Minister of Law and Order Tilak Marapana has tendered his resignation as a Cabinet Minister to President Maithripala Sirisena, a source confirmed.

The Law and Order Minister has also called an urgent press conference at his home at 10 a.m. to reveal his stance about his decision.

This came after several Cabinet Ministers and civil society leaders expressed their concern on Marapana’s recent statement regarding the Avant Garde armoury at the Parliament.

Since an investigation is underway about the Avant Garde issue, I have decided to tender my resignation,” Marapana who was the former Legal Advisor to the Avant Garde Security Service said.

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) also asserted it is preparing to table a motion of no-confidence against Tilak Marapana over the Avant-Garde issue.

Marapana at the Parliament said he believes the whole controversy surrounding the Avant Garde issue is a result of a lack of understanding regarding the floating armoury and police officers eager to gain points” with the new Government. I think the reason for such confusion is due to the lack of understanding regarding the floating armoury,” the minister of Law and Order said

A Logical explanation by one of the most educated lawyer to a hand full of uneducated journalists.
You need little bit of knowledge on maritime laws to follow this discussion fully.
Sirisena, Rajitha or Anura will never be able to understand the legality of the Avant Garde Security Service. It is beyond their educational capacity to grasp the fine details.

So this is why he is resigning NOT because of anything else. IF it is ILLEGAL as some in the UNP say, then it’s LEGAL ADVISOR must take blame for it. Now the govt. is in a soup.

Time to get rid of RUN-NIL and appoint a new PM.

Budget is coming up. DEFEAT it.

Mahendran should resign like Marapna without giving grief to the Public

Thilak Marapana did the right as a professional by resigning from his portfolio as the Law and Order Minister. We don’t know if he did it on his own accord or was he forced into resigning. If Marapana a former Defense Minister and Attorney General could have been forced to resign over an issue of conflict of interest why did the Prime Minister not do the same with the disgraced Governor Mahendran?

According to UNP sources the Prime Minister never made any effort to defend the veteran UNP stalwart Marapana who has helped the UNP on many fronts, by appearing gratis for the UNP. Marapana was credited for managing the transition for the UNP when President Premadasa was killed by a LTTE Bomber in 1993.

Sources say Arjuna Mahendran has done next to nothing for the UNP other than disgracing the government. What value has Singaporean Citizen Arjuna Mahendran brought to Sri Lanka ? The government recently borrowed 1.5 Billion Dollars at an unbelievable Rate of 6.875% the highest so far, doing far better than even Nivard Cabral.

Analysts are questioning whether this was another one of those Bonds that has nailed the country for good, while a few people made a killing ? Did Mahendren move out the Director Debt before hand to do this Dollar Bond ? The other issue Arjuna Mahhendran will be quizzed soon is whether he was aware of the ill-gotten deposits that were with the NBD bank, when he worked in the NBD Bank as the Private Bank Head ? We have reported over and over again the corrupt deals the Prime Minister’s cohorts are engaged in eg: investigate how racketeer Jehan Amaratunga got parts of the outcircular road? How come this man who was a front for Gamini Senerath and Mr Gotabaya Rajapakse is still on the People’s Bank Board and Chairman of People’s Insurance Company. So far no action has been forthcoming. Why Mr Prime Minister ? Over to you Mr President.
