Sri Lanka’s Minister of External Affairs Mangala Samaraweera confirmed that video evidence of war time atrocities committed by Sri Lanka’s armed forces was true.
Lamenting the Mahinda Rajapaksa’s dismissal of the video evidence, Mr Samaraweera said,
Instead, laughably, you gave it to forensic experts hired by the Defence Ministry in order to disprove the footage’s authenticity. In fact, according to the information we have the video footage is not only authentic but was given to Channel 4 by members of the armed forces who themselves were deeply shocked at some of the acts carried out as a result of orders from above.”
Sri Lanka’s current president Maithripala Sirisena is yet to accept the No Fire Zone documentary evidence, which was made available in SInhalese, as fact.
In an open letter to former Sri Lanka president Mahinda Rajapaksa, Sri Lanka’s Minister of External Affairs Mangala Samaraweera said that ‘credit for winning the war must go to the security forces’ adding that ‘Prime Minister Ranil Wickrememsinghe was the mastermind’ for the defeat of the Liberation Tamil Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

Mangala Samaraweera went on to add that the UNHRC resolution could e used to set up a mechanism that will fully clear the good name of the members of the army and all those against whom there are unfair allegations. True war heroes, as Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka has said, have nothing to fear from this transitional justice process.”

Mangala Samaraweera went on to provide a point by point rebuttal of Mahinda Rajapaksa’s recent statement against the UNHRC resolution on accountability and reconciliation in Sri Lanka.

Has Mangala finally flipped his lid or is he being strongly persuaded by the West to take a certain stance on the issue of war crimes?

There were so much cruelty that was done by LTTE to the Sinhalese who tried their best to accommodate them. I cannot understand why even President Mahinda Rajapakse delayed looking into these matters. He spent so much effort to try and make the Tamils happy in the North and East. I guess he thought he could get their vote and international approval. It just shows how out of touch our people are with Tamils.

Right through the fighting in the North and East there were observers from UNO and also the US and UK embassies had staff who were in constant communication with all the players. It is also true that USA helped Sri Lanka in identifying and destroying the 12 ship loads of LTTE arms. Yet at the same time they did not want the LTTE supremo to be eliminated !! I believe all these countries wanted the war to drag on so that they could keep selling arms to all the players ? I believe it is the same reason that both CBK and RW did not conclude the war expeditiously ? Or was it that the duplicate Prabhakaran would have been, perhaps, discovered ? It was in the internet that the SL Navy personnel observed that the real LTTE Chief was carried away in the Tsunami of Dec 2004 when he was in a church by the East Coast sea on Boxing Day (day after X’mas).

When the SLFP came into power and CBK became President with Ranil W as Prime Minister, they bungled the entire military operations against the LTTE. She appointed her uncle Anuruddha Ratwatte as Secretary for Defence and her nephew Rohan Daluwatte as the Military commander. Rohan had no military experience and would run off to see Sai Baba in South India whenever there was trouble. She kept the war with LTTE dragging on and thousands of our Sinhala soldiers were brutally killed by LTTE. See article http://www.lankaweb.com/news/items/2015/04/08/how-chandrika-won-the-war-exposing-lies-part-1/

CBK also had a preset idea that it was not possible to beat the LTTE along with Ranil W. There was a Commission appointed to look into bribery by her uncle Ratwatte. When they started hearings, he had a heart attack and died so the case was cancelled.

Ranil W kept trying to hand over the North and East to appease Prabahakaran. He even stopped a crucial military operation in 2001 where the army knew the exact location of Prabahakaran and were ready to take him out. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZWO5fWDikQ

During my school days, we Sinhalese, Burgers, Tamils, Muslims and others mixed freely and did not possess any racist animosities against each other, and we were broad minded enough to occasionally direct/accept innocent banter against each other with jovial statements like
“Sinhalaya Modaya Kavun Kanna Yodaya” or “Thambige Thoppiya Bambuwa wage, Thambi natanakota, sembuwa wage” or “Lansi kakula, banku kakula, mama yana kota mesa kakula”, or “demala demalamai, thelen baddath demalamai” etc. At the time we took these up in good humour, as it was just fun to annoy each other.
However, today we see some of this banter being real and people like Mangala Samaraweera, if his acceptance of CH-4 fiction against Sri Lankan forces have been reported correctly, then, he is a prime candidate to be a “Sinhalaya Modaya …………..” unless of course he is saying these things under some kind of pressure applied on him by powerful forces or he is trying to cover up something for some reason. I cant see any other reason for him to accept such a distorted “documentary” which some say the original version had Tamil speech and some men wearing rubber slippers or bare footed quite unlike soldiers, indicating it was either created subsequently by the separatists or the Tamil Tigers themselves committed these crimes on their unfortunate prisoners and blamed the armed forces, as they always did.
