BODU BAlA SENA – PRESIDENT MAHINDA RAJAPAKSE’S TIMELY REVEALATIONS
Posted on April 25th, 2015

By M D P DISSANAYAKE

Prior to the Presidential Elections, the General Secretary Ven. Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thera  made several attempts to join the Presidential Election campaign of Mr Mahinda Rajapakse.  According to this Buddhist Monk, obtaining 5 million votes for MR through the BBS  would be a easy task.  His calculations were based on the assumptions (a) select 1000 Buddhist Temples supportive of MR  and (b) harness 5000 votes for MR from each of villages attached to the 1000  Temples.   MR was brave enough not to be deceived by this notorious Monk to provide him a platform in his campaign.  MR during his period of Presidency tirelessly worked to bring Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims into one camp of brotherhood.

BBS General Secretary did create several ugly scenes in Aluthgama and Beruwala areas, harrassing the Muslims, pretending to be a supporter of Mr Gotabaya Rajapakse.   MR and GR had to work hard for the damage control whilst Mr Ranil Wickremasinghe and Mrs Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga made use of the opportunity to alienate Muslims from MR.   Mr Rauf Hakeem being the Minister of Justice of President Mahinda Rajapakse’s regime, did join hands with RW and CBK adding further fuel to the fire.   Consequently, MR did lose the battle to win the votes of Muslims.

The recent remarks by President Mahinda Rajapkse about BBS are therefore based on solid foundation.

Many Buddhists feel that being a Buddhist Monk is an attractive method of deceiving the masses.   Two prominent names in this category are none other than Ven. A(Shobitha) and Ven Galabodaatte Gnanasara Thero.  Even there are some ordinary laymen who take a similar path of at least becoming a Buddhist Monk even for a short period, with the intention of portraying himself as a better Buddhist than others.  One such person is none other than Mr Patali Champika Ranawaka, who on 9 May 2011 shaved his Head and observed Dasa Sil for 10 days at the  Sadaham Sevana Viharaya, Gothami Road, Rajagiriya.  The main objective of becoming a temporary Buddhist Monk ( or known as Heeraluwa, after completing Monkhood) to “engage in meditation and observance of Seela  for all their wordly pleasures  and responsibilities, abstaining from committing  any wrongdoing by way of speech or sight”.  Has Patali, (who is a divorced man with 2 daughters), found peace of mind after the 10 days?  These are the Buddhists who insult the Buddhism, using it for their own benefit and pleasure to attract attention.

BBS  and its General Secretary has given its full blessings to Mr Patali Champika Ranawaka.  According to BBS, PaCha Ranawaka is the most suitable person to become “Sinhala Buddhist President” of Sri Lanka.

As MR had no connection with BBS, the BBS is now free to campaign for PaCha Ranawaka to make him the “Sinhala Buddhist Executive Prime Minister “.  Sadhu, Sadhu.

“BBS General Secretary did create several ugly scenes in Aluthgama and Beruwala areas, harrassing the Muslims”

What a big lie ? How can you pretend to protect Sinhala nation by telling such horrible lies ?
Have you not seen how this incident started ?
Shame on you MDP – don’t destroy our country.

  2. asoka2468 Says:

I and several friends of mine knew this from the very inception. Do you guys remember when this monk was going crazy at Col 5? MR and GR SHOULD HAVE PUT THE RABID DOG IN IN THE KENNEL AT THAT POINT!

  3. Lorenzo Says:

    Now it is TOO LATE.

SOME BBS work were EXCESSIVE. MR should have ARESTED violent BBS mobs and punished. Why didn’t he do it?

Because Charm-paka told him NOT to touch the BBS! What a lame excuse!!
Dumbinda Silva told the then govt. NOT to touch Wele Suda so he was free to leave the country.

Had MR done the RIGHT THING, none of this would have happened.

At least now the MR camp should ACCEPT the WRONGS and CORRECT them. If they say they were RIGHT (when in reality they were wrong) don’t expect voters to change. When we pointed out MR’s wrongs we were attacked. Had they listened to us, MR is STILL IN POWER.

You don’t have to ask anyone’s opinion to do the RIGHT thing.

Anyway Muslims will not vote for a Rajapaksha ever again just like Tamils.

  4. Independent Says:

    Agree with Lorenzo. 100%.
Even now there in no proper acknowledgment. Two months ago BR was the culprit. Now he is good, some unmentioned “horu” we’re not punished that is the ONLY mistake.

  5. Christie Says:

Namaste: The question in any sort of politics is where does the finance come from and what is the financiers’ hidden agenda. Sobithaya, Gnasaraya and Rathanaya the shaven headed men in yellow robes are financed by Indian Imperialists’ money. The Sinhala Muslims were making foray in to the economy of the country thanks to the money from the Middle East. The Indian Empire is concerned about the loss of its economic supremacy in the Island Nation. Remember how Indian Imperialists did the same to emerging Sinhala businesses by Indian Governor SWRD when he nationalized them. Jai Hind

  6. nilwala Says:

The BBS should learn a lesson from the way President Sirisena is the front man for the UK/US/West political coup operation in Sri Lanka. The right demeanor of humility and simplicity with soft talk is needed as a front for Buddhism, if is to make its point. Bhikkhu Gnanasara means well and makes reasoned arguments when not in street protest mode, but in this age of VIDEO-dominated media, he is the wrong person to present the case.

  7. AnuD Says:

That is a good idea. Champika Ranawaka the executive prime minister. Maithripala Sirisena the president.

  8. ranjit Says:

MR should take the full responsibility for his own defeat not anyone else. He had everything to take our country in the right direction as a cleanest law abiding country but he didn’t take that challenge. He had the 2/3 majority,He had the support of the people,Buddhist Monks, some powerful countries in the world very friendly to him and to the whole nation,Children of all ages and some powerful organizations inside the country and abroad so on but he chose a different path ignoring the good and protecting the bad & the ugly.

When he had the power he would have removed 13 from the books. He would have sacked bad apples from his cabinet like Mervin,D.M.Jayaratne,Duminda,Vass and some who had connections with drug lords, murderers etc. He would have listened to Sinhala demands more than demands of the other small communities. He should have shown more and more of the brutality of LTTE to the outside world and demanded compensation to Sinhalese who were murdered by LTTE terrorists during the war. We suffered more than them and nobody is talking about the southerners or the massacres in thousands they did during the war. Who was responsible for Arantalawa,Anuradhapura,Kandy etc massacres and why no inquiry for those who did those crimes? Ranil/Chandrika should be sent to prison for crimes against humanity not MR who saved our Motherland from evil Prabakaran and his gang.

MR had mistakes but now he has realized it so let’s forget everything and help him to start new with a new vision to the country. Ranil/Chandrika/MY3 cannot be trusted. They sold the country once and they will do it again before long so we all must rally round MR who is the most suitable person to lead our country today and help him to take us forward in a good way with a new set of people who really loves the Motherland.

  9. Christie Says:

Namaste: Yes we cannot see what India is up to . I am not saying West is innocent, they are a bad lot. But Indians are the worst. How many of you who comment would like to go and live in India. There are some who live in the West and hate them and suck to India. Jai hind

  10. Metteyya_Brahmana Says:

MR needs to keep a ‘public’ distance from BBS. MR gains about the same number of Buddhist votes with or without BBS, but LOSES 25-40% of the Muslim vote by being associated with BBS. In a close election that may add up to a defeat if 500,000-700,000 Muslims swing to Ranil.

MR’s main problem, however, is not Muslims, it is getting back the 1-2 million or so Buddhist voters from the January election who are more concerned with corruption than alienating Muslims. These are the Buddhist voters Ranil targeted by putting Maithripala out front because he knew they would not vote for the Western-oriented UNP if he or anyone else from the UNP had their name on the ballot. Throwing Basil under the bus may be required to redeem MR on the corruption issue, as well as ‘barring for life’ from government anyone found guilty of corruption on his watch.

MR’s election strategy should be (1) Show Genuine Reform on Corruption Issue, (2) Highlight Development Success vs. Development Failure of Ranil and UNP, (3) Focus on Vision for Future Economic Success, especially becoming an Offshore Manufacturing Center of China (requires robust infrastructure development of roads, bridges, airports, ports) and leveraging the large amount of shipping traffic through Sri Lanka (Port City, Shipping Repair, and Ship Building), and (4) Articulate Robust Reconciliation Plan that integrates North and East with the rest of the country (massive resettlement and re-development of North and East to reflect nation-wide demographics). All of these points will get the Buddhist voter back with MR. Point (4) may turn off the separatist crowd in the Tamil and Muslim community, but I am not sure these voters will vote for MR anyway as Ranil REALLY DID promise them separate governed territory ‘after’ the next election. There are far more Tamils and Muslims that are comfortable living with each other and Buddhists than there are who want to live in separate governed territories, so MR should focus on ‘this’ minority vote and isolate the separatists.

You certainly gain way more votes than you lose by articulating a country-wide vision and plan to make the North and East just as “Sri Lankan” (multi-racial, multi-religious, multi-cultural) as the rest of the country.

  11. Metteyya_Brahmana Says:

MR needs to view BBS like Obama viewed Reverend Wright (his former pastor) in the 2008 US presidential election. Obama threw Reverend Wright under the bus ‘publicly’ but still won the black vote by record numbers (over 90%).

By embracing Rev. Wright, Obama would have turned off the white vote, and would have lost the election.

  13. Fran Diaz Says:

Agree with Nilwala & M. Brahmana.

Through past actions, it is the TRUST factor that MR & GR have with the Public of Lanka. Even the N&E folk must admit to the Peace Dividends. Also re the BRIBERY issue and hte MR govt., MR election office has to highlight the bribery and scam at Central Bank of the present illegal govt. Also dangers of Right to Information Bill & Sale of Land to Foreigners Bill.

Currently it is the European elections, particularly the British elections, that are in the way. Sir Ranil and Baraness CBK and Sirisena on leash, trying to perform miracles for the “Empire Strikes Back” using Tamil Caste/Separatist issues from both sides of the Palk Sts ? !! After all, it is PM David Cameron who said that ‘most of the present day problems of the world are due to Britain’ ….. that is the closest Britain has got to apologising for the Empire and its resultant ills. Empire was created for Trade, controlled solely by Britain, starting with the East INDIA Company > to the British Empire with a quarter of the world’s population. “Buy Empire Goods” was the logo of the Empire.
If countries want to join any Empire, they should say so to their people. Go to it with eyes wide open on re-Colonisation.

  14. Fran Diaz Says:

correction – read ” … was the logo of the Empire” as “words around the logo of the Empire”.

    ——–

Re BBS itself : I had better hope re BBS actions and am disappointed with them. There were rumours that the BBS had Norwegian connections (funds, no doubt) but I thought they were beyond that.
The fact that the BBS had connections to the mosque attacks is distressing and very disappointing. I remember writing into the L’web quie some time ago, that BBS must keep off all violence. However, they appear to have fluffed it up.

I really think that religion and State ought to be separate, even though that would be hard in a country such as Lanka paraticularly in times of dire troubles. At the same time, Buddhism has to be protected by the State, as the majority of priests and people are not fighting people such as the members of the BBS.

  15. Ben Silva Says:

I agree that Buddhism should be protected due to culture and heritage. However, Kalama sutra put into practice to question the validity of various beliefs. I have prayed to Allah, Christian gods, Kataragama god and Buddhists gods to help ‘independent’ reach nivan sepa. However, it has not worked. Probably gods do not exist. It is possible that gods are too busy, managing ‘sansare’ and probably ignoring me.

  16. Lorenzo Says:

    Metteyya_Brahmana,

MR CANNOT become the PM because the PM is appointed by Maru Sira (NOT ELECTED).

Elections CANNOT bring back MR to power. At most he will be a MP.

Maru Sira and Butt-alanda came to power by FOUL MEANS – conspiracy.

Soon Maru Sira will do a FONSEKA to MR and GR and they will NOT be able to contest ANY election for 7 years.

  17. charithsls Says:

I too agree with most of the comments here & feel MR should take the blame he has brought on himself & the country but he is the best man still to take the country forward while addressing to his shortcomings.
But as the Exe presidency is going to stay & that he is unable to contest again for that post anymore & in general as a back up to the future as any natural issue such as his health, GR should be groomed to take over the leadership asap.

However what I want to remind kindly to my fellow Buddhists here is to read the story of the four bad & good mangoes, if not already read, and not to critize ANY monk with the robes , however much deemed to be unsuitable in your view, for the sake of Maha Sangha. Your offering of a Dana (or hurling abuse) is considered is not for the person in the robes but for the Maha Sangha. This has become very common in the media unfortunately, surely with non Buddhists inciting & taking a lead and the ignorant Buddhists falling to the prey. You could remember, blessings on him,MR never criticized Buddhists clergy. Hope saner council will prevail among our fellow Buddhists.

  18. Independent Says:

    Ben,
    Please take your medicine.
There is no point arguing about Nirvana Sepa here, as NO ONE is interested. There are other things to care now.
With the power of Tripple Gem I wish you fast recovery.

  19. Independent Says:

    Senevi,
The points BBS fighting for were justifiable. But this man is not a monk. He is destroying Buddhism.
Therefore , surely , some evil force behind BBS.

  20. Metteyya_Brahmana Says:

    Lorenzo,

Pres has to appoint the PM who has the CONFIDENCE of Parliament according to the Sri Lanka Constitution, and that will be MR if his party wins a majority in parliament or forms a coalition with other parties to have a majority.

If Pres does NOT appoint person who has confidence of Parliament, he could be forced to do so by Supreme Court who will simply follow the Constitution.

Maithripala as president has been reduced to a “queen of England” role with no substantive power and the PM running the show. The queen of England would NEVER go against the will of the people and not appoint a PM selection of the party won a majority in the election, as this would be ANTI-democratic and the exact opposite of the platform Maithripala ran on – “good governance, democracy, rule of law”.

The whole point of the 19A is to shift power away from the president in favor of Parliament, and Maithripala will be hard pressed to reverse course and suddenly become a dictator simply because the person ‘he’ wanted to be PM did not win the people’s vote in the general election.

I personally think the England model is BS, and we should dispense with the ceremonial ‘queen/president’ altogether.

  21. Metteyya_Brahmana Says:

    Lorenzo,

As an addition to my last comment, if the SLFP had any balls, they would reject all of the minor minister positions, unite as a party to muster a majority in Parliament with the other parties to oust RW on a no confidence vote, install their own PM, and run the country. These SLFP guys, especially the ones that caved in to Ranil for a minor ministership, are weaklings.

Ranil has to be the weakest leader to ever run the country, but the opposition is so disorganized and self-oriented that they can’t get it together to assert their real power.

  22. Ben Silva Says:

Independent, Hope you get a one way ticket to Nirvana- then we will have one less traitor and one less enemy of the Sinhalese. The root cause of the problems we face is due to people like you,

  23. Fran Diaz Says:

It is the crashing/unstable International Money Market that is governing everything. That is why there is so much confusion. SELF SUFFICIENCY in Basic Needs the need of the hour to SURVIVE and ignore needs from abroad as well as fob off attempts of take over from foreign sources.

Direct local energy to SELF SUFFICIENCY. It is something people understand.

  24. Ben Silva Says:

Independent – If you seriously believe in nirvana and the triple gem, which are Indian myths, you need medical help. Please go back to your asylum. You and Sirisena appear to be in the same confused state.

  25. Independent Says:

    –N Silva,

You say “If you seriously believe in nirvana and the triple gem, which are Indian myths, you need medical help.”

This is an insult to Fran Diaz, Metteyya_Brahmana (who is a god Buddhist meditator), Senevirat, Nilwala and billions of people who too have gone to refuge of the Tripple Gem. They don’t need medical help, but you MUST take medicine NOW

You gave gone refuge of the arisen situation and trying to take advantage. Your statement tying me and Sirisena together is the proof.

Stop insulting Buddhist and Buddhism. Your problems are due to unemployment , self condemnation, zero self belief and it is called depression , which is a deceases. You MUST take your medicine now.

  26. Independent Says:

    G_N Silva,
Please go and speak to Achan Sumedho if he is still there in Lonodon Amarawati. You will be fully cured, you will achieve full self confidence and this is what I call the “everyday Nibbaana”, or Vimutti.
Then you will realise the worth of Sangha , the thrid Tripple Gem.

  27. Ben Silva Says:

Independent, Please become a proper Buddhist like myself, following precepts and Kalama sutra. I exclude blind faith Indian myths, such as rebirth, Mirvana that existed before Buddhas time.
