The Third Hopper Betrayal: Dealing the Foreign Cards Again

The recent UPFA Anuradapura meeting did not see hundreds of CTB buses transporting supporters as were the case in the presidential election. But the crowds appeared bigger and were definitely larger than the UNP meeting in Kandy. And this was after Sirisena had backstabbed his own party three times, in the process becoming irrelevant in the future.
The most revealing of Sirisena’s three back stabbings (hopper” turnarounds) was the speech that he delivered after the MR nomination for Parliament. Sirisena said that he, the party’s leader, will not be supporting his party’s candidates at the coming election, becoming the only leader in the world not supporting his own party. Sirisena also said that he dissolved Parliament to prevent the defeat of Ranil at a no-confidence motion on the bond scam and that he had been against granting nomination for Rajapakse when the vast majority of UPFA members wanted MR. He was clearly not loyal to his party and the question is who really are his masters. Let us recall.
Thecoalition of improbable and contradictory forces brought together by local and external forces for Sirisena has collapsed. The UPFA/SLFP grass root pressure for MR with all MR’s faultshad built up so much that Sirisena, the nominee of the UNP, Chandrika and foreign forces including foreign spy agency NGOs buckled under. This was the second hopper” betrayal by Sirisena as he betrayed those foreign forces who brought him to power. The UNP which had not been informed of his turnaround was furious. Chandrika spat venom on TV and left in a huff to London. The JHU left the UPFA. Ratana’s aide was arrested for drug trafficking. The SLFP Treasurer Navinna joined the UNP. Well paid social media propagandistsfor the Sirisena election were furious. Several of these now betrayed by Sirisena joined the UNP camp.Meanwhile pavement hawkers were back only a few weeks after Colombo was voted number one. Thegovernment pressattacked the decision to promote MR indicating who actually controlled the government media-Sirisena or Ranil.
The Hundred Days (okay, it was not 100,much more) resembled one of those films where locals and spies struggle on a cliff’s edge.There was credible talk that the American CIA, Indian RAW and the British secret servicesgettinginvolved in regime change while the Chinese looked on. This fighthad twists and turns. First, there was Mahinda Rajapaksa, deemed unassailable when he called for an election two years before the due date – on the advice of his astrologer. And there was his obedient”Cabinet supporting all his decisionstill the last moment of backstabbing. A colourlessSirisenawho had hitherto sung all the praises of MR including calling him a Real Maharaja”,now had his last supper (of hoppers) with Rajapakse, knifed MR and announced his campaign.Sirisenadeclared that the MR family owned helicopters, a son had bought a horse from Buckingham Palace which he flew to NuwaraEliya and another owned expensive Lamborghinis.All were found to be total lies. He continued the lies when he declared in a 70thbirthday felicitation for Chandrikasaying the latter never stole, although she was found guilty by the Supreme Court.And the biggest thievery by her was giving Sri Lanka’s territory to the LTTE.
As the new minority UNP government ruled,an unelected Executive Council of anti-MR forces acted as an unconstitutional law enforcer.On election as President, Sirisena swore in the minority UNP’sRanil as Prime Minister while Sirisena’s own party had much greater numbers. This was also whileJayaratne,his own party’s PM, was still in office. Lawyers comment thatthis was irregular, if not illegal. Otherquestionable events followed quickly. The Chief Justice Mohan Pieriswho came in after the injunction of ShiraniBandaranayake, was removed as the pro-UNP faction of the Bar Association acted out mob rule.Bandaranayake herself had been hurriedly removed by the MR regime but with the formalities of a Parliamentary injunction. She was now brought back and immediately replaced by the new Chief Justice, again raising issues of legality and propriety.
At dissolution,the 100 days” governmenthad shown its many contradictions and cracks. Theeconomy was stalling, infrastructure building stopped, and basic services like garbage collection was being delayed (I live barely 300 yards from Sirisena’s new palace but the garbage collectornow comes only rarely). And the helicopters flying over my houseseem at times roughly the same as during the time of MR. Sirisena and his supporters had campaigned to bring supremacy to Parliament but in its last weeksParliamenthad virtually come to a halt.
Theprimacy of international forces on Sirisena was revealed when possibly the two closest local advisers to Sirisena,ChampikaRanawaka andRajitha Senaratne heard of the Parliament dissolutiononly after Indian and Western diplomats had been informed by Sirisena. And the JVP, presumably Marxist and so against Western imperialism and Indian sub- imperialism had also fallen into the Western line. Seemed so far away from the time the JVP got 41 seats in parliament. These all appeared to recall how the US regularly changed governments in Latin and Central America and did coups in Vietnam and Iran to prevent their majority coming to power. The nearest parallel in Sri Lanka was perhaps the 1962 attempted coup by essentially Catholic officers in our Army, disgruntled by the nationalist changes in the mid-1950’s.
Rajapaksehad partly helped bring about his own downfall. If the greatest threat to MR was from the West and India, he had manned our foreign service withinept cronies and relatives. The latter came under the heel of Sajin VaasGunawaradane who from some accounts had beenthe equivalent of a wharf clerk in Dubai before befriending MR.Most of these personnel had had no contacts with opinion making groups in those countries such as in universities and foreign policy think tanks. To expect them to defend Sri Lanka and MR was plainly stupid as the West angry at MR for not heeding their demandsto stop the war and not completely defeat the LTTE.Tamara Kunanayakam, our best envoy in Geneva (and incidentally without any connections to foreign intelligence like India’s RAW) had concluded that the US seeks to eventually partition Sri Lanka”. MR’s casual disregard of the foreign front was seen when he first visited the UN General Assembly accompanied by nearly a plane-load of hisfavorites.To understand more, we must go further back.
MR had taken over after the disastrous 2001- 2003 Chandrika/ Ranil government with its Norwegian/LTTE crafted CFA.And later were Chandrika’s pro LTTE initiatives of P-TOMs, and ISGA.(Chandrika had earlier promised 10 years of rule to the LTTE.)The CFA had given de-facto control of large parts of the country to the LTTE, essentially no-go areas to key Sri Lanka government organs. And the LTTE began erecting all the institutions for a separate state.The commitment to the defence of the country of Chandrika was seen when, as she was rushing to the airport,Kolonnawa oil tanks were attacked by the LTTE but she did not turn back. (With the recent MR nomination, she again fled to the airport).
The 2009 war victoryand consequent massive popularity had ensured MR an easy wininthe 2010 election. He could have then entered the ranks of statesmen. But through the 18th Amendment, he removed the brakes on a third termand strengthened provisions for arbitrary rule.This included an enormous budget for the President’s department whose details were not revealed to the public. And while doing nothing against the un-Buddhist BBS, he lost the Muslims who had supported the war against the LTTE and had hailed his support for the Palestine cause. Yet, a high rate of development, especially in infrastructure occurred. This was reminiscent of the building of super highways in the US after World War II or the building in Germany of Autobahnsafter World War I, both leading to economic booms. The Sri Lanka high growth was facilitated by China’s help.
Behind the MRfaçade,elementsin his own group were plotting his downfall. Asoka Abeygunarwardana a JHU ideologue has written that their stabbing process” had started in January 2013. The LTTE mouthpiece TamilNet reported that an understanding had been reached in 2013 in a meeting in Singapore where it noted Mangala Samaraweera had come as a ‘beggar’ urging Tamil support for regime change”. Others in the Singapore meeting included elements of the Tamil Diaspora, the Global Tamil Forum and Sri Lanka based Tamil and others including Colombo University personnel.Other Colombo University personnel later wrote how they too had planned the overthrow. Chandrika in a triumphant mood recalled how she helped the plot. News appeared how she as a member of the Clinton Foundation whose Hillary Clinton had promoted the US Tilt to Asia” to counterChina probably gave her Western contacts. These charges appeared unsurprising when I recall how around 15 to 20 years ago, a group of us in New York were asked by the father of the disgraced Sri Lankan Raj Rajaratnam whether we wanted to see Chandrika’s proposals for the Tamils. I said no, simply because I thought how would Rajaratnam Seniorhave had access, unless the proposals were jointly written with separatist groupsby Chandrika. These suspicions were confirmed,when on election Chandrika started giving in to the LTTE agenda.
On Sirisena coming to power, there was a spate of accusations and arrests for financial impropriety of the MR regime by a new agency FCID,appointed directly under the Ranil Cabinet. According to some, this political FCID was not legally binding and some of the accused have gone to courts against it.After dissolution Ranil now says that he will on reelection in August bring laws to make the FCID legal.TheFCID did not go into the Central Bank bondscam under Ranil. Publicity was given of alleged tens of billions of dollars that the MR family had stashed away overseas-an improbable figure much higher than Sri Lanka’s total revenue and so a complete fiction.At first sight,the charges appeared believable because of the MR family having tight control on many decisions (and in the future some charges might even be proved). More believable were the government monies spent to buy potential opinion makers on large-scaletamashas (dansalas) at MR’s Temple Trees. That did not help this time. The accusations of corruption were carried by those who all had been members of the cabinet (including Sirisena, Champika, Ratana, and Rajitha) and who weretherefore collectively responsible. The infrastructure development projects were now stopped especially those funded by the Chinese.
Sirisena’s mental attitude to foreigners was revealed when on return from his visit to the UK,he proudly declared to his SLFP that the British Queen had shaken hands with him without gloves. This is ignorance and revealing a slavish attitude, I have seen the British Queen twice at close quarters when two close relatives met her, and she shakes hands without gloves. Commenting on the same UK visit, Sirisena mentioned slavishly again that British PM Cameron had come to his car to greet him. But Cameron personally comes to the car when heads of states visit. I felt so ashamed.
Fast forward 100 Days” and some of the promises were kept and others not. Of the promised reduction in prices, the most touted were those of fuel prices. This was not surprising as around the world fuel prices had collapsed and every country dropped fuel prices. Eventually no significant faults ininfrastructure developments like expressways and the ports including the port city had been found and the Sirisena/Ranil government quietly restarted them. Just after dissolution, Sirisena and Mangala restarted the construction of Matara-Hambantota expressway
With the 19th, the 18thAmendment to the Constitution was largely undone, but nominations to the independent commissions were not forthcoming. Sirisena’s nominee,Champika was objected to. Of the three non-political appointees, only Saleem seemed to fit the bill.
RadhikaCoomaraswamy’sNGO had advocated R2P- a new colonial code for Western armed intervention. And Sarvodaya’sAriyaratne was no supporter of transparency as he had avoided appearing before the Premadasa appointed Commission on NGOs when huge fraudscame to light. And Sarvodayain cahoots with the Norwegians had illegally settled in the Vanni those Indians being sent back to India under the Sirima-Shastri Pact. These became the last soldiers of the LTTE.Of the Right to Information” provisions, significantly the NGOs had been left out of the draft billprecisely because if details of their money sources were out, some of the connections to foreign spy agencies would be revealed. The 20th Amendment was dropped.And Parliament was dissolved in a hurry as Sirisena admits, to preventthe no-confidence motions against Ranil and Ravi.
In the coming weeks, this drama written on a foreign script would be played out.MR had said that he had learnt lessons including on the BBS and hopefully on the mistakes of concentration of power and neglect of the foreign front. But over the last six months, since he lost he had risen up as an underdog through an exercise in back-to-basics politics like in the US primaries. Soon after his defeat, crowds came to see him. I checked several times and they were not transported crowds like during his last election. The meetings organised by his supporters to bring him back gathered momentum and the huge Matara meeting was an eye opener. Another was the large May Day meeting by MR’s supporters. In contrast, the SirisenaMay Day was a flop. It would appear that MR and his group could now have the edge. But to his lessons learnt should be added upgrading the thinking apparatus of this country, a major factor in developing self-confidence. I do academic travel often (on invitation) and I can see the huge difference between local and say, Indian intelligentsia. MR, build the locals and forget your cronies and forget the insulting dansal. They will then not become prey for NGO and foreign spy money. More important, they will be the best defence for you and the country.
The current election campaign has brought the contradictions between the two leaders of the UPFA, Sirisena and Rajapakse. Indian media reported that the anti-Rajapakse group that defected to the UNP did so with the blessings of Sirisena. Sirisena has now declared that he will not support parliamentary bids of his own UPFA candidates, the majority of whom are with Rajapaksa. If the UPFA gets the majority it will be against Ranil and Sirisena. Sirisena has already become isolated from his own party, and as he admits attacked as a “dhushtaya, drohiya and pavadenna”,villain and betrayer”. He further declares that There has not been a President who has been insulted like I have been”. The coming Parliament will not be stable. Sirisena and the countryare in an unenviable situation. And Sirisena has already become irrelevant seemingly only a greedy puppet on foreign strings.

මා දන්නා පරිදි මේජර් ජනරාල් ප්රසන්න සිල්වා කියන්නේ වර්තමාන ආණ්ඩුව බලයට පත් වුණාට පසුව ආරක්ෂක අමාත්යාංශයට අනුයුක්තව ආරක්ෂක ලේකම්වරයා යටතේ කටයුතු කරන ප්රධාන නිලධාරියෙක්. මේ පුද්ගලයෝ 04 දෙනා තමන්ට අයිති නැති පිස්තෝලයකුත් අරගෙන ව්යාජ අංක තහඩු සහිත වාහනයක නැගගෙන රාත්රී කාලයේ කුමක්ද කළේ?
හිටපු ජනාධිපති මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ මැතිතුමන්, හිටපු ආරක්ෂක ලේකම් ගෝඨාභය රාජපක්ෂ මැතිතුමන් ජීවත් වන්නේ මේ සිදුවීම සිදු වූ මිරිහාන ප්රදේශය අවට. ඒ එක පැත්තක්. ඒ වගේම ‘හින්දු පුවත්පත’ වාර්තා කරලා තියෙනවා ‘කොටි සංවිධානයේ පුනරුත්ථාපනය වූ සාමාජිකයන් කිහිප දෙනෙක් දකුණු ඉන්දියාවේදී සයනයඞ් කරල් සහ පුපුරන ද්රව්ය සහිතව අත්අඩංගුවට ගෙන තිබෙනවා’ කියලා. මේ සිද්ධිදාමයෙන් අපේ රටේ ආරක්ෂාව කොයි අතටද යන්නේ කියන එක තහවුරු වෙනවා.
ශ්රී ලංකාවේ විසූ, සිරියාවේදී මියගිය ISIS ත්රස්තයා පමණක් නොවෙයි, තවත් පුද්ගලයන් පස් දෙනෙක් මෙ රට තුළ ඒ ආකාරයේ ත්රස්ත කටයුතුවල නියැලෙන බව අපට වාර්තා වෙලා තියෙනවා. එක පැත්තකින් අද ISIS එක මේ රට ඇතුළේ පැටවු ගහනවා. අනෙක් පැත්තෙන් දෙමළ ජාතිවාදී බෙදුම්වාදය දකුණු ඉන්දියාවේ ඉදන් සයනයිඞ් කරල් එකතු කරනවා, පුපුරන ද්රව්ය එකතු කරනවා. ඒවා ලංකාවට
රැගෙන ඒමට කුරුමානම් අල්ලනවා. උතුරු මුහුදු තරයේ සම්පූර්ණයෙන්ම නාවික හමුදා ආරක්ෂාව ඉවත්කර තිබෙනවා. ඒ නිසා දකුණු ඉන්දියාවේ සිට කිසිදු පරීක්ෂාවකින් තොරව මේ රටට බෝට්ටු එනවා. ඒ වගේම රෝ ඔත්තු සේවයේ ක්රියාකාරීත්වය විශාල ලෙස ඉහළ ගොස් තිබෙනවා. ඒ නිසා මිරිහානයේදි සුදු වෑන් එකක් හමුවීමත් සමගම අපට බරපතළ සැකයක් ඇති වෙනවා මේ කල්ලිය ආවේ හිටපු ජනාධිපති මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ මහතා සහ ගෝඨාභය රාජපක්ෂ මහතා මරා දැමීමට කියලා.
මේජර් ජනරාල්ගේ ඇමති හිතවතා කවුද?
අපි දන්නවා මේ මේජර් ජනරාල්වරයා ආණ්ඩුවේ අමාත්යවරයකුගේ ඉතා සමීප හිතවතෙක් බව. ඒ අමාත්යවරයාගේ නිර්දේශය අනුව තමයි එතුමාට ආරක්ෂක අමාත්යාංශයේ ඉහළ පුටුවක් හිමිව තිබෙන්නේ. මම මේ කියන අමාත්යවරයා ඉහත කී මේජර් ජෙනරාල්වරයා ඉතා සමීපව මෙහෙයවන්න ඉඩ තිබෙනවා. අපි මේ මතු කරන්නේ අපේ සැකය. කෙසේ වෙතත් ඉතා පැහැදිලියි, මේක රට බේරාගත් නායකයාගේ ආරක්ෂාව ඉතාමත් අවදානමට ලක්ව ඇති තත්වයක් බව.
එක පැත්තකින් එක්සත් ජාතික පක්ෂය සහ ජනතා විමුක්ති පෙරමුණ පිළිවෙළින් අධිකරණයට සහ මානව හිමිකම් කොමිසමට යනවා, හිටපු ජනාධිපතිවරයාගේ ආරක්ෂාව අඩු කරන්න කියලා. නමුත් අද ඒ අයට පෙනෙන්නේ නැහැ, ෆීල්ඞ් මාර්ෂල් සරත් ෆොන්සේකා මහතා තමන්ට හිමි සියලූ ආරක්ෂක වරප්රසාද සහිතව ඡුන්දය ඉල්ලන බව. ඒ තත්වයට විරුද්ධව එජාපය සහ ජවිපෙ අධිකරණයට හෝ මානව හිමිකම් කොමිසමට යන්නේ නැහැ.
එක පැත්තකින් ජනාධිපතිවරයාගේ ආරක්ෂාව අඩු කරන්න කියලා එජාපය සහ ජවිපෙ උසාවි, මානව හිමිකම් කොමිසමට ගොස් එතුමාගේ ජීවිතය සතුරාගේ උණ්ඩයට ගොදුරුකර දෙන්න හදනවා, අනෙක් පැත්තෙන් එතුමා වාසය කරන මිරිහාන පැත්තට සුදු වෑන් එකක් එනවා.
ගිය ආණ්ඩුවටනේ සුදු වෑන් කතා ගෙතුවේ. ඒත් එහෙම ඒවා, ඒ කාලයේ හසු වුණාද? මේ සුදු වෑන් එක පොලීසියට හසු නොවුණා නම් ඉහත සත්ය අනාවරණය වෙන්නේ නැහැ. පොලිස් පොතේ ලියැවිලා තියෙන හින්දයි ආණ්ඩුව අද හිරවෙලා තියෙන්නේ. නමුත් දැන් අපට ආරංචි වෙලා තිබෙනවා, මේ අය දැන් පරීක්ෂණ වෙන අතකට හරවන්න හදනවා කියලා. මේක ඉතා බරපතළයි.
මේ රටේ ජාතික ආරක්ෂාව තහවුරු කර ගත්තේ සුජාත දු පුතුන් 27,000ක් අවසන් සටනේදී ජීවිත පූජා කරලා. ඒ දරුවන් ජීවිත පරිත්යාගයෙන් නිර්මාණය කරපු ජාතික ආරක්ෂාව අද මහ දවල් නැති වෙලා යනවා. ජාතික ආරක්ෂාව පිළිබඳ බරපතළ සැකයක් ජනතාව තුළ ඇති වෙලා තියෙනවා.
අලූත්ගමින් අහුවුණා දුරස්ථ පාලකයක් සහිත බෝම්බයක්. ඒ පිළිබඳ ප්රවෘත්ති ඊයේ රජයේ ස්වාධීන රූපවාහිනී නාලිකාව මගින් විකාශය වුණා. මට ආරංචියි අද කියනවා කියලා රජයේ මාධ්යයෙන්, ‘ඒක රතිඤ්ඤයක්’ කියලා. ඒ විතරක් නොවෙයි, බත්තරමුල්ලේ ආරක්ෂක හමුදා මූලස්ථානයේ ඉදිකිරිම් පිළිබඳව විගණනය කිරීමට මුදල් අමාත්යාංශයේ විගණන නිලධාරීන් යොදවා තිබෙනවා. ඒක ප්රශ්නයක් නැහැ. හැබැයි මුදල් අමාත්යාංශයේ නොවන, විගණන නිලධාරීන් නොවන දෙමළ ඩයස්පෝරාවට අයත් දෙමළ ජාතිකයන් දෙදෙනෙක් ඒ මුදල් අමාත්යාංශයේ නිලධාරීන් සමග පැමිණ ආරක්ෂක මූලස්ථානායේ සම්පූර්ණ සැලැස්ම, රේඛා සටහන් ඉල්ලා තිබෙනවා. විගණනයට මේවා අවශ්ය වෙන්නේ නැහැ. රවී කරුණානායක මහතාගේ අනුදැනුම මත පැමිණ එසේ මුදල් අමාත්යාංශයේ විගණන නිලධාරීන් නොවන දෙමළ පුද්ගලයන් දෙදෙනෙක් ආරක්ෂක මූලස්ථානයේ සම්පූර්ණ සැලැස්ම ඉල්ලන්නේ ඇයි? මේ විදියට බෙදුම්වාදී ත්රස්තවාදීන් අද ජාතික ආරක්ෂාවට අදාළ සංවේදී තොරතුරු එකතුකර ගනිමින් සිටිනවා.
ඉහත සියලූ කාරණාවලින් පැහැදිලි වෙන්නේ මේ රටේ ජාතික ආරක්ෂාව ඉතාමත් බරපතළ විදිහට බිඳ වැටෙමින් පවතින බව නේද? මේ හදන්නේ හිටපු ජනාධිපතිවරයාව පරද්දන්න බැරි නිසා මරා දමන්නද? මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ මැතිතුමාව දේශපාලන වශයෙන් ඝාතනය කරන්න බැරි වුණු හින්දා මේ හදන්නේ එතුමාව ශාරීරිකව ඝාතනය කරන්නද? රට බේරාගැනීම නිසා දෙස් විදෙස් බෙදුම්වාදී කල්ලිවල බලවත් වෛරයට පාත්ර වී සිටින නායකයා බිල්ලට දීමටද මේ සැරසෙන්නේ?

Yesterday … I CRIED with tears of sorrow when I saw Lorenzo BACKSTABBING our heroic President Mahinda Rajapaksa who restored Mother Lanka’s crown to her hallowed head!
Today …. I CRY with tears of joy when I see the said Lorenzo BACKSTABBING his yesterday’s hero Somarama Sirisena who is rapidly demolishing Sri Lanka’s security, territorial integrity and all hope of economic progress!
Lorenzo should BEWARE: BACKSTABBING is becoming a HABIT!

I did not change. My moral compass is ALWAYS turned towards SL.
It was politicians that changed. Their moral compass turned towards Endia, Salman Khan, USA, etc.
Now some have turned towards SL which is good and that makes me support them.
Your moral compass is always turned towards a particular politician. GOOD and BAD. Save your tears for tomorrow. You will need them when the HANUMAN bridge brings stinky kallathoni to SL to turn SL into Endia’s 30th state and no one is there to even TALK against it.

From 8th Jan I have never addressed this traitor Maru Sira as our President, never ever he will be our President because he was a traitor to his Boss and then to his party and then to the whole nation by joining with UNP our arch enemy. He is only a Grama Sevaka without any educational qualification except SSC. He is a stooge of the west.They were the people who brought him to that position thru a coup.It was well known fact and people should realize that this guy is there not for the love for the country or it’s people but to make the so called International community happy by obliging to their wishes and aspirations.
Only leader in the world who wished his own party to be lost in the coming General election. He has his siblings Wele Suda,Gal Suda,Cassino Suda and this guy is American Suda because he dance according to their tunes same like the Tie Coat Royalist Ranil the Gay Boy. We need to give these traitors a good answer on Aug 17th and bring back a real strong President who can answer all the critics without fear and take our beloved country to a high level to par with other developed countries in the world. Most suitable candidate for that job is none other than His Excellency Mahinda Rajapksa without any doubt. I hope most of the Sri Lankans agree with me and do the needful on Aug 17th without thinking twice.

If there are no good enough people to fill the post of President of Lanka, then best remove the post itself.
However much that MY3 tries to whitewash Ranil, it won’t gel because of Ranil’s past record. Ranil & CBK have greater loyalties outside than to Lanka. Lanka is a hard place to govern owing to Colonisation, Cold War politics, Tamil Caste wars, JVP uprisings, LTTE 30 yrs of terror.
Ex-Colonists will never leave Sri Lanka alone. Add on the Tamil Nadu Dalit problems and Church interference, and we end up with a lethal brew.
MR is the best for the PM post. He has earned the trust of most people in Lanka. However, he needs help from everyone who wants to see Lanka stable, peaceful and prosperous.

There is ONE, AND ONLY ONE “solution” to the problem of Indian fishermen fishing in Sri Lankan waters … and that is FOR INDIA to ENFORCE ITS INTERNATIONAL MARITIME OBLIGATIONS by PREVENTING its fishermen from crossing into and fishing in Sri Lankan waters, just as Sri Lanka does with respect to HER OWN fishermen!
Why is that such an ABSTRUSE, COMPLEX, and DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND concept we need to DISCUSS interminably? Forget the SELF-SERVING local Indian politics in DRavida-Nadu, and ENFORCE the INTERNATIONAL MARITIME LAW!
India MUST STOP BULLYING Sri Lanka into allowing its Fishermen to POACH in Sri Lankan waters FOR WHATEVER REASON!
If India has DENUDED its OWN WATER of Fish by HABITUAL OVERFISHING … that is India’s Prerogative and Right to do so.
However, having DEPLETED its own Fish Resource by overfishing, India has no right to DEPLETE Sri Lanka’s fisheries!
Sri Lanka … is ENFORCING its own Fishing Rights to protect the livlihood of its own citizens by using the Sri Lanka Navy, and the Coast Guard to ARREST, PROSECUTE and PUNISH the violaters, and CONFISCATE their BOATS and FISHING GEAR as the MOST EFFECTIVE DETERRENCE against the boat owners who deploy the boats and PROFIT from the ILLEGAL FISHING!
All these “DISCUSSIONS” with Sri Lanka are geared to EXTRACTING CONCESSIONS from Sri Lanka to GIVE UP ITS FISH RESOURCES in part or as a whole! DON’T DO IT!

Indian government to find a solution to fishermen issue with Sri Lanka
Aug 06, New Delhi: The central Indian government Wednesday informed parliament that it is working towards evolving a permanent solution for Tamil fishermen issue and that the External Affairs Ministry is engaged in discussions with Sri Lanka.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu has described the fishermen issue as a serious and recurring one and Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj is taking necessary interest and engaged in discussions with Sri Lanka from time to time.
Minister Naidu made this assurance after the AIADMK’s P Venugopal raised the issue of frequent attacks on Tamil Fishermen by Sri Lankan Navy, New Indian Express reported.
“Over the years and months, these attacks have become very frequent and severe. From capture, detention and harassment of our fishermen, now a state has come when they are shot at sight. It is criminal, inhuman and unjustified action by Sri Lanka,” Venugopal said in Lok Sabha. He also slammed the Centre for not condemning the statement of Sri Lankan Prime Minister against Tamil fishermen. Venugopal said despite raising this issue on several occasions in the House, no concrete action had been taken by the government.
