කිශානි ඔපෙරා වේ සොප්‍රාණෝ ක්රමයට දන්නෝ බුදුන්ගේ ගීතය ගැයීම ගැන හරි අල කලන්චියකි . රනිල් වික්‍රමසිංහ අවස්ථාවෙන් ප්‍රයෝජනය ගෙන දෙරණට තර්ජය කරය් . අප්පුඩි ගගහ ”බුධ්ධන් සරනං ‘ කියන රනිල් ට ඔනා බුදුදහමක් නැත කිශානි පැටලුනේ අනවශ්‍ය කරදරයකය ඇ ය තම දක්ෂතාවන් පෙන්නීමට නිදහස් උත්සවය තෝරා ගැනීමත් බෞද්ධ ගීතයක් යය හංවඩු ගැහුන ගීතයක් ගයීමත් අවුලට මුලය .විශාකාවේ ඉගෙන ගත්තත් ඉගෙන ගන්නේ ”අපේ උරුමය නොවේ .නාලන්දාවෙන් සරත් වී රසේකරලා බිහිවුනේ එක්කෙනෙක් පමණය ඒ , පාසල නිසා නොවේ ඔහුගේ සංසාර පුරුද්ද නිසාය . වත්මන් අධ්ධ්යාපන ක්‍රමය විසින් බෝ කරන්නේ අපේ උරුමයය වටහා ගත නොහැකි පිරිසකි ඉන් ගැලවෙන්නේ අතලොස්සකි
1920 දී හියුබට් රාජපක්ෂ ගැයූ ”ධර්මා බුදුන්ගේ ”’ ගීතයේදී ඔහු”’ රහතුන්ගේ ”යන වචනය ශබ්ද කරන්නේ ””ර් රහතුන්ගේ ”යනුවෙන් බරදමාය ඒ ගායනය ඔපෙරා විදිහටය . රුක්මනී ”’සීලේනී බන්දා ” යන්න ”’ භන්ධා ” යනුවෙන් කියය් . බෙග් ට එහි වචන ශබ්ද කිරීමට බැරිය අමරදේව හා නන්දා මාලිනි නම් අපට හුරු විදිහටගායනා කර ඇත .එහෙත් ඒවා එදා විවේචනය වුයේ නැත . රනිල් බලයේ සිටින විට රට ගෙන යන්නේ කොහිදය් දන්නා පිරිස කලබල වුයේ නිදහස් උත්සවයේදී තම ප්‍රියතම බොදු ගීයක් මෙසේ විදේශීය ක්රමයට ගැයුණු නිසාය .””.අපි ආසියාතික මානසිකත්වයෙන් මිදිය යුතුය”’ කියන එකෙක් සිංහල රටේ නායකයා වූ විට කලබල නොවන්නේ කවුද .. රනිල් ගේ පැටිකිරිය නොදන්නේ කවුද අපි . බටහිර ගැ ති විය යුතු යය් ඔහු නොකියා කියය් සිරිසේන උන්නැහේ මඩු වල්ගය අතට ගතයුත්තේ රනිල්ටය

බිරිතානි විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයක ඉගන ගන්න ගිය මම වසර විස්සක් පමන එහි ජීවත් උනත් එක් වරක් පමනය් ඔපෙරාවක් බලල තියෙන්නෙ. ඉතින් ක්‍රිෂානි කියන ගායිකාව ඔපෙරාවට දක්‍ෂයෙක්ද නැද්ද කියන්න තරම් ඔපෙරා ගැන දැනුමක් හෝ රසස්වාදයක් මට නැහැ. ලංකාවෙ ගමක උපන් මට නම් හිතෙන්නෙ සංඛ කියපු කතාව නිවැරදිය කියලය්.
ඔපෙරා ක්රමයට කිෂාණි කියන්නෙ මොනවද කියලවත් ඔපෙරා ක්රමයට මේ ගීතය කියනවට අාවඩන අගමැති වගේ කොලොමබියන්ල දන්නවද කියන එකත් මට නම් සැකය්. එ් අස්සෙ සම හරක් කියනව ‘දන්නෝ බුදුන්ගේ’ ගීයෙ තනුව අාර්. වැග්නර්ගෙ කොපියක්ලු එනිසා බෞද්ධ ගීතයක් නෙවෙයිලු.
මගෙ අදහස නම් කිෂානි වගේ දක්‍ෂ උගත් අය තැනේ හැටියටයි අැනේ ගහන්න ඔනෙ. එ් කියන්නෙ ‘දන්නෝ බුදුන්ගේ’ ගීතය නැතුව වැග්නර් ගෙ ගීතයක් කියල උච්ච ස්වරයෙන් හරි ඔිින ලතෝනියකින් හරි ඔින මගුලක් නැටුව නම් ඉවරනෙ.

As I said before I did eastern music for O/L exam.
Only Sinhala music we learned was Makuloluwa’s book. It has ZERO enjoyable songs, only Jana-gee.
As a nation, can we be proud of Hela music ?
Be honest. Even Jothipala, Beg did a great service to music. My teacher composed first for Jothipala to avoid copying hindi songs. By 1973 I did not like Baila but even MS Fernando etc contributed to Sri Lankan music well.
“බෙග් ට සිංහල සින්දු කිව්වායය් කියා පුරවසිකමද දුන්නේයමේ එහෙව් රටකි” is a very hateful statement. I feel very sad knowing how he died. He sang Buddhist songs in a unique strong voice.
If you want to force music to people to protect “Sinhalaness” you will go nowhere.

රනිල් පසුගියදා පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේදී එකත් පසඟලා, ටයිපටයක් පටලවා ගෙන. කෝට් එකේ දපලු ඇරගෙන, බඩ නෙරාගෙන, දෑසින් වෛරය පිටකරමින්. සුනිල් පෙරේරා “පිටිකොටපන් නෝනේ” ගැයූ අයුරින් තප්පු ගසමින් පන්සිල් ගනිමින් බුද්ධ ධර්ෂරණය අවමානයට ලක් කල පාපයට ගොඩොල් බාගයක් නොව ගඩොල් පෝරනුවකට අන්තර්ධාන වන්නේද?

Dharme are you referring to Governor of the day Madam Chandrika Bandaranayake-Kumaranatunga as the English Queen of Sri Lanka?
Sanka made a great mistake when he talked about villagers throwing half a brick at a screaming cat. This is an English saying. There were no bricks or half bricks in the villages I knew. They all had mud houses with thatched roofs.
Villagers did not disturb animals screaming while having sex. They themselves enjoyed sex while the animals did and there were more babies in the village after a few months of the little animals.
Opera is Italian.
Amaradhewa’s and Nandhaa’s so called Sinhala songs are in fact Indian veiling songs. A part of the Indian hegemony.
I am proud of our Opera girls and I salute her for singing in Sinhala.

Christie…. before degrading Maestro Amaradeva and Nanda Malini, you got to understand what music is and also what Sinhala music is. Sinhala music is mainly ”Folk Music” and it was musicians like Pundit Amaradeva who pioneered the modern Sinhala music.
Your comment is an absolute insult to all Singhalese. I understand your opposition to India and I am with you on that. But insulting those icons of our culture is a BIG NO.

I remember a concert organised in Peradeniya Uni around 1966. All the popular singers like Amaradeva, Sananth Nandasiri, MS Feranando et al were there. The gym was packed with students. The only singer that did not get hooted out was MS Fernando. Others could not complete their songs. I can still remember the frustration that was there in Amaderadeva’s face. When ever I hear his ‘hantane’ song f I get reminded of that incident.
This has become our culture. You need to give a good ‘daham pasal’ teaching to our children to understand tolerance at their young age.

බුදු ගුණ ගීත ගැයිය යුත්තේ unic strong voice එකකින් නොව නිවුන ස්වරයෙනි . රැ කියාවට බොදු ගී ගැයීම ත් රැකියාවට තෙදලුකඩා රටට සේවය කිරීම වාගෙමය පෙනුමෙන් වැඩදායකය එහෙත් රටට අවසානයේ අවැඩ ක්මය අමරදේව සුභාවිතයෙන් අපේ උරුමය සොයා යායුතුය ඒ සඳහා ඔහුට හැකියාවක් ඇත අවශ්ශ්‍යකමක් තිබේ නම් .

I wish to deviate from the ‘opera theme’ a bit and stress the importance of education in a good school. It was to Vishaka that I took my daughter for ‘sunday daham pasala’ It gave her a good understanding of our religion and culture. While returning to the car from the class she wouldn’t allow her mother to pick a fifty cent coin on the road saying ” it is not yours, drop it drop it”. Today she is reaping the benefits of that education, in a western country. Patients would bypass their own senior doctors to come to her. Those who come couple of times would come with bouquets next time and the employers are happy to reward her as they get more patients. A dime one would earn this way is worth more than a million earned unethically like some of those GMOA type at home. I therefore urge the SL parents to give a good religious education to their children in their young age. They would reap the benefits in their later life.

Blaming GMOA is WRONG. They are doing a GREAT SERVICE to SL than those who have got education in SL and treating patients abroad. FEW GMOA registered doctors are BAD. That is NOT GMOA’s fault.
GMOA is the BEST group of SLs to stand against the ENDIAN INVASION (ETCA). We should all praise them for the good work.
Today GMOA has become a big headache to the ENDIAN UNP JUNTA because their beloved ENDIAN INVASION (ETCA) is disrupted.
CENTRAL BANK crooks (between a man and his son in law) robbed over 500 million rupees in 2015 in the FAMOUS BOND FRAUD.

This is why I say, we Sinhalese should be upright. In Karaniya Metta Sutta , qualifications have been given to make a good human being.
“skilled , upright (ඌජූච) , very upright (සූජූච), gentle (මුදු) , not conceited or stupidly proud (අනතිමානි) ”
These are the qualities that can win the world.
who has the greatest opportunity to learn this from very young ?
Sinhala people and Sinhala Bauddhya more particularly.

I agree. ස්වර = Sa, Ri , Ga ..Ma. Pa.. Dha . Ni.. ( Hindustan). .
තනුව of the song determines the “feelings” it produce. For example composition of ස්වර of යමන් රාගය gives rise to භක්ති or devotion.
Singer did not change the තනුව ( composed using ස්වර) . Therefore if the original song had නිවුන ස්වර , they were kept.
Any musician who is not familiar with Sri Lankan politics would agree that the feelings are not changed by singing it is opera style but feelings are even more enhanced. It is pure politics that this whole incident was created and the poor singer victimised.

Fyi, my daughter got paid education in SL and abroad and only sunday school free. Do not try to score brownie points by praising GMOA. Whole of SL knows that they are a selfish and unethical lot that strikes at the drop of a hat putting the lives of poor patients at risk. On the ‘Endian’ affair not only GMOA all Sinhalese are with the so called opposition.

Its not just education that goes into educating someone. Country pays ALOT MORE for a person to get an education even if the studies and schools are paid.
e.g. Students of international schools derive so much from SL. That is why they are NOT studying in a school in Madras for instance.
GMOA does strike on average 8 days a year. But they SERVE poor SL people for 357 days!!
So you cannot compare that with someone (me for instance) who does NOT serve SL patients even for 8 days!!
GMOA is the first organization to formally oppose ENDIAN INVASION (ETCA). Now others have joined in. We should PRAISE GMOA for that.
Never forget ALL GMOA doctors CAN go to UK, etc. for HIGHER PAY. But they have sacrificed that for SL’s poor patients. A NOBLE quality LACKING among medical professionals the world over.

Not true on 70% od them. I know too many doctors well. Those who don’t go are either corrupt or incompetents. Only 30% good and 70 % of them are there because of husbands and children.

But we have a long way to go. The last ten years or so was a minor abheration in our long history. May be it will be corrected soon. We do not have a problem where ever we go in the world. Buddhism will be respected more in the world if our leaders behave well.

Even if it is for wife, family, etc. or because they can’t they still serve SL. Saving a LIFE is a MASSIVE thing. CURING a person or an animal is also a HUGE thing. Its not everyday they operate the wrong side of the chest or cut the hand for a mosquito bite. We must appreciate their service. Not the best but worthwhile.
When Endian doctors come to SL female patients will die in thousands (as happens in Endia) as they fear abuse at the doctor.

For our country to earn respect around the world, there is no point saying “we are Buddhists” but we should behave like Buddhists , setting examples to the world.
The best opportunity came in mid 2009 for a new start. It was wasted.

Not knowing much about music I would not venture to defend pro Opera or anti opera style of singing old songs. But I too had a hand in organzing a new year event once in late nineties where we had a fine contribution from a girl who sang ‘Roo Rese Andina Lesay’ in opera style. I admired and applauded the effort from her and her parents who had devoted many hours to train a girl who grew up in London, and practiced the best of Western classical styles.
However the reception from the audience was mixed. Similar fate befell Amaradeva when he sang ‘Viraha Gee’ at the Peradeniya campus in mid sixties. Taste in music is acquired as in other fields of human endeavor and one must encourage those who venture and experiment with a certain amount of respect.
