The President was speaking at the launch of Mahinda Chinthana Lova Dinana Maga (Path to Global Triumph), the United People’s Freedom Alliance Election manifesto for the upcoming Presidential Election.

He said he saved the country from these corrupt elements and this history cannot be hidden from the country.

President Rajapaksa said good governance will never survive in a country which is hit by terrorism.

The President added that he restored good governance and democracy by eliminating terrorism from the country.

President Rajapaksa said he is facing a barrage of charges concerning family bandyism.

He added that he was from a family of politicians when he contested the 2005 Presidential election.

The President said they did not earn money from politics. We did a greater service for the development of the country,” he said.

President Rajapaksa said external forces conspiring to divide this nation always connive with treacherous elements within the country.

The President said he will focus on constitutional reforms for which inputs of the Maha Sangha, religious leaders, people’s representatives and civil society leaders will be obtained.

I will make a commitment to ensure the participation of the Maha Sangha, religious leaders, people’s representatives, intellectuals, civil society leaders and members of Trade Unions for the task of constitutional reform,” he said.

The President insisted that his next task is to have major industrial development generating 100,000 employment opportunities a year.

Our next phase is to have major industrial development on this foundation of success that will enable an economy that will generate employment for 100,000 per year. In the recent budget, the government provided opportunities for 150,000 Advanced Level qualified youths to obtain state employment to strengthen public service,” he added.

The President added that this third stage of Mahinda Chinthanaya seeks to raise the standing of the nation to that among developed countries.

He said the government led by him has the strength to achieve and make Sri Lanka secure for the future generation.

The third term of my presidency will be focused on building the country for a new generation and priority will be given to strengthen the Rule of Law eradicating corruption and fraud through institutional structures to achieve this goal. I will be committed to further strengthening and widening national unity to ensure that all communities including Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim and Burgher obtain the benefits of development and good governance,” the President said.

The President said the government and the Security Forces which succeded in anihilating 30 years of terrorism from the country have to face the allegations of war crimes.

When we brought the country under a massive development drive in the aftermath of terrorism, corruption allegations are leveled against us,” he said.

The President recollected how papers run by feudal overlords (Hamus) leveled various corruption charges against Anagarika Dharmapala, an exemplary leader the country produced in the 20th century.

The attack on Buddhist leader Anagarika Dharmapala was so severe that he was compelled to leave the country,” the President said.

He said late SLFP stalwart T.B. Illangaratne who rendered a greater service to the public by establishing a number of state ventures such as the People’s Bank also faced a gamut of corruption charges.

The entire country knows how he spent his last days,” he said.

The President added that those working for the country and those who love their motherland very much have to face this type of charges.

President Rajapaksa said the government led by him has proved that election manifestos are not a policy document that can be forgotten within a few months, through the Mahinda Chinthanaya policy framework.

We say what we do and we do what we say,” he stressed.

President Rajapaksa said he gave a promise to the people through the Mahinda Chinthanaya to bring peace with dignity to the country and he succeeded in keeping that promise. The people in the country who became the refugees of their own country were given peace with dignity as promised through the Mahinda Chinthanaya in 2005, he said. President Rajapaksa said he was committed towards the development of the entire country while protecting the hard won peace through the Mahinda Chinthana Idiridekma in 2010.

He said the government led by him ensured the development of all sectors and per capita income was also increased from US$1,200 in 2005 to US$4,000.

Thousands of acres of paddy lands were brought under cultivation,” he added. The President added that the environment has been created in the country where people of all communities can travel freely.

Ninety seven percent of households in the country are receiving electricity. No party is able to give promises that it would develop rural infrastructure, remove the gap in the educational sector as we have been successful in meeting these requirements”.

The President added that the government took bold decisions to mould the ethics and moral values of the citizens and new laws were introduced prohibiting smoking or consuming liquor in public places.We ended the era of liquor and cigarette advertisements,” he said.

President Rajapaksa added that his hands are clean as he has not issued a single casino license nor a bar license.

I am proud to say that I have not issued a single casino or bar license though falsehood is being propagated as truth today,” he said.

He said that he will never allow the mothers in the country to be in fear of death.

I will never allow the children and the people in any part of the country to be held in refugee camps,” he said.

The President added that the government increased the strength of the public service which was to be pruned to 2000,000.

He said that the country does not want an imported system with an objective of privatising national assets. What they are striving to do is to privatise the national assets.”

President Rajapaksa stressed that he cannot allow this country to be another Syria, Libya or Iraq.
