Rajapaksa blames Americans, Norwegians, Europeans and India for defeat

Former Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has blamed India, the US and European countries for his humiliating defeat in the January election.
“It was very open, Americans, the Norwegians, Europeans were openly working against me. And RAW (India’s Research Analysis Wing),” Rajapaksa told the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post in an interview.
“Both the US and India openly used their embassies to bring me down,” Rajapaksa said ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s maiden visit to the country.
A media report from Colombo soon after Rajapaksa’s defeat in the January 8 election had said that a RAW official was instrumental in uniting rival political parties – the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and the United National Party (UNP) – against him during the polls.
According to the report, the unnamed official was also asked to leave the country.
India had rejected the report saying that all the normal tenure of an Indian diplomat in Sri lanka is three years and all officials who have been transferred during last year have completed that.
“It’s a normal transfer,” Ministry of External Affairs Spokesman had said.
Rajapaksa, who was defeated by his ex-aide Maithripala Sirisena, at that time had said that he did not know all the facts.
In his interview to the Post yesterday Rajapaksa said “I asked the Indians, ‘Why are you doing this? It’s an open secret what you are doing’. I had assured them that I would never allow the Sri Lankan soil to be used against any friendly country, but they had other ideas,” he said.
He also defended Chinese infrastructure projects which were started in the country during his regime.
Asked if the docking of two Chinese submarines in Sri Lanka last year had raised India’s hackles, Rajapaksa said: “whenever Chinese submarines come to this part of the world, they always inform India.
“The Chinese president was here, so the subs were here.
Find out how many Indian submarines and warships came to our waters when the Indian prime minister came for the SAARC South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) summit [in 2008],” he said.
During a visit to Beijing last month, Sri Lanka’s new Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera said the docking of a Chinese submarine at Colombo harbour coincided with the visit of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to the Sri Lankan capital and the new government will not allow foreign submarines to use the Island’s ports.
Rajapaksa also told the Post that Lanka’s new government is being unfair to China by unnecessarily dragging it into domestic politics.
“They should be thankful to China for the help they extended; instead these people are treating China like a criminal,” he said.

I do not blame former President Mahinda Rajapakse if he sounds bitter about various external powers. I agree with what he says. Sri Lanka leader, MR, treated all according to the Dharma, as cordially as possible, the Tamil people included. He saved them from the LTTE. The past GoSL did a wonderful job considering the odds against them. The worst treatment came from Britain, the last Colonial power, with other colonists in tow. They are the great ‘divide & rule’ people.
Does anyone know the outcome for Sri Lanka post Sirisena visit to Britain, apart from helping Sri Lanka with the “drug menace via the high seas” ? Is it a case of ‘Panina Rilawunta inimung bandinawa’ – we hope not.

But on the other hand Mahinda himself is totally responsible for the mess up caused during campaign due to;
1. Failure to understand the major allegations against him which were corruption and nepotism
2. Failure to understand the effectiveness of the modern electronic propaganda based on internet and face book
3. Handing over Presidential election campaign exclusively to Basil and Namal
4. Campaign should have been taken aggressively offensive and convincingly defensive approach rather than taking a mild approach based on economic performance and the war victory

The evidence for me was Sirisena’s visit to London. David Cameron made sure there were no mobs of Tamils in London holding placards with LITE on them as in the visit when Rajapakse went to London. the stark difference shows the blatant support of these powers to oust Rajapakse and put in the Sirisena Coalition.

The Indian imperialists (India) were ready to correct its mistake in 2005 when it backed Mahinda Rajapaksa over Ranil Wickramasinge. Indian imperialists advised Indian block vote in the island to abstain from voting. The reason for the preference was Indian imperialists thought it will be easier to negotiate with Mahinda an unknown matter for India. Unfortunately for India, Mahinda did not follow Indian directions as former Sri Lankan leaders did since 1956. In 2010 India enrolled General Sarath Fonseka as a presidential candidate against Mahinda and failed. So behind the scene as Indian imperialist always do they were planning for years and got former governor Chandrika to do the job and succeeded with doing a repeat of what India did with her father SWRD 1951. Not only Rajapaksa but VP also blaming those countries from the right start for his defeat. It is undeniable fact that LTTE was overpowered because of USA and India. If those 10 Ships were not been destroyed (Thanks for the USA intelligence) in the mid high seas there were no chance of winning this war. According to the Defence Secretary of USA and SL former Defence Secretary has once acknowledged too. Now what needs to done is Lets start all over again. Mahinda should collaborate with VP or his rep(if he is not in alive) and work together as he did in 2010 and also R Premadasa did in his era. but this time must work together genuinely. Todays news in the Hindu Daily Digest is that Sirisena is seekint Modi’s assistance in “uncovering” the “massive corruption” of Rajapakse. Soon, very soon there will an inquiry as to how and why Sirisena and Wickremeingha were found dead. Is it an accident or was it an assassination?

You misunderstand my intent. Since India is our closest neighbor, it augurs well for Lanka to have some ‘give & take’ with India. I totally agree with you that Lanka has to use more clout at the bargaining table not only with India but with all other nations Lanka deals with economically and otherwise. To date, others ‘take’ and Lanka ‘gives in’.

A perceived guilt is pasted on Lanka re the Tamils of Lanka – this point of view being nurtured constantly by the Tamil Diaspora and kept alive by western media and churches. Any Govt. of Lanka need not feel guilty about Tamils of Lanka at all. All games against the ordinary Hindu Tamil are conceived by Tamil leaders who are games players playing with the west and Tamil Nadu, drawing in the west and Delhi govt as well. The west, Britain in particular, is using this to their own advantage.
Btw, Scotland has started growing TEA there, although in small quantity – and it costs some 10 Pds St per pot ! Hallelujah ! British self sufficiency by any means the rest of the world is safer.

Also let us bear in mind that it was the Congress Party of India, during the Cold War times, that trained the LTTE in Tamil Nadu. It was not the Modi Govt that did that.
India trained the LTTE to counter the Communist JVP.
The JVP was/is composed of Sinhala/Buddhist villagers mostly. It is the JVP youth who were massacred by then govts of Lanka. The JVP youth have suffered immensely. It is they, however difficult, who must be upgraded through discipline and job oriented education. MR was doing that through the Army before the new illegal govt came in.
Mr Modi, Lanka will be ever grateful to you if you take back all the Tamil illegal migrants in Lanka. Please put them all to work in the Smart Cities you have in mind for Tamil Nadu area. Also, please do keep the Tamils in so called Refugee Camps in Tamil Nadu and put them to work in the Smart Cities too.

India and USA found a weak leader to defeat Rajapakse with the help of minority votes, including the Indian Tamils in the hill country, obviously manipulated by the Indian RAW. They also created the BBS to antagonise unsuspecting Muslims, who too got sucked in and voted against Rajapakse. Before these conspiracies comes to light and before the people discover the new leaders gave bogus promises, and before the President’s powers are reduced, there is a strong push by India and the West to get this weak President to implement the Indian forced 13 A and then have early elections, whilst the people are still in a confused state. Hopefully, Sirisena might wake up realising he is being taken for a sucker and decide not to cave in to India’s wishes.

All these countries & organisations mentioned below owe Lanka an apology as well compensation for immense damage done to the country and the People of Lanka for two centuries in time :
1. Because of British Colonisation of Lanka and bringing over a million Tamil people to Lanka – certainly Britain owes Lanka an apology and compensation. There is a list of atrocities committed by the British when they colonised Lanka, including the Uva Wellassa massacres. Also, sending liquor to the last King of Kandy, Sri Wickrema Rajasingha, and the King in drunken rages ordered the killing of his powerful Dissawas, which in turn brought his downfall.
2. The Portuguese also owe at least an apology for ransacking ancient sites of Buddhist education in the South of Lanka and using the stones from those buildings to build their Forts. Also, for forced conversions and favors to those converted. Introduction of liquor into the country.

I do agree with Soori that the People of Lanka are confused, and sooner we have proper elections (not rigged as last time) the better for all in Lanka. A strong and properly functioning Government that earns the respect of the entire world a must. At present the new illegal govt seems like a weird circus/pirate performance, to do some kind of horror show and plunder …. ? All that we value in life seems upside down.

All the viewpoints about the whys and wherefores leading to the Rajapaksa defeat seem plausible in a very abstract sense only.All the external sources which contributed towards it were very real but the bottom line is that it was the general voting public that really defeated Prez MR. The masses who were disgruntled and frustrated about their sufferings at consumer level, the patronage of the Rajapaksa clan who at times overstepped metes and bounds towards maintaining the equilibrium of the Sinhala nation as they overlooked many crying issues relative to the needs of the people regardless of the implications and the gross neglect involved where the Rajapaksa clan despite the vast beneficial changes to the countru in many perspectives also made huge mistakes which angered the voting public.Now the monsters of the UNP and all the deadbeat politicos of the coalition who have no right to govern have been let loose and are on a virtual rampage~ hopefully for a brief sojourn only until MR learns quickly from his mistakes and makes a comeback through rweaching out to the very people who somewhat misguidedly defeated him and win their hearts. It was their vote that brought the Rajapaksa regime down rather than the influences of America, Norway, Europe and India if one looks at it realistically and a lame excuse as the MR Administration previously was rock solid and indefatigable from many perspectives but in the end became very fallible based on idealogies that were unacceptable to the people of Sri Lanka as they indicated autocracy and irresponsibility!It was a fall from grace and popularity that was unprecedented in the history of Sri Lanka politics given the adulation he had in the aftermath of the LTTE defeat and the love and respect he enjoyed then! He now has a lot of soul searching and bridge building between himself and the Sinhala Nation to accomplish.

I would like to disagree with you about British bringing drinks to Kandy. Even before their times there were terrible indulgences by our rulers of the past.It was everywhere in the world that included England.
England came out of their generations old sufferings and out of pity people like John O,doyle,a philanthropist wanted the same good life for our people who were suffering just like their people suffered under their own chieftains and church. Kandyan convention was an arrangement to rid of one tyrant by the others wanted his place.
This exactly the misinformation that the diaspora is peddling that at the end of our recent conflict that are troops massacred 40,000 people which is not true like the vallasa massacre.These leaders after the King wanted the same style of suppressive rule as the ousted king.
Just think for your self. What did our former rulers ever did for the people? Did they build hospitals,schools,court houses government administrative structure,rail,tea estates etc.
People are also critical of Indian labour that is doing the vital tea plucking though the natives will never do.This goes for the western countries to where the natives will never do some type of work and happily get foreigners to do. Even the 1848 was another attempt by the elite to grab power using a pretext and the country flourished ever since. There were excesses by the colonials but it was corrected and put right by the same people, not out of fear but out of moral obligation to the human race.
I don’t want to be personal but you have a posh name like Diaz and the reason seems obvious that your ancestors identified with people of the colonial type that did good and we are sadly in self denial.
I just can’t understand how people living in the western countries have the stupidity to write silly comments, thus denying our people the same comforts that they are enjoying in the West. They wouldn’t write all this rubbish, if they have a true interest in SL,invest there.
