME CHANGE by toppling the more China-friendly Rajapaksa.

    Vimutti
Champika Runawaka is behaving like a bull in a china shop these days. In a recent election meeting held at Avisawella, he pledged that Sirisena government will abolish petrol and diesel tax and reduce petrol price by Rs 52/- per litre and diesel by Rs17/- per litre. What is Sirisena’s Government? If it is supported by UNP and other opposition parties, have they agreed to this proposal? And at least worked out alternate proposal to balance the loss revenue due to abolition of fuel tax?

We all know that both Champika Ranawake and Maithipala Sirisena are Marxists. Sirisena might have better understanding on Marxism and Leninsm as he has attended Trade Union training course and obtained a diploma in political science in Moscow in 1980.

Here is a clear conflict of ideologies between Champika/Sirisena’s Marxists against well-established UNP capitalist ideologies. If you abolish fuel tax, definitely, then they will have to reduce additional spending on education and other social benefits and also cutdown all mega development project.

If so, the country will move back another 20 years.

  7. Sooriarachi Says:

I was wondering why the JHU was not pushing for the rights of the Sinhalese families who were evicted from the North to regain their land given to Tiger families. This possibility of JHU being influenced by the TNA in some strange manner could be the reason.
Thank lord at least some JHU members like Gamanpila realised the folly and returned to support the current President, not because they think the Govt is not corrupt, but in the greater interest of the country to prevent LTTE sympathisers coming onto power and reversing all the hard earned gains of recent times. The proof of Sirisena’s dealings would be confirmed if he and/or his family gets Green Cards to settle down in the USA.
