Withdrawal of 50 well-trained army personnel from the security detail of the former President has placed his life in danger, Media Secretary to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa says.
Issuing a statement today (02), Roahan Welivita said 50 army personnel assigned for the security detail of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa have been withdrawn, today.
Instead, Police personnel were assigned but they are not trained on VVIP security. Mahinda Rajapaksa is under a life threat who defeated the world most powerful LTTE terrorist organization and this is the view of security experts too.
This has been understood even by the general public. Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa is the only living Leader in the world who defeated a powerful terrorist organization. Therefore it is the public opinion that Mahinda Rajapaksa should be given proper military protection. Withdrawal of 50 well-trained army personnel has placed the life of former President in danger.”
He also pointed out it is the duty of the Government to provide sufficient military protection to safeguard the life of Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Why has the protection to the former Pres Mahinda Rajapakse been changed from the Army to the Police ?
Who is responsible for doing this ?
The Commander in Chief of the SL Army is Pres Maithripala Sirisena.
Doesn’t make sense to us, when at this point in time, the ex-LTTE cadre have been active in the North. We think that if any change has to happen, then BOTH Army & Police ought to provide security to former President Rajapakse.

This is a move to constrain and restrict Mahinda’s activities by placing his security at risk. Furthermore, the Yamapalana Govt does not trust the Army that was enabled to perform as National Heroes by Mahinda and they want a more pliable Police under their thumb ready to follow their future orders agains Mahinda …whatever they may be.

The Yamapalana Govt does not realize that by placing Mahinda’s life and limb at risk, their own lives and limbs will be placed at risk.
There is no other political leader more loved and respected than Mahinda, those who want to hurt him are self-destructive.

Political fools in charge of Lanka – they seem to want to sell off Lanka to foreign countries, preferably to ex-Colonists. RW/CBK are Anglophiles, and not much else. MS seems to take orders from CBK …. and CBK appears to take orders from ex-Colonists & neighborhood bullies. RW is politcally ‘married’ to the C’wealth only.
