If Mahinda Rajapakse wants to return he must first agree to these demands
Posted on February 26th, 2015

New Focus Today

There is a clarion call for the former President to return to politics and contest as Prime Ministerial candidate. The call comes with a growing number of people realizing that the Presidential election has turned Sri Lanka into a rogue state with the elected President turned into a puppet and a puppet now running the show on behalf of the West and reversing all that Sri Lanka has gained.

While we are appalled at the manner RW and UNP gang have hijacked governance we cannot forget that MR’s faults contributed to the electoral regime change that took place.

We cannot have MR return to power without acknowledging his mistakes and agreeing to not commit the same if elected again to power. Otherwise it is best for Sri Lanka to hunt for another man.

Therefore MR must make a public commitment of assurance to the people

  1. No Basil, No Namal, No Yoshitha, No Rohitha and No Shiranthini or her family members will be given any role or allowed to bully MPs and other public officials and members of the armed forces thinking they belong to the royal family.
  1. No cronies and characters like Mervyn, Duminda, Sajin etc
  1. Declaring Buddhism as state religion and Buddhist principles (that no one can object to on account of the compassionate nature to man and animal) in governance – following the dasa raja dharma concept that was followed by rulers that built the Sinhala civilization of Sri Lanka.
  1. No political party or representative pushing ethnic-based politics to be given cabinet level portfolios
  1. Abolish 13a, remove PC system, introduce electoral system to deny minority parties becoming king makers using ethnic line.

  1. Mr. Bernard Wijeyasingha Says:

One more issue. REVOKE TAMIL AS A SECOND OFFICIAL LANGUAGE. ENSURE THAT SINGHALESE IS TAUGHT TO ALL. ENGLISH WILL HAVE TO CONTINUE FOR IT IS THE LINGUA FRANCA OF INTERNATIONAL COMMERCE AND HAS PLAYED A GREATER ROLE IN THE FORMATION OF MODERN DAY SRI LANKA. TAMIL HAS NOT.

  2. Lorenzo Says:

    WOW! BEST news since 2009.

AT LAST the INTELLIGENT people have come to realize 13 amendment is their WORST ENEMY.

Very good. When I said this BEFORE the election people bashed me. Never mind. I’m happy one by one people come to realize this TRUTH.

But LESS INTELLIGENT SECTIONS are yet to realize this.

    SCRAP 13 amendment.

MR’s election slogan should be SCRAP 13 amendment and save SL from MASSIVE corruption (443 MPs in PC whereas parliament has only 225!!!) and BLOODY DIVISION leading to war.

    BW,

NO NEED. When 13 amendment is SCRAPPED, Tamil ceases to be an official language automatically.

  3. Independent Says:

People voted for My3 just to get 1 and 2 done first as it was the most urgent and the writer’s listing order proves it is his idea too.
But is it logical to bring back the same man without his family , friends and 60 year old habits ?

Are we proud of ourselves to be so bankrupt and have no guts to find 1 man better than him to lead ?

    THINK

  4. Fran Diaz Says:

The only item that is truuly important is that the 13A must go.

  5. Hiranthe Says:

13A must be at the top of the list!!

All other points raised in the article are important and must be a part of the move.

But I fear My3 will not reduce the EP powers and give to the PM. He is learning and tasting the honey which he will not want to share.

So what is the point in bringing MR to sit as a pupet. Rather wait for 6 years and bring GR as the presidential candidate. Start working on it from now and try and politicize GR.

This is only if My3 do not dilute his power. If he did so, MR for the PM post is the best option.

  6. Sarath W Says:

I think no 5 should be at the top of the list.

No 4 should be ethnic or religious based parties should be banned.

No 6 No such thing as Tamil or Muslim home land.

  7. SA Kumar Says:

all ok please leave condition 1 No Basil, No Namal, No Yoshitha, No Rohitha and No Shiranthin……..
    otherwise whats point in politic

you modaya He completed job to liberty His Demila sakotharayas from Vani rule.
let him enjoy his retaiment for rest his life as he is 70 years old king now!

  8. ranjit Says:

As a Sinhala Buddhist citizen of this great land I fully agree with every word of the above article. I think it’s really a good one and a genuine request for Mahinda to come back to politics as the public demand.

If you call him a King or a hero he deserves both because he had guts more than any other yankee backed politicians in this blessed land to destroy LTTE terrorism or the destroyer Velupillai Prabakaran. He should come back alone and save our land from these western and Indian backed Govt of thieves before they destroy our freedom and happiness. Long live Mahinda only leader we can trust.

  9. Nimal Says:

All the above concerns were brought to the notice using the closest connections to him but fell on deaf ears and it was likes of us who suffered the abuse of the Badulla people and recently in Kandy where his presence on the 1st of Jan, the shops were forced to close by the cops and all transport was hijacked where the employee couldn’t get to their jobs. He was responsible for his demise.

  10. Susantha Wijesinghe Says:

Mr. BW, Yes fully agree that Tamil language should be revoked as a second official language. The Government should STOP FORCING TAMIL LANGUAGE DOWN THE THROATS OF SINHALA CHILDREN. It must be stopped forthwith. This was done to appease the Tamils, and burden the Sinhalese CHILDREN. Tamil language is not essential for a 70% Sinhala population, and it should not have been made ** MANDATORY** for the Sinhalese Children and THE GOVERNMENT SERVANTS, whose promotions depend on a ‘ Tamil Pass’.

  11. SA Kumar Says:

    Susantha Wijesinghe
it should not have been made ** MANDATORY** for the Sinhalese Children – agreed
but Sinhala should be mandatory ( not joking) to Tamil at least facility available in all Tamil government school to learn than United mother Lanka become Unitary Lanka in long team ( Tamil will die itself slowly – Thamil mellach Saakom) as We all know We-Tamil take anything free even We drink polidol if free!!!

My Sinhala brothers you know how many government school have Sinhala language teachers in NPC ? NON!
VP & CO gone for long time so can recruit any teachers from division 53,56,58 etc….

  12. Mr. Bernard Wijeyasingha Says:

    Lorenzo:
You state: “NO NEED. When 13 amendment is SCRAPPED, Tamil ceases to be an official language automatically.”

    YOU ARE WRONG

THE 13TH AMENDMENT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE OFFICIAL STATUS GIVEN TO TAMIL ACROSS THE LAND OF SRI LANKA
THE 13TH AMENDMENT DEALS WITH PROVINCIAL POWERS
MAKING TAMIL EQUAL TO SINGHALESE ACROSS THE LAND REMAINS. IT WAS MADE AN OFFICIAL LANGUAGE OF SRI LANKA WITHOUT THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE 13TH AMENDMENT.

YOU KNOW QUITE WELL THE TWO ISSUES ARE NOT RELATED. TAMIL HAS TO BE REVOKED OR IT IS ONE WAY THE TAMILS ARE GAINING GROUND ACROSS THE ENTIRE NATION.

  13. Mr. Bernard Wijeyasingha Says:

    Susantha

Thank you. Tamil is being imposed, Tamil majority areas in Sri Lanka are called “Tamil Homelands”. Tamil politicians such as the Tamil National Alliance goes to Chennai and New Delhi to consult on Domestic Sri Lankan issues. that is never done by any other party.

    while that is going on

Singhalese are being beaten up in Tamil Nadu. Jayalalithaa and Chennai politicians have banned Singhalese diplomatic mission in Tamil Nadu and have effectively made that an issue with New Delhi across India.
This must be also addressed how the Tamils are taking over Sri Lanka. Indian Tamil fishermen brazenly enter Sri Lankan waters to claim fish harvests of Sri Lanka. THAT IS POACHING ON A MASSIVE SCALE.

TAMILS ARE RAPIDLY IMPOSING THEIR CULTURE, RELIGION AND LANGUAGE ON THE SINGHALESE AFTER FAILING TO GET ELAM. THEY NOW WANT ALL OF SRI LANKA.

  14. Mr. Bernard Wijeyasingha Says:

    SA Kumar
Tamil will always remain the language of the Tamil People. English has not died out even though it is not an official language in Sri Lanka and it is NOT the mother tongue of either Singhalese or Tamils. Tamil is a language that is in transitions. It can continue as it did for so many centuries to be a provincial part of the Singhalese culture of Sri Lanka while it a dominant part of the Dravidian states of Peninsula India.

BUT TO MAKE THAT PROVINCIAL LANGUAGE THE LINGUA FRANCA OF SRI LANKA ALONG WITH SINGHALESE WHILE NOT DOING THE SAME IN ANY OTHER DRAVIDIAN STATE IN INDIA IS IMPOSING TAMIL ON THE MAJORITY OF SRI LANKA.

TAMIL DOES NOT PLAY A ROLE IN COMMERCE OR POLITICS THE WAY ENGLISH DOES. YET IT NOW SUPERSEDES ENGLISH TO STAND EQUAL TO SINGHALESE IN SRI LANKA WHILE EFFECTIVELY BARRING IT IN TAMIL NADU.

  15. Fran Diaz Says:

Tamil People must know by now that imposing their culture , language etc. on Sri Lanka means that their nasty Caste System will also come along, sooner than later !

  16. Mr. Bernard Wijeyasingha Says:

Fran Diaz; The Hindu Tamil caste system has flourished under the Democratic poliicies of Sri lanka

you have given another reason why the policies of Colombo must fall in line with that of Buddhism. Only then can such barbarous practices be eliminated. Too much latitude has been given to minorities under the guise of Democracy.

It was under many governments proclaiming a western style Democracy (which really never fully exist in most Western nations today and Singapore is more a Fascist run state than a Democracy) where the separatist movement of the Tamil Tigers took root. the ideals of Democracy is twisted by those with vested interests to oust Rajapakse and seize power.

  17. Mr. Bernard Wijeyasingha Says:

SA Kumar: you stated something that has vexed me but I did not fully answer to that. this is for you and for the rest:

( Tamil will die itself slowly – Thamil mellach Saakom) “TAMIL WILL DIE ITSELF SLOWLY”. Not a single concern by Kumar of SINGHALESE DYING. NOT A WORD FROM THE WORLD MEDIA OF THE NUMBER OF SINGHALESE KILLED IN THE WAR, THE GENOCIDE ON SINGHALESE INCLUDING SINGHALESE BUDDHIST PRIESTS. NONE. NOT A WORD OF THE ETHNIC CLEANSING OF SINGHALESE FROM TAMIL DOMINATED AREAS.

KUMAR IS ONLY CONCERNED ABOUT TAMIL IN SRI LANKA.. AND THAT IS FAR FROM “DYING” IT IS A MAJOR LANGUAGE OF INDIA, AN INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGE, AND A RECOGNIZED AS A CLASSICAL LANGUAGE ON PAR WITH SANSKRIT IN INDIA.

THE COMPLETE LACK OF ANY EMPATHY THAT THE SINGHALESE LANGUAGE, CULTURE, RELIGION AND PEOPLE ARE NOW FIGHTING FOR A MAJORITY REPRESENTATION IN THE ONLY LAND ON EARTH THEY CAN EVEN CALL HOME.. IS NOT EVEN AN ISSUE WITH KUMAR OR FOR THAT MATTER THE WORLD MEDIA.

I AM NOW USING THE CORRECT WORD “SINGHALESE” FOR IT WAS BORN FROM PRINCE VIJAYA (SINGHA) THEN “SINHALESE” AS IT WAS SPELLED IN THE 1970’S AND EARLIER MEANT THAT LANGUAGE HAD A DIRECT CONNECTION TO PRINCE VIJAYA SINGHA (LESE)

  18. Mr. Bernard Wijeyasingha Says:

    One more issue’

the Tamil Nationalist movement is fully represented in Tamil Nadu. it has got international support for a longer period of time than the Singhalese Nationalist movement.

It started in the early 20th century under a man nicknamed Periyar who formed the Justice Party. He wanted “Dravidistan” from the old Madras Presidency. the Capital was to be Madras. and all the Dravidian speaking regions would come under that rule including the Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam speaking people against the Brahmin oriented North Indian Indo Aryans.

In that sense the Tamil National movement is far older, more deeply rooted and has world wide support compared to the Singhalese nationalist movement. Kumar is crying crocodile tears.

  19. Lorenzo Says:

    BW,

    “Lorenzo:
You state: “NO NEED. When 13 amendment is SCRAPPED, Tamil ceases to be an official language automatically.”

    YOU ARE WRONG

THE 13TH AMENDMENT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE OFFICIAL STATUS GIVEN TO TAMIL ACROSS THE LAND OF SRI LANKA
THE 13TH AMENDMENT DEALS WITH PROVINCIAL POWERS”

WRONG. Please read the 13 amendment. Tamil was made an OFFICIAL language by it!!

    Here is the section.

    13 amendment. Point number 2.

“(2) Tamil shall also be an official language”.

  20. Lorenzo Says:

I AGREE Tamil must NOT be an OFFICIAL language.

If Tamil remains an official language SL will be COLONIZED by Tamil Madu people outnumbering locals.

    SCRAP 13 amendment.

  21. Fran Diaz Says:

    Repeat :

Only really important item is that 13-A must go.

    BW,

It isn’t so much the Tamil Caste system that exists in Sri Lanka. It is that Tamil leaders who get into political power in Lanka hob nob with the Colombians and the ex-Colonial powers to KEEP DOWN Tamil people of Jaffna & Upcountry. Example : The PC of the North has used only some 20 plus % of the total monies allocated by the last GoSL. Another point : The CWC did not take up MR’s offer to move Tamil tea pluckers out of the miserable line rooms left behind by the Brits. However, due to D.E.W. Gunasekera’s advice, the MR govt did give ownership of hte line rooms plus 40 perches land to the tea plucker families. The Agency Houses in charge of the Govt owned Tea Estates pilfered the EPF monies of the tea pluckers.

  22. Sooriarachi Says:

Though Mahinda Rajapakse will try to stand up to Western and Indian manipulations against Sri Lanka’s interests, he may not have the required backing without his team headed by Gotabaya Rajapakse, who was the live wire of the previous administration. Nevertheless he will still be a much better leader than any of the current rulers, simply because he has a backbone and loves the country.
Currently there is a huge campaign with false allegations to blacken the names of Mahinda and Gotabaya Rajapakse and I hope the people will not fall for it and instead demand from the present regime to prove such allegations through the courts rather than the media.

  23. Fran Diaz Says:

    Soori,

Not only blacken the name of MR & GR, some folks are trying to blacken Pres Obama’s name too !

So the Rajapakse family is in good company to be in the same slot as the President of the United States of America !
    O tempora ! O moraes !

  24. Fran Diaz Says:

PS: I should explain that I think Pres Obama is the person trying hard to avoid WW III.

  25. Lorenzo Says:

    Fran,

SL Tamil PEOPLE vote for the MOST racist Tamil party.

PEOPLE select their leaders. Not the other way round.

GOOD Tamil leaders NEVER got votes from Tamils!

    e.g. Rajarathnams, Arun Thambimuttu, etc.

  26. SA Kumar Says:

I AM NOW USING THE CORRECT WORD “SINGHALESE” FOR IT WAS BORN FROM PRINCE VIJAYA (SINGHA) THEN “SINHALESE” AS IT WAS SPELLED IN THE 1970’S AND EARLIER MEANT THAT LANGUAGE HAD A DIRECT CONNECTION TO PRINCE VIJAYA SINGHA (LESE)

PRINCE VIJAYA (SINGHA) is kallaththoni ??? please correct me if I am CORRECT ?

Fully implement 13A & 6A over night like in Indian Language states& 16A We can avoid seperation demand forever !!!

EG: If you ask any Indian why do not you go separate from India they say We already have own country TN,Gujarat why we want another country than if you that not your counrty that is your state but India is your country for that they say no TN is our mother land & India is our country
    see their point ???
Hence NPC(Saiva TE) & EPC(Muslim TE) are our mother country & IlankaI is our Country !!!

you got it ? no chance .

  27. nilwala Says:

The more the RW/UNP bandwagon tries to tarnish the name of Mahinda and Gotabhaya Rajapakse, the more support they will receive from the people of this country who have been fooled by the My3 Yahapalanaya but will not be fooled all of the time.
Already Colombo is seeing garbage on the streets….just give it a little more time until the 100days are over!!

  28. Mr. Bernard Wijeyasingha Says:

Lorenzo: then could you explain why Tamil was made an official language WITHOUT fully implementing amendment 13? Tamil was made an official language while Rajapakse withheld the key issues of amendment 13 and that is the transfer of land and police powers to the provinces. If he can do that then the removal of amendment 13 in any way may not assure the removal of Tamil as an official language in par with Singhalese

SA Kumar: I changed the spelling of “Singhalese” when I googled “Bengal ancient history” on the Wikipedia and read the complete name of Prince Vijaya and how the Singhalese language developed. His name was Vijaya Singha” out of which the Singha “lese” language eventually formed. the old spelling of Singhalese is correct. That is why the change to what it was.

  29. Lorenzo Says:

    BW,

“Lorenzo: then could you explain why Tamil was made an official language WITHOUT fully implementing amendment 13?”

13 amendment made Tamil an official language.

    13 amendment had 2 objectives.

    1. to make Tamil and official language

    2. to create PCs.

13 amendment was passed in 1987. Tamil was immediately made an official language in 1987 even before PCs came into existence. This was why MANY Tamils started to come to Colombo AFTER 1987. They could work with the govt. in TAMIL ONLY after 1987. We too permanently settled down in Colombo from Jaffna (a few years) AFTER 1987. Hindu college, Hindu ladies college, etc. NEED NOT teach Sinhala (until then a Tamil had to know some Sinhala to transact with the govt.). They could teach Tamil and English ONLY after 1987 because a Tamil in Colombo by law NEED NOT know Sinhala after 1987 when Tamil became an official language.

PCs came into existence in 1988. A year later.

Although land and police powers were NOT given other powers were given since 1988 to provinces!!

    Please read the 13 amendment.
