Where are we heading to?  Can’t we all look back?

V.Anandasangaree Secretary General- TULF

Our country is undergoing untold hardships politically, economically and due to National calamities off and on. We faced big crises in the government and is just limping back with hopes for a better future. Months back everyone felt that it is the bounden duty of every citizen of this country to redeem it from the crisis it faced, without showing any animosity based on ethnicity or religion or political grounds. I may be permitted to say that the government that started with great enthusiasm has now deteriorated to the extentof losingthe characteristics of a national government or a coalition government.I am not at all surprised that the government is losing its strength day by day, as a government for good governance.

Our country is not the one that the people expected it to be. There are several divergentforces working against one another, within the government. It is hard to identify as to who is who and what is what in the government. Only in name this is MaithripalaSrisena’s government with Hon.RanilWickramasinghe as Prime Minister. Ministers in the government condemn each other, some even the Prime Minister.  How can one call it a National government or  acoalition government or even a government of good governance.

The TULF is a very senior Tamil Political Party and a moderate one, absolutely committed to nonviolence. How did the TULF fail to be a part of the government, only avery few know it. The TULF faced the 2004 general elections with a full set of candidates. What happened at this election, how the TULF faced a stunning defeat, how the ITAK usurped the position held by the TULF in the TNA and won all the 22 seats, whether genuinely or fraudulently and whether any action legal or otherwise was taken to set the record straight, are all now forgotten. The International Community fully backed by the diaspora had been made to believe that the democratic process did not failat the 2004 general election. Although this story may be a fiction for the others, as far as the TULF, its supporters and those strictly committed to democratic norms are concerned, all these are true and democracy, as far as the Tamils are concerned, completely got buried in Sri Lanka at the 2004 general election. Most Tamils all over the world genuinely feel that the government’s failure to bring the TULF back into the democratic process is a gross betrayal of the trust the Tamils placed on the government of Sri Lanka. The governments conduct appears to be trying to conceal the most undemocratic manner the TNA, which infactis the ITAK, won all the 22 seats at the 2004 general election. The democracy that derailed in 2004 has not got back on the proper track

The TULF was not founded by Tom Tick and Harry. It was the creation of most prestigious leaders of the Tamil community at that time, people like the  late S.J.V.Chelvanayagam Q.C,  the late G.G.Ponnambalam Q.C, Eminent Lawyers like the late Mr.A.Amirthalingam and the late Mr. M.Sivasithambaram  and left as a legacy for the Tamil people to look after all their problems. I have a sacred duty to safeguard it and bring the TULF back to its past glory. Unfortunately the present Government has, knowingly or unknowingly, given recognition to the party that did not strictly function as a democratic one and also further committed by appointing, as the leader of the opposition, a person who was responsible for destroying the major democratic party that had 14 seats in the Parliament, with the help of a group committed to nonviolence.

The intension of the TULF is not to en-throne or de-throne any person or any political party. Our grievance is that the failure of the authorities to recognize or to save a genuine democratic party, in preference to a party that gained power by adopting unfair methods, including fire power and violence. Although belated I call upon everybody, the government and the opposition in Sri Lanka and the International Community to help to restore proper democracy in Sri Lanka and help to rewrite the recent history, recorded with great bias. Until this is achieved Sri Lanka will neither have a properly constituted National Governmentnor a Coalition Government and never a Government of good Governance.

This government has a lot to learn from national disasters, which in my opinion come either as messages or warnings to get alerted. We missed the opportunity that came with the tsunami in 2004. I hope atleast the present disaster that we are facing today is a lesson for us to learn to be honest in dealing with our problems including the ethnic issue. I request the Government and opposition to get united in vital issues and bring peace and tranquility to an ailing nation, for which the TULF will give its unstinting support. If we don’t mend our ways mother nature will do it for us.

  1. Ratanapala Says:

TULF is not a party committed to non- violence.

For example Amirthalingam’s wife wanted to bathe in Sinhala Blood and make shoes out of Sinhala skins. They are the ones that came with the Vadukkodai Declaration – literally a call to arms by the TULF leaders. They got their just desserts at the hands of the very racist monsters they created and unleashed into the Indian RAW. For years during LTTE days Ananda Sangaree played during tune getting all the protection he needed from the Sri Lanka Armed Forces and thereby saved his life from Poopaharan.

Immediately after war the tune went back to Federalism but by then he had no following, TNA having taken over the Tamil electorate.

Now he is crying foul like the proverbial cat that crapped on a rock and a hard place.

  2. Ananda-USA Says:

The very name “Tamil United Liberation Front” of Anandasangaree’s party says it all.

It is COMMUNAL because it stands for the rights of TAMILS only.
His heroes are the ARCH COMMUNALISTS CHELVANAYAGAM and PONNBALAM!

It is TREASONOUS because it espouses LIBERATION of Tamils from the rest of Sri Lanka.

When this man is willing to JETTISON his communal affiliation with Tamil Liberation goals and objectives he may deserve our sympathy.

Until then, he remains, like his party a communal demagogue who has lost a battle for dominance with militant former separatists who supported the LTTE to the hilt.

Till then, he is no democrat deserving our sympathy; he is merely a wailing hypocrite that failed to rally the separatists under his banner!

A pox on Anandasangaree’s and his sheepskin!

Colombo’s pompous ‘Vesak’ in North endorsed by India, while celebrations cancelled in South
    [TamilNet, Saturday, 21 May 2016, 23:20 GMT]

Colombo’s occupying Sinhala military has launched 7-day-long Buddhist Vesak celebrations from Saturday in the country of Eezham Tamils while Vesak festivities have been called off in the South where at least 73 people have been killed in landslides caused by torrential rains and more than 200,000 have fled their homes in recent days. The genocidal military and the State have transformed Vesak celebrations as ‘Sinhala Buddhist victory’ over Tamils after the 2009 onslaught. The added feature this time is the open and official endorsement given by New Delhi to the genocide gesture. In its over-enthusiasm to counter Tamils marking Mu’l’livaaykkaal Genocide Day on 18 May, the SL military advertised ‘very pompous celebrations’ of Vesak in Tamil newspapers, inviting the Tamils in Jaffna to take part in their celebrations.

An advert published by the SL Military ‘Security Forces Jaffna’ inviting the public to take part in ‘very pompous’ taking place for 7 days in Jaffna starting from 21 May at Veampadi lane and at the grounds close to the Public Library in Jaffna. The letters in bold convey that food would be served on Saturday and Sunday
Grand scale Vesak celebrations are being staged in all the military camps, in the city of Jaffna and in all other towns in the Northern province.

Sources close to the SL military in Jaffna said that the Sinhala soldiers were given ‘ministerial’ instructions from Colombo to grandly celebrate Vesak at more than 900 Buddhist temples that are newly built in the vicinity of the military cantonments and camps in the five districts of the province.

The Sinhalese students at the university of Jaffna were also promoting Vesak celebrations within the university premises as was seen never before. The University administration was also instructed to issue greetings on its website, informed academic sources said.

Similar instructions were also given to the Eastern University in Batticaloa and to the Trincomalee campus, the sources further said.

The venue of SL military Vesak festivities close to Jaffna Public Library. The legend in the arch, erected by the genocidal military, ironically says: “Buddha protects even in Jaffna peninsula”.

The SL Colonial Governor of North, Mr Reginald Cooray, a Sinhalese Catholic, who has been openly advocating the controversial Buddhist vihara projects at Nayinaa-theevu and at Kokku’laay, was recently talking about the possibility of Buddhist monks considering the chanting of Buddhist spiritual ‘Pirith’ in Tamil in the future. Cooray was describing such a ‘gesture’ as a ‘reconciliation’ effort.

Indian Consulate General, SL Colonial Governor and SL Government Agent of Jaffna District were the special guests in the SL military Vesak celebrations in Jaffna on Saturday staged near the public library

The invitation issued in Tamil in Colombo for the ‘National Hindu Buddhist Conference’ held on 14 May 2016 by Indian-linked outfits operating from Colombo
On Saturday night, Indian Consulate General in Jaffna Mr A. Natarajan and the SL Government Agent of Jaffna District Mr N. Vethanayahan accompanied the SL colonial governor to North as special guests at the SL military organised celebrations held at Muththave’li near the Public Library of Jaffna.

Last week, ‘Hindu’ organisations of North Indian connections, operating in Colombo, convened a so-called ‘National’ Hindu-Buddhist Conference in association with Sri Lanka Buddhist Congress.

While Colombo’s Buddhist institutions are making an open and naked genocidal approach in land-grab and construction of stupas in the country of Eezham Tamils, the conference was seen as a deception. It was chaired by an Indian-connected businessman and participated by Vishva Hindu Parishad and Ramakrishna Mission in Colombo.

The conference and the official endorsement given by New Delhi’s diplomat in Jaffna to Vesak celebrations in the North show open endorsement to the genocidal approach taken by Colombo towards the nation of Eezham Tamils in the island, commented Tamil academic circles in Jaffna.
