This song was there sometime back. I was briefly in a Tamil school in Colombo and we sang that in 1990s. Some kids used to TWIST the verse SRI LANKA THAYE into THAMILELAM THAYE (mother Tamil Elam). Goes perfectly. The rest is valid for TE as well as SL.
ஸ்ரீ லங்கா தாயே is replaced by தமிழ் ஈழம் தாயே
The SL national anthem in Tamil (Sri Lanka Thaye ஸ்ரீ லங்கா தாயே) is very similar to the TAMIL NADU anthem (Thamil Thay vaalthu தமிழ் தாய் வாழ்த்து). Anyone can see where the govt. and PART of the country is going with this!!
NZ is a different case. Everyone agrees MAORIS are NATIVES and the ENGLISH are invaders. It is NOT the case in SL.
Now SLs will be divided into THOSE WHO SING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM IN SINGHALA and THOSE WHO SING IT IN TAMIL.
Yet another division.
The country is DIVIDED.

IF Tamils want to be part of SL, they had a MILLION reasons to do so. Singing national anthem in Tamil will not change ANYTHING. Soon all Tamil kids will be singing தமிழ் ஈழம் தாயே.

Sri Lanka Tamils have forgotten history. They condemn the Mahawamsa and come out with their own history of a Tamil Hindu Culture that existed even before the Sinhala. Dilrook has given the background to Tamil separatist movement. Terrorism was the culmination of that weird separatist Tamil history.
We should now forget the aggressive political movement of the Tamils starting with Ponnambalam Arunachalam and concentrate on Sri Lanka after the elimination of terrorism. It should not be giving into Tamil demands but bringing in Tamils to accept coexistence with other Communities. That could be done by respecting common National Institutions such as the National Anthem, Flag, law and order, and a common language. The barrier for this is the intervention of the USA, West and UN imposing the doctrine of separation. It is not by giving in that Tamils could be brought into the main political stream but by refusing to give in. It sounds unworkable… but what had been done so far to bring the communities together even by attempts at reconciliation has failed.

I don’t think PONNAMBALAMS at that time (NOT related to current Ponnambalam) were racists. They saved DSS, etc. from prison. But you never know.
You are right. Tamils live in SL as guests, unfortunately. They don’t like to take RESPONSIBILITY for anything.
I hope with increased travel, etc. Tamils come to realize Singhala people are EASY GOING AND CARING people. But once again Tamils have to be SAVED from Tamil politicians. Otherwise they will once again POISON their minds at a young age.

Chula from New Zealnd had said that he was moved when he heard the National Anthem was sung in Tamil. But how more moving would it have been if the National Anthem was sung by Tamils in Sinhala. That would be the delightful osmosis of two Communities becoming one in that movement of singing the National anthem together. That beauty of becoming one in everything we do together would be the most sacred and most moving of all acts that we should aim to achieve, and not sealing a difference between the two Communities doing everything separately as Tamils and Sinhalese.
I may go a step further and say that it would not be a bad idea to culminate our oneness even by encouraging intermarriages between the Tamils and Sinhala. It would not be possible with the Muslims as Muslims are not secular, deeply embedded in their religion, and relates every ting to Allah. They want the non Muslim partners to become Muslims.
But there is an unfortunate example that goes to show that intermarriages do not change the mental hatred of the Tamils towards Sinhala. The example is that of the two sons of Wigneswaran who have married Sinhala women- but Wigneswaran is the most rabid Tamil Racist ready even to rip open the Sinhala wombs. Wonder how he can look,at the faces of grand children with that boiling hatred in him ?

Tamil Leaders in Lanka lack PATRIOTISM TOWARD SRI LANKA. They are PATRIOTIC toward a mythical Eelam. to get Eelam through hook or by crook appears to be their main aim.

A number of Westernised Tamils (in Lanka and outside Lanka), are very emphatic about their PATRIOTISM toward BRITAIN, not Tamil Nadu. For them, EELAM in Lanka under Britain is the paradise found ! Why don’t such folk go and settle down in Britain ? Since they are a small number, that can be easily accommodated by the British authorities.
All we can say is that Tamil Leaders of Lanka who are misleading all Tamils of Lanka, most of the Tamils outside Lanka, and Tamils within TN of Dalit origin, are very confused and lost, and do not know where they belong. They are all banging on Lanka to deliver MOKSHA (Liberation) from their own confusion by somehow creating EELAM in Lanka in a Sirisangabo Syndrome Act (that is, the rest of Lanka has to die to deliver EELAM to Tamil Leaders !). Unfortunately, Sri Lanka and Sri Lankans are quite UNABLE TO DO SO, as that would be committing Suicide.
Lack of PATRIOTISM TO LANKA from Tamil Leaders the lead negative aspect here.

Thank you very much Lorenzo, for your very pertinent observations.
Charles, Viggie can look at the faces of his grand-children without any boiling hatred, because they are for all purposes Tamil and Hindu.
The matter however should be viewed differently. The question should be: how on earth could two leading Sinhala-Buddhist political figures have married off their daughters to this ‘most rabid Tamil racist’ Wigneswaran? They definitely knew they were creating two new Tamil-Hindu generations.
All this goes to show what Sinhala-Buddhism means even to such leading Sinhala-Buddhist personalities. It is all like the sprouting over of the soda bottle gaz.

A group of rehabilitated former LTTE cadres sang the Sri Lankan National Anthem in Sinhalese yesterday at a National Day function at Paranthan in Kilinochchi District.
Commanding Officer of the Civil Defence Force in Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu Colonel Rathnapriya Bandu organized this event, where several dozen LTTE cadres took part.
Meanwhile, the Tamil version of the National Anthem was sung at the main National Day event in Colombo.

If the LTTE cadres sang our national anthem in Sinhalese as Dham says is the best thing to do as Srilankans and as Srilankan citizens irrespective of race or color. There shouldn’t be two versions at all. Why we please the Tamils or any other by sacrificing our Sinhala culture. We have very few Tamils and we shouldn’t give everything they ask over passing all the rules and the majority wishes of the Sinhala nation.
They have to live side by side as Srilankans and take in both arms what ever the Sinhala rulers give to all citizens alike wthout demanding sun and the moon. They destroyed our land and killed our citizens in cold blood for thirty years.Except few others the rest were responsible for those deaths including Indian parasites who helped and gave sanctuary to those Tamil murderers. They are demanding the same thngs they fought for last thirty years. They live with hate and revenge in their hearts though they say NO. Sinhala nation is not for sale. The evil rulers must not cry too much on behalf of them instead rule the country without giving in to Tamils and to their friends demands and serve all citizens with one spoon. No need special treatment only to Tamils and Muslims. Solve the problems of the majority Sinhala first before serving others.Please the Srilankans before India and others. Do not be servants of the west and the Indian parasites. Evil rulers must stop bulling and harassing the Sinhalese and start serving all citizens alike.

This is an important issue and the Peon Sirisena and the Kankaani Ranil and the Govenor Chandrika should have put this as part of their policies at the elections.
Tamils are Tamils who went to tropical British Indian colonies of the British_Indian Empire like Malayalis, Gujaratis, Punjabis, Bengalis Sikshs etec etc. They are all Indian colonial parasites.

I think that the only way Tamil folk in Lanka, high & low caste, find common ground is ONLY through the TAMIL LANGUAGE and forming Eelam through even use of violence (Vadukoddai Resolution 1976). Otherwise, they would be at each others throats in hatred due to Caste troubles, as in Tamil Nadu.
Though personally I am of the opinion that there ought to be no Caste divisions in Lanka because in Lanka there are no Caste lines stamped on birth certificates, there certainly seems to be Caste differences still simmering.
Am I right here ?

there certainly seems to be Caste differences still simmering.- yes but not like in India because in Mother Lanka all of are educated (90% passed GCE O/L) so it is not major problem eg: VP is VVT Karayar caste .
high & low caste, find common ground is ONLY through the TAMIL LANGUAGE -partly agreed high caste want to keep a burning problem forever so that low caste won’t concentrate anything else even though high caste know TE is not posible in Sinhela Lanka (80% Bhuddist Sinhalese).
If high caste (English Educated- Chelava, GGP,Amirthalingam ,Sambanthan) are realy honest people They would not have asked TE instead they asked Sinhala teachers for every Tamil school in NEP & States from primary to high education.
