The Galle Magistrate on Thursday (27) lifted the foreign travel ban imposed on former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa over allegations he used a commercial floating armoury.

Police this year seized more than 3,000 weapons in 20 containers from the armoury, run by private security firm Avant Garde Maritime Services (Pvt) Ltd and docked in port of Galle.

The Galle magistrate earlier imposed a travel ban on three people: former secretary of defence Gotabaya Rajapaksa; former navy commander and adviser of Avant Garde, Satilaka Dissanayake; and another director of Avant Garde.

The armoury was a commercial venture that stored weapons for maritime security guards stationed on ships that pass near Sri Lanka, located on one of the world’s busiest sea routes.

The loosely regulated practice of arming merchant ships has flourished in recent years in response to the threat of piracy.

Whether the ban is lifted or not, I worry for Gota’s life. I wish he decides to stay in SL. With the underworld re-surfacing with the blessings of the current leaders, nobody’s life is safe however foreign assassinations are carried out in a more discreet manner as if the victim committed suicide.

Did the current lot when opposition had any fear or threat to their lives or livelihoods? These true Buddhist human beings are targeted for doing what is good for the country. SL is facing an ABUDDASSA KALA.

  5. Lorenzo Says:

GR should LEAVE SL for a few years for own safety. He fought off TERRORISTS, DRUG DEALERS and UNDERWORLD.

Now TERRORISTS, DRUG DEALERS and UNDERWORLD are in power. They might harm him. Live in USA until the dust settles and then he can come back.

  6. Kumari Says:

Very soon there will be another court statement announcing there is no evidence for a prosecution in ruggerite Thajudeen’s case. All these are the usual baseless allegations of the RW led YAHAPALANAYA clan to discredit the opponents plus for the consumption of their make believe supporters.
They exhumed the body of this young man for political mileage going against the wishes of his own family. This goes to show how bankrupt this lot is.
