VICTORY DAY

I hoisted the National Flag. I thanked the former President Mahinda Rajapakse  for his determination to end terrorism. I thanked him for finally eliminating terrorism.  I thanked him for giving the necessary political leadership for the war against terrorism and for its success. I thanked Gotabhaya Rajapakse for coordinating the armed forces and taking the best men and women to defeat the ruthless evil forces of terrorism.

I prayed to those men of the Armed Forces- officers, and soldiers who made  this victory over the evil forces of terrorism possible.  I sent waves of  kindness and compassion for the  health, happiness and contentment of  those living  valiant soldiers and transferred merit to those who  had given their lives to save the motherland from terror.

Today is the Victory Day on which every Sri Lankan should think of the 30 years of suffering under terrorism a  disaster that was terminated thanks to our Armed Forces. It is the day that we should pray that  Sri Lanka  would never again allow terrorism to raise its head.

We Sinhala Buddhists have no remembrance days.  We have death anniversaries where we transfer merit to the departed.

Today is the Victory Day   for every one who loves  Sri Lanka our motherland  to celebrate paying homage to our  valiant soldiers who faced forces of terrorism of unknown strength and defeated them  to redeemed the country from thirty years of  suffering under terror.

If the Tamils in the North and the East did not go through that suffering , well and good.  But we  our people in the boarder villages, our Ministers, our Priests and poor Buddhist devotees, school children, even passengers in buses, soldiers on vacation, Army and Police officers,  died under that miserable terrorism. That terror spread out to thirty years  and through out that period  there wasn’t perhaps a day that passed without some one  killed by the terrorists.

At last we can breath the free air of our  county Sri Lanka, where there is no fear of being shattered by a claymore bomb placed by a terrorist.

Ranil Wickramasinghe and his UNP Ministers do not celebrate the Victory Day.

They cannot as they are  no patriots who love this country.  They would not have ever risked their lives to save it.

They  of the UNP laughed at the valiant men of the Armed Forces who were risking their lives to save Sri Lanka.  Ranil Wickramasinghe said that Toppiagal is a barren rock, Lakshman Kiriella said, any fool can fight a war, and Ravi Karunanayakam said  the Armed Forces are going to Madavachchi saying they are  going to Kilinochchi.

How can these men of the UNP ever give credit to our Armed Forces, for those great deeds they have accomplished ?  Ranil Wickramasinghe and his UNP Ministers are living in  Sri Lanka and looking at USA.?

Maithripala Sirisena who said he acted as the Minister of Defence too has no Victory Day.  It is not by chance that he walked into a den of traitors.

In Sri Lanka the Victory Day should be synonymous with peace and freedom.   It should be a day of celebration every where, where every one from school children  to the young and old should participate.

UNP may remove Victory Day from the calendar but it will remain in the heart of every one of us and should be retold to generations after, so that Victory Day will be remembered generations after generations.

France has a Victory Day to  celebrate the embarkation of the Allied Forces on the Normandy beach to chase away the Germans from the Occupation of France.  But our Armed Forces eliminated the terrorists single handed without the aid of any other Nation.  Therefore ours is a greater Victory Day.

    VICTOR DAY IS ***VICTORY DAY***
THERE CAN BE NO CHANGE IN TERMINOLOGY BY ANY GRAMA SEVAKA OR DENTAL MECHANIC, PERIOD.

I lit a candle and waved the Lion Flag. Once again thank you Mahinda, Gotabhaya, Sarath Fonseka, Wasantha Karannagoda, Roshan Goonatilleke and all members of our Security forces for securing the country for the true sense of the word.

Growing up with terrorism, I never expected to see this happen in my lifetime. 19th May 2009, the War Victory Day is the happiest day in my life.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. OBATA SAHA RATATA, THERUWAN SARANAI.

VIGNESWARAN CARED TWO HOOTS FOR A COURT ORDER. HE LIGHTS A LAMP IN MEMORY OF LTTE, RIDICULING THE JUDICIARY. WHAT WAS THE POLICE DOING. ????

    VICTORY DAY!

Absolutely. GOOD won over EVIL on victory day.

Thousands of Tamils travelled from Colombo, etc. to Mulaitivu beach to commemorate their dead terrorists for the first time!! They live from Singhala people’s custom but finance LTTE.

But SL cannot celebrate the victory. What a stupid govt.

We must fix the wrongs of previous victory days too.

Previous victory days were all about TRUE HEROES (soldiers) marching under the hot sun and saluting politicians in the shade!! NO proper salary increase was given for them after the war. NO other benefits either. Then they were told to build houses of Tamils while they themselves lived in huts. They were forced to build schools for Tamils when their kids had no proper school to go to. This money should have gone to soldiers as a salary increase.

It certainly is Victory Day ! With you, Charles and all the other like minded people. Call it by any name, but for ordinary folk of Lanka it is Victory over terrorism and the fear and uncertainty, waste of life and property, sadness and despair, that went with Terrorism.

On the Day, 19th of May 2009, Lanka was made whole again.

    Indeed, we pray also
that the witch hunt set up by the present dud govt to harrass and harm MR & his govt members ceases and all our People live together in Peace & Prosperity. Lesson Learnt here is never to let the same conditions that brought in Terrorism rise again.

We also have Questions to ask one and all :

    * It is pertinent to question on such a Day, why it is that Tamil Leaders have NOT officially revoked the Vaddukoddai Resolution (1976) to gain a separate state for Tamils using Violence. It cannot be all give by Sinhala folk and nothing given from Tamil leaders.
    * It is pertinent to question on such a Day, why it is that the full Sirima/Shasthri Pact (1964) was never honored. Lanka absorbed 145,000 Tamil people who were supposed to go back to Tamil Nadu but never did.
    * Ask aslo why Lanka is being asked to absorb further thousands of Tamils who came in illegally.
    * Ask too why Lanka must further absorb thosuands of Tamil folk who are supposed to be in camps in Tamil Nadu.

I started the day with a short prayer thanking the brave men and women who took up the challenge and fought terrorists to the end. 26,549 of them made the supreme sacrifice for a unitary Sri Lanka. They left behind their loved ones and we must look after them. We must also look after disable soldiers, on duty personnel and retired personnel. People put up with terror attacks and contributed to the war win in small measure. Leaders (2005-09) made it a reality by allocating resources and providing guidance. Sri Lankan expat groups like SPUR, etc. also contributed to the sustained war and peace efforts. Buddhist clergy played a unique role in bringing peace through war. History too played its part in the victory. Chola (77 years), Elara (44 years) and LTTE (33 years since 1976 Vadukodai resolution) invasions have many things in common.

It is a day of victory, nothing else. The war had a clear winner (hence victory day) and a clear loser. That is what makes it so special. Apart from a handful of counter terrorist wars, this win stands out across the world. Many nations are now contemplating on copying the winning Sri Lankan counter terrorism strategy.

From what is happening in the country today, this will not be the last war in our life time. As Tamils glorify terrorists, another war is inevitable. Replicating the successes of the war that ended in 2009 will be the key to sustainable peace. Fearing war, avoiding war at any cost, wars are unwinnable and there is no winner in a war are distractions pandering into the wishes of terrorists. We must shed these regressive thoughts and be war ready at all times. That will ensure lasting peace.

Unfortunately, the government failed to root out Tamil nationalism unlike Nazism which was largely rooted out after WW2. This drives Tamils into conflict again. Tamil nationalism, illegal migration of Tamils to the island, Tamil official language and devolution of power must be removed by legal means from the island. Pandering into these demands only encourages separatism and terrorism. President Mahinda made a golden statement declaring Victory in 2009 stating there are no more majorities and minorities, there are only those who love the nation and those who don’t. Sadly his government failed to live by that. LLRC (2011), EPC (2012) and NPC (2013) elections which elected same rabid racists into top posts, a task force to implement reconciliation, etc. turned this statement upside down. Commonwealth leadership was assumed by the country which is an insult to heroes who laid their lives fighting the very same commonwealth empire.

The government also failed to ensure the peace dividend reached everyone equitably paying special attention to those who supported its war effort. This is the main reason why average Sri Lankans are reluctant to engage in Victory Day events (including small family events) unlike other nations. Even 100 years after WW1 and 70 years after WW2 ended, western countries mark the victory and sacrifices of their men and women as the win brought about economic and social benefits to all, particularly to the winners.

Marking the Victory we must look at the good and bad of the event and its subsequent associations.

Well said Susantha” Victory day is Victory day nothing else. For those Yankee and Indian lovers it may not be a Victory day but for millions who love this land, today will be a very important Victory day. I think it was one of the greatest victories where a democratic country fought and won alone without any help from outsiders or outside country. Hats of to those war heroes and the greatest ever President we had in Sri Lanka for decades. Pimpy Ranil & Choura Chandrika almost gave half of the country to the murderer Prabakaran but luckily God send MR took over and wiped out the whole brutal murdering gang of terrorists from our soil for no return.

It’s a shame to have a Govt who kneels in front of the minority and the International coup plotters who openly supports Tamil terrorists. Heroes were jailed while terrorist sympathizers were allowed to commemorate against the court orders. What a shame? Sinhalese wake up before we lose our identity and the country we love most. Help to send these Gobbels home in the coming General election. Do not trust Nivata Sira who rules the country with a revengeful heart. These Indian lovers must be stopped if not they will change everything we Sinhalese cherish as ours.

My dear Charles and all, I agree with all of you whole heartedly on this issue, proving Chale’s saying “I never agreed with you” wrong. Being a very moderate believer in reconcilliation process and live and let live, I cannot imagine how Vigneswaran is after a pound of flesh from the Sinhalese. If anti Sinhala Racist Tamils commemorate the dead Terrorists, what is the meaning of reconcilliation? It is the one way trade the racist Tamil politicians are practicing. The mouth of the cow on the South and Udder on the North. Vigneswaran has proved himself as a paracite of Sinhalese.
