Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa today accused fellow SLFP Patron Chandrika Kumaratunga of running one of the most repressive” governments in living memory and charged that her recent comments amount to an admission that she too presided over a party full of murderers and rogues.”

In an interview with The Hindu during her visit to India, Kumaratunga had accused Rajapaksa of running a police state during his tenure as the President of Sri Lanka.

She had also claimed that if he was successful in returning to power as Prime Minister in the recent parliamentary polls the country would have experienced massive killings” of innocents.

Issuing a scathing response to Kumaratunga, Rajapaksa said it was with much regret that he read certain comments made by the former president to The Hindu newspaper in India a few days ago.

Mrs Kumaratunga is a former leader of the SLFP and a current member of the Central Committee and co-Patron of our party and whatever she tells the foreign media while on overseas trips, reflects on our party and our country.”

Throughout the interview with The Hindu, Mrs Kumaratunga expressed her elation and glee at being able to defeat the SLFP led UPFA government of which I was the president and she dwelt garrulously on her own role in the conspiracy,” he said in a statement.

Rajapaksa said that no Indian would ever see a former leader (or a Central Committee member or Patron) of the Congress Party or The BJP expressing joy at the defeat of his or her own political party in that manner.

While that alone would be cause for much shame and embarrassment for all members of the SLFP and the UPFA, some of the things that she said about our party are positively insulting,” he said.

The Kurunegala District MP said that when the co-Patron and a sitting Central Committee member of the SLFP tells the foreign media that members of her own party are virtually all rogues or murderers, that reflects very badly on the party.

I took over the party that she left behind. So her statement to The Hindu amounts to an admission that she too presided over a party full of murderers and rogues.”

He said that it is incongruous for Mrs Kumaratunga to be talking of a police state because she ran one of the most repressive governments in living memory.”

The UPFA MP urged Kumaratunga not to allow her personal hatred for him to blind her to the fact that she is a former leader of the party and co-Patron and sitting Central Committee of the SLFP and that she owes it to our members not to go around the world insulting and running down her own party.”

Full Statement:

It is with much regret that I read certain comments made by former president Chandrika Kumaratunga to The Hindu newspaper in India a few days ago. Mrs Kumaratunga is a former leader of the SLFP and a current member of the Central Committee and co-Patron of our party and whatever she tells the foreign media while on overseas trips, reflects on our party and our country. Throughout the interview with The Hindu, Mrs Kumaratunga expressed her elation and glee at being able to defeat the SLFP led UPFA government of which I was the president and she dwelt garrulously on her own role in the conspiracy. No Indian would ever see a former leader (or a Central Committee member or Patron) of the Congress Party or The BJP expressing joy at the defeat of his or her own political party in that manner.

While that alone would be cause for much shame and embarrassment for all members of the SLFP and the UPFA, some of the things that she said about our party are positively insulting. She had told The Hindu that she had difficulties in looking around for an SLFP front ranker to contest against me because it was difficult to find anyone in the SLFP who wasn’t known to be corrupt or a murderer”. When the co-Patron and a sitting Central Committee member of the SLFP tells the foreign media that members of her own party are virtually all rogues or murderers, that reflects very badly on our party. There are ministers in the present government who still consider themselves to be members of the SLFP. How can these SLFP ministers face their UNP colleagues in the cabinet when their own party Patron and CC member goes around the world referring to them as rogues and murderers?

Besides, almost all the SLFP stalwarts Mrs Kumaratunga refers to were MPs and ministers in her government as well. I took over the party that she left behind. So her statement to The Hindu amounts to an admission that she too presided over a party full of murderers and rogues. The irony is that though no charge of wrongdoing has been proven against the SLFP members Mrs Kumaratunga hurls accusations at, she herself has been found guilty of an irregular land deal by the Supreme Court. There are many serious allegations of similar nature against Mrs Kumaratunga. There were times she had to reverse certain actions due to public outrage. Whether such a person has the moral standing to go around the world, accusing prominent members of the SLFP of being corrupt is a matter for the people to decide.

In this interview with The Hindu, Mrs Kumaratunga has also said that the SLFP led UPFA government of 2005-2015 was ‘a police state’ and that the conspiracy to overthrow the SLFP led government was hatched using a special software called Viber to prevent their calls from being monitored. My government never monitored any phone calls. If we did, the same equipment would now be available to the present government. Such equipment cannot be bought or operated privately. Once again, it is incongruous for Mrs Kumaratunga to be talking of a police state because she ran one of the most repressive governments in living memory. Members of her presidential security division were convicted by the courts for harassing and terrorising artistes Rookantha Gunatilleke and Chandralekha Perera in the presence of their own children. The doings of underworld figures like Beddagane Sanjiva who were prominent members of her security unit have been extensively reported on by the press. Mrs Kumaratunga’s transgressions in this regard are too numerous to recount here.

When I took over from Mrs Kumaratunga in 2005, there was a separate state in this country in all but name. Terrorists were ruling about a third of the country. For more than a decade, the country had seen very little development. During my tenure, I am proud to say that I concentrated on solving the country’s problems. I saw to it that terrorism was eliminated and that the country was developed. I did not spend my time persecuting my political opponents or go around the world maligning my own party and bringing disgrace upon my country. All members of the SLFP should be mindful that Mrs Kumaratunga’s statements about our party only goes to strengthen our opponents at our expense. We should be working to strengthen our party not to weaken it further.

Mrs Kumaratunga broke away from the SLFP in the 1980s and went against the party and her own mother but I stood by Mrs Sirimavo Bandaranaike and protected the party. Mrs Kumaratunga also worked against the SLFP and the UPFA at the presidential elections of 2005, 2010 and 2015. At the last parliamentary election, even though many people wanted me to contest from another party, I thought of the party and did not abandon the SLFP, but Mrs Kumaratunga publicly asked voters to vote against the SLFP/UPFA and for the elephant. All I can do in the present circumstances is to tell Mrs Kumaratunga not to allow her personal hatred for me to blind her to the fact that she is a former leader of the party and co-Patron and sitting Central Committee of the SLFP and that she owes it to our members not to go around the world insulting and running down her own party.

Mahinda, Chandrika is the Governor appointed by the Indian Empire. SWRD was the first Governor of India. You were appointed by Indian Empire in 2005 by Indian colonial parasites abstaining from voting. Indian Empire enrolled Sarath in 2010. In 2015 Indian colonial parasites block vote selected Sirisena and Ranil.

Dear Mr.President do not worry nature will punish this ungrateful old one eyed thief for the things she does to our country and to it’s people. Who will tell anything good of her except her stooges and International masters. She will pay a price for what she did before and election time in Sri Lanka. She is a pain in the ass. Ignore her is the best thing to do because the citizens of this country knows her very well a traitor, coward and a thief.

Since many long time bloggers at LankaWeb have chosen to wear blinders, and both support and tolerate overt and covert Eelamists at LankaWeb who advocate DESTRUCTIVE violent approaches inimical to Sri Lanka, and beyond any doubt have helped to UNDERMINE and OUST Sri Lanka’s patriotic UPFA GoSL, I have decided to STOP WASTING my time at LankaWeb preaching to the blind and the deaf.

I returned to LankaWeb after the last time I quit to help the UPFA win the Parliamentary election. I will not return again to LankaWeb.

We agree with former President Mahinda Rajapakse. Dear MR, may you and yours be blessed for the honor, stability and good you have brought to Lanka.

CBK was so angered with the Sinhala people over the deaths of her Father and her Husband, that she punished the entire country and the people with her Sale of Lanka project during aftermath of the Cold War. The time of her rule of Lanka was a confusing and horrible time. She is inept and emotionally and damaged and not suitable to be a politician. She ought to leave politics for the safety of Lanka.

I am copying again something I wrote in earlier :

“In 1987 he (Vijaya Kumaratunge) supported the Indo-Lanka Peace accord and earned the wrath of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP). Defying death threats, he severely criticized its campaign of terror. On February 16, 1988 Vijaya Kumaratuga was gunned down outside his house in broad daylight by a gunman who had come on a motorcycle pillion”. Extract from article by Tassie Seneviratne.

The Indo-Lanka Accord (a misnomer, to say the least !) of 1987, brought in the 13-A with Tamil as an Official Language, complementing the Tamil Language (Special Provisions) Act of 1958, brought in by SWRD. These two pieces of legislation completed the hold of the Tamil Language in Lanka.

CBK has probably yet not realised that it were these two pieces of legislation that killed her Father and her Husband. Hence her ‘revenge’ on the Sinhala people and MR the Sinhala leader. She has carried on a hectic ‘divide & rule’ getting Pres Sirisena to go against the Law of the Land to create a clandestine Coalition Govt. CBK claims that she is the architect of the present Coalition GoSL, that is why we are holding her responsible for the present fiasco.

Those who assassinated her Father and her Husband were acting desperately to save their country – they were stupid and rash, yes, but the entire Sinhala Nation does not deserve the DEATH & DIVISION of their country. Millions should not pay for the ignorance of a few.

People even remotely connected to the two crimes in question should at least now apologise to her and lay these sad episodes to rest.

CBK must now realise why things happened the way they did. To CBK : Please do not wreck vengeance on the entire country and former President Mahinda Rajapakse and his groups, now. Try to remove the CAUSES that created the chaos. Then the country will thank you.

    Dear Mr. President (Mahinda Rajapakse),

We still consider you as the true leader and president of Sri Lanka – one who presides the hearts of and leads the (patriotic) Sri Lankans!

We appreciate you wholeheartedly because you are the only leader who withstood all the odds against you in defeating separatist terrorism in Sri Lanka and made it possible for everyone, including the politicians( Sinhala and Tamil) who are opposed to you, to move freely around the country without fear for for their lives.

We admire you for all the development works, that had been stagnant for over 35 – 40 years due to the dirty war (or on the excuse of the same), especially your vision in developing the remote areas other than that of only the big cities of Sri Lanka, done by your government during a short period in just 5 years after the end of war.

We respect you for being courageous and not losing your self esteem, and your steadfast devotion to you party even in defeats, despite those defeats were the results of backstabbing and conspiracies involving (supposedly) close associates and foreign elements.

Finally we regret your decision to have the Presidential election two years before it was due for if we had had you as the head of the country and government for that period we would sure to be able to see more good things done to the country and people.

I used the plural form ‘we’ for I am sure there are those who supported you in the two elections agree with me on the above points.

(I am a Sri Lankan Tamil, though presently not living in Sri Lanka)

  8. Fran Diaz Says:

Thank you for your sincere appreciation of (our true President) Mahinda Rajapakse, vyasan. We agree with you !

    ————-

We sincerely hope that the TRUE bottom line reason for our Sinhala & Tamil leaders getting assassinated over many decades, gets official attention.

The Tamil Language (Special Provisions) Act of Aug 1958, plus Tamil as an Official Language of Sri Lanka (included in the 13-A) together makes the Tamil Language virtually at par with the Sinhala Language. With FREE Education and FREE Health Care, Sri Lanka appears to have laid a red carpet welcome to illegal migrants from Tamil Nadu. There are some 15 MILLION TAMIL FOLK of Dalit origin who wants to leave Tamil Nadu. Good hearted (Aney Pauw), Sitting lame duck country, Sri Lanka, is just 12 nautical miles away. It all started with the notion that Crossing Sea Water loses Caste (see book ‘Sri Lanka through American Eyes’ – Ed. HAI Goonetilleke), and the “invitation to Tamil illegals” was complete. Vested interests are using the opportunity to gain control ….

    Break the deadly cycle !!

  9. Cerberus Says:

The one eyed bandit queen is bad luck for all right thinking people of Sri Lanka. She as a patron of the SLFP should NOT be batting for a UNP candidate. It is an act of treachery. She must immediately resign from the SLFP party or be removed. She is as bad as MY3 who left the party, ran for President then after he won became leader of SLFP but is batting for Ranil W and the UNP. What a pair!

CBK’S destroyed the Sinhalese, some of it quite inadvertently. First her father SWRD brought in Sinhala Language Act (1956) to make Sinhalese the Official language overnight. It was not a bad thing o the surface of things. But what it did was it gave Tamils and even Muslims freedom to choose the language of education while the Sinhalese HAD TO study all subjects in the Sinhala language. This would have been somewhat acceptable if there had been a great deal of preparation and entire libraries of translation done in many subjects into Sinhala language and new research made possible using the Sinhala language. But that was not so. It was Sinhala overnight, almost. People had no time to adapt to the new situation, both Sinhala people and others.

As a result our people, the Sinhalese, got handicapped. What made matters worse was that he then made Tamil a National language. Our children should have got a good grounding in Sinhala language with a strong knowledge of English also, so that they had access to the world of commerce and business.

When SWRD was assassinated by Somarama, his wife became Prime Minister and she made matters worse. With all the Marxist academics as her advisors such as NM Perera she brought the Land Reform Act (1972 ) which decimated the Sinhala land owners. Traditionally Sinhalese were not traders. They were mainly farmers and landowners. There was a good relationship between the villagers and the land owners with land owners looking after the villagers and vice versa. Many of the Sinhala landowners lost all they had and some of them committed suicide. It takes a long time to develop plantation estates and many of them had inherited the estates from their ancestors and had put in a lot of effort and money to develop them. The emotional attachments to their land and connections to the villagers were removed overnight. Overnight it was all taken away. The land owners no longer could support the villagers.

Net result was that the village youth felt unsupported and decided to revolt. The JVP launched a military type attack to take over power by force. Mrs. SWRD Bandaranaiyake should have at this point invited them for a discussion to look into their grievances. Instead she ordered the Military to kill JVP. The military and police were merciless. More than 60,000 Sinhala youth are estimated to have been killed. Many were completely innocent youth who were just rounded up by Military and asked to dig pits and then shot so that they fell into the pits which were covered up. The UNP came into power with Premadasa as President and he did the same. Ranil W was put in charge of the youth. He did not help the youth but set up Batalanda where either with his knowledge or without his knowledge JVP people were tortured and killed. Then when SLFP came into power and CBK became President with Ranil W as Prime Minister they bungled the entire military operations against the LTTE. She appointed her uncle as Minister for Defence and her nephew Rohan Daluwatte as the Military commander. This man had no military experience and would run off to see Sai Baba whenever there was trouble. She kept the war with LTTE dragging on and thousands of our Sinhala soldiers were brutally killed by LTTE. She had a preset idea that it was not possible to beat the LTTE along with Ranil W. Ranil W kept trying to hand over the North and East to appease Prabahakaran. He even stopped a crucial military operation in 2001 where the army knew the exact location of Prabahakaran and were ready to take him out. See http://www.lankaweb.com/news/items/2015/08/01/උතුරේ-එජාප-අපේක්ෂකයින්-ග/.

She recently in January engineered the downfall of the hero of the nation President Mahinda Rajapaksa by using the think tanks of the West and telling the people lies which have subsequently been proven to be baseless. She is so full of hatred and anger that it distorts her face where she looks like a Yakshani when she talks about MR. She may be harboring anger towards Sinhalese since her father and her husband were killed by Sinhalese. The Bandaranaiyake family has been a blot on the Sinhala people. It is a curse we have had to suffer for so long. CBK is a low class woman. As the Buddha said people are high born or low born not by birth but by their actions. Her actions are that of a very low class woman of low breeding. Every time she opens her mouth she shows her true nature. By her actions is she high born or low born? Tell me if I am wrong.
