Impeach Mangala Samaraweera for treason & violation of the Constitution

Apropos to Dayan Jayatilake’s Why Mangala must exit……” in what he calls a ‘Mexit’ moment the suggestion is both valid and timely. The Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka must be change. In fact he should be impeached for treason and violation of the countrys constitution. He is like a loose cannon and has been making statements and decisions at diplomatic levels contrary and conflicting with what the Head of State has assured the nation. Some of these statements border on treason and immediately calls for action by a government that came to office on the assurance of good governance. The proof is now in the pudding and both the President & the Prime Minister are advised that a ‘stitch in time saves nine’ applicable in particular to the Foreign Minister who serially suffers an ailment of bringing people to power and with that same vigour removing them from office. Neither the President nor the Prime Minister would want to fall prey as previous others have.

The Foreign Minister has neither electoral clout nor public backing. He is following a very dangerous agenda that is likely to affect the political stability of the country.  We have to now wonder whether the co-sponsorship of the US-UK Resolution of 2015 was a personal decision making or whether it did have the nod of approval by both the President & the PM. If not this adds another reason for his impeachment. He is now advocating how powers of the Indian Ocean are to be distributed – all these are beyond his mandate and he has no business to be making statements that affect the entire country.

The island nation is not the personal property of the foreign minister.

We cannot agree to a Foreign Minister who compromises the national sovereignty of the country. He is not paid to be shaking hands and forging deals that win him personal accolades at the cost of the nation and its armed forces. While he is welcome to solicit western patronage for personal endeavors it cannot be at the cost or at the expense of the nation’s integrity and by undermining the magnanimous achievements of our heroic armed forces. Even the diplomatic community are laughing at the manner the current foreign ministry is functioning under the foreign minister reducing diplomats into minions and peons.

The world is viewing chaos, divisions, terror and mayhem at such a time even small nations like ours can play a role no different to the memorable foreign policy of the late Mrs Sirimavo Bandaranaike who to this day is spoken of fondly by both the East and the Western bloc. She was able to balance politics of both spheres of influence and not bow down to or appease to any foreign power or pressure. This was non-alignment at its best and since other than late Mr. Lakshman Kadiragamar all others have been miserable failures.

The President of Sri Lanka has been repeatedly assuring the nation that there would be no foreign judges albeit there should be no war crimes tribunals at all and anyone reading the 5 legal opinions of the international legal luminaries tasked to assess the conflict have legally shown that the armed forces of Sri Lanka have not committed any war crimes to hold any war crimes tribunal against them. Therefore the stand the government of Sri Lanka needs to take is that Sri Lanka has not committed war crimes and therefore no such tribunals are necessary. Individual cases of soldier malpractice can if evidence are produced be tried in a military court as done in all countries. It is a very simple solution and avoids unnecessary cost and time as can be seen by the failures of all the tribunals that the UN has implemented.

The Foreign Minister’s close association with the LTTE Diaspora is another reason for his impeachment. Let us remind all that until and unless the TNA is investigated for links to the LTTE as well as the LTTE fronts that have been named under UNSC 1373 no country and the GOSL cannot enter any agreement with them. If the US has laws to indict individuals or organizations for material support to terrorism the TNA and the foreign based LTTE fronts named by the UNSC Resolution 1373 need to be investigated FIRST (even the ones whose names have been removed by the Foreign Minister)

Let us also remind the Sri Lanka populace of the 2013 Singapore Principles where the present Foreign Minister agreed with the TNA on a conceptual framework based on which the changes currently taking place are aligned. The TNA demands for confederation is in line with their ultimate aim to separate from Sri Lanka and the build up to that are the calls for demilitarization, colonization of Sinhalese and now the attacks on Sinhala students at the University of Jaffna with the intent of transferring them to another university even Sinhalese pilgrims and their buses have been attacked – of course the international and local media choose to follow the monkey no see, no talk, no hear policy. All these promises assured in 2013 by the foreign minister are slowly coming into reality.

The nature of the UNHRC and its biased stand not to mention the illegalities and irregularities within the halls of the UN calls to mind the manner the present UNHRC head is behaving. His last statement called to ‘rein in the armed forces’ – is he comparing our armed forces to horses on the loose! In another occasion he even insulted our judiciary calling them incompetent. The lack of diplomatic response in calling UNHRC head to apologize and explain has encouraged him to produce more disparaging statements to which the foreign minister’s un-nationalist behaviour is adding further salt and pepper.

The world has been fooled. The people have been fooled. The 9/11 disclosures and the Chilcot Report clearly indicates that the Gulf Wars and invasions in Afghanistan have been built on lies and without reason. Hundreds of thousands of innocent people have died as a result since 1991 and today the Middle East is in flames. We do not wish to have any more bloodshed. We have gone through 30 years of terror and the UN and so-called international community did not enter the scene to stop LTTE terror. They have entered after the LTTE was vanquished and are crying over the last few months and counting the dead when they ignored all the tears and suffering by those that the LTTE killed including unarmed, injured soldiers while over 5000 of them are still missing. We don’t need such a UN to be preaching to us and no countries that have bombed nations on lies can bring resolutions against us while using veto powers in the UN to ensure inaction against their favourite countries. This is not justice that people expect of the UN. Our diplomats are doing nothing to counter the LTTE lobby that is influencing the US congress, US state department and even within the halls of the UN. Our foreign missions have failed to protect the sovereignty and national security of the country because the foreign minister stands as an obstacle.

We have come to a point where we must stand and say that we will not be party to alienating, antagonizing or provoking any country because it meets the agendas of a handful of countries that our foreign minister is striking personal accords with. None of our historical friends can become enemies simply because ‘new friends’ have entered the scene. We have ridiculed our historical friends and thereafter discovered that the ‘new friends’ have nothing in their kitty to give and we have shamelessly ended up going behind the friends we have ridiculed. This is not diplomacy.

The Foreign Minister must be impeached and removed from office. He is not fit to function in his role. This country is not the personal property of any politician or political party that comes into power for a TERM of office. The President, PM, Wigneswaran, Sambanthan, Anura Kumara, C Ranawaka or even Mahinda Rajapakse cannot agree to divide the nation under any terminology or dictum used to fool the masses. We abhor British imperialism but we respect the manner that the British leaders have honoured the will of the people. We may not like the politics of David Cameron but following the Brexit vote he honourably resigned and this is a magnanimous gesture and one to be applauded.

Look around the world and see the bloodshed taking place. We want no more. We must all stand up and not allow any of these vile politicians coming into the political scene to destroy the planet in the manner that they are behaving.

Our children deserve a happy and undestructive future and to enable this each of us must stand up and say NO to the politics of treachery that is taking place and these devious steps being followed by a handful of politicians must be stopped. The world does not need such people any more. We need peace and we need policy and we need people with integrity and public interest to rule. We do not need any more traitors in office.

Avamangala needs a country of his own to rule and drive into the dirt!

I propose that the UK & USA pupeteers appoint their Sri Lankan puppet as the Raja of Diego Garcia!

As a man trained in textile design, he can spin his web of deceit to the British and American military personnel on that desolate island, and leave our motherland to its PATRIOTS!

Good RIDDANCE to bad RUBBISH, I say!

This Matara ponnaya is a public nuisance and a health hazaard. Best we exterminate the serial pest ASAP.

Apropos to Dayan Jayatilake’s “Why Mangala must exit……”- who is talking , Dayan can you remember your 13A promised to UN ??

  4. Ratanapala Says:

What is surprising is the role of the so called United Opposition. What Shanali is bringing forth should have been observed by those in the United Opposition right at the very start when Avamangalaya rushed off to Geneva and US immediately after 8 Jan 15. He did not have parliamentary approval for the Foreign policy commitments he made. It is not too late for these improprieties to be brought before the parliament.

What is plotted behind the back of the nation is extremely dangerous to the continued existence of our nation. It is time a People’s Revolution commence with wide scale civil unrest to bring down this pansy government.

”It is time a People’s Revolution commence with wide scale civil unrest to bring down this pansy government.”

Indeed there is no other option.

The time is also come to give a countenance to the ‘People’s Revolution’. The term is obscure.

Furthermore the success of such a People’s Revolution would depend on the acceptability and popularity of its leaders. Who would they be?

One can say off hand who they would not be: not the Sangha, not the JO, not the Trade Unions. Then who?

The nearest this country came to a successful People’s Revolution was the Island wide strike of 1953 led by the leftists who led it and betrayed it. Now there are no leftists.

If there is no individual or group capable of leading a People’s Revolution then discussing it is a waste of time.

If the present context points in the direction of a negation of the war victory over the separatists by conceding FEDERALISM, then the People’s Revolution must begin through those who shed their blood for the Unitary State, For Buddhism and for the Sinhala Language.

Now those very persons are threatened with conviction as war criminals. It is from within their ranks that this People’s Revolution must emerge. They are sons of the soil, of grass root Sinhala communities. If anyone can whip up the fervour of the Sinhala it is they. They fought and shed their blood for ideals which could well be negated by the New Constitution.

Even if the constitution will be changed since this idiotic government follows whatever instructions the US, UK, EU, Norway, Canada, Sweden, India, the TNA and the separatist terrorists tell it to do, we must ensure that the unitary status of the country is not compromised in any way whatsoever. The clause in the 13th amendment which says that ‘the North and the East is the homeland of the Tamil speaking people’ must be deleted since it is totally false when looking at the history of the island. This clause must be replaced with the clause ‘the entire island is the homeland of all its peoples’. The provision which allows for the merger between two provinces should be deleted. As much subjects from the concurrent list should be included in the national list. Under no circumstances should land, police or fiscal powers be given to provincial councils. All of us need to ensure that the above happens since if the system reverts back to a parliamentary system and the presidential system is scrapped, the only way to ensure the unitary status of the country is the make sure that the provincial councils do not get any more powers than they have at present. The Public Security Ordinance should not be amended in anyway as well. If any provincial councils acts out of line, the head of government should dissolved such a provincial council and direct rule by the head of government should be enforced under those circumstances.

  7. plumblossom Says:

Sri Lanka should tell the US that Sri Lanka cannot abide by the UNHRC resolution. The Sri Lankan Army did not commit any war crimes. It is the LTTE terrorists who committed war crimes throughout 26 years of war. No country with an ounce of self respect will place their army in harms way to be tried by a court domestic or hybrid of war crimes the army did not commit in anyway. If individual soldiers committed any crimes, a complaint can be placed in a court of law in Sri Lanka. Why is there a need for special judicial procedures? This government is a puppet of the US, EU, UK, Norway, Sweden, Canada and India and is so subservient to US interests that it is ready to try its own armed forces for crimes that the armed forces did not commit. All the while, the LTTE terrorists who committed war crimes are being shown as totally innocent. Using the ploy of wanting a new constitution which almost all Sri Lankans don’t want, this treacherous government is trying to create a separate state in the guise of a federal state as the TNA separatist terrorists and the US, EU, UK, Norway, Sweden, Canada and India wants. Sri Lanka should tell the US that Sri Lanka cannot abide by the UNHRC resolution. The worst that the US, UK, EU, Sweden, Norway and India can do is impose sanctions on Sri Lanka. So what? Sri Lanka can trade with all the countries of Asia and the rest of the world even if the US, UK, EU, Norway, Sweden and India imposes sanctions. Sri Lanka can grow rice, we have jack fruit, bananas, bread fruit and plenty of water too. So we will not starve just because the US, UK, EU, Sweden, Norway and India imposes sanctions. Also since we can trade with the powerful economies of Asia which includes the Middle East, South East Asia, South Asia, the Far East and Central Asia as well as the rest of the world, actually, we may be OK economically too despite any sanctions imposed by the US, EU, UK, Norway, Sweden, Canada and India. However by avoiding implementing the unjust UNHRC resolution, Sri Lanka will safeguard its independence and freedom which is the most important thing for the next thousands of years as we have safeguarded our independence and freedom for at least the last 2600 years and avoid the creation of a separate state or eelam in the guise of a federal state. So Sri Lanka must very urgently tell the US that we will not abide by the unjust UNHRC resolution but carry out our own domestic process of reconciliation as we see fit. Let the imperialist US impose sanctions. Nothing much will happen to our economy since we can trade with the powerful economies of Asia and the rest of the world instead but Sri Lanka would have preserved its independence and freedom for the next thousands of years and avoid the partition of the country and the creation of a separate state which will be Sri Lanka’s end.

  8. NAK Says:

Changing Mongal Samaraweera will be like changing the pillow for the headache. This whole government should be changed..chased away to be exact!

  9. Fran Diaz Says:

    Agree with NAK.

    ——–

The whole Yahap set up into the :

    * Inquiry on War Crimes as well as the

    * Central Bank scams, and a host of other events, are FRAUDULENT ACTS GAINST THE PEOPLE OF LANKA and it is an ILLEGAL SET UP TOO, JUST LIKE THE 13-A ILLEGALLY IMPOSED ON SRI LANKA BY INDIA DURING JRJ TIMES IN 1987 !

    * Yahap is using people NOT voted in or trusted by the People of Lanka in important govt posts at present, including Mangala Samaraweera, who is just a puppet, just like the Exec PM, the President, and a host of others.

It is indeed time to REMOVE all that is ILLEGAL, imposed on Lanka, before more and more permanent damage is done in Lanka.

ALL concerned people must act in every non violent way possible.

The Law of the Land must prevail.

  10. Ancient Sinhalaya Says:

Mongal pongal is west’s bum licker. Also traitor chief pol pot ponil wickramaSinhalakiller’s bum licker. So he is
above the law like the ponil. He is not going to go anywhere like maha horandran, etc. etc. Pol ponil wickrama
Sinhalakiller rules Sri Lanka today. Rubber stamp vairapala sorrysena is a mere puppet. We suggest vairapala
sorrysena start wearing shorts. It might change his standing with pol pot ponil wickramaSinhalakiller and ponna-
    ruling government.

  11. Sooriarachi Says:

It is a mystery as to what made Mangala Samaraweera, who started his political career as a patriotic politician, to drastically change course and become one of the worst liabilities for SriLanka.

As the Foreign Minister of the Government of President Mahinda Rajapakse, and on his first visit to Norway, Mangala Samaraweera gave an excellent pro-SriLankan address to the standing committee on Foreign Affairs of the Norwegian Parliament, on the 18th June 2006. Sri Lankans were proud of him on that occasion.
Sometime thereafter, at the UN, on a resolution critical of Israel on their handling of the Palestinian claims, Mangala mysteriously broke ranks with those who voted in favour of the Palestinian interests and joined a group of about 5 Western Nations, led by the USA to defeat the resolution, knowing very well it was contrary to Mahinda Rajapakse’s well known stand in favour of the Palestinians and Muslim nations. Rajapakse was so incensed by this act of treachery by Mangala, he was sacked and replaced with the most patriotic and respected gentleman Lashman Kadiragama.

Today, almost exactly 10 years later, Mangala is again the Foreign Minister and is again acting contrary to the wishes of the current President Sirisena. Though Sirisena has assured the nation several times that no foreign Judges will be involved in any Investigation into alleged war crimes, Mangala is ignoring the President and agreeing to what the Western Nations dictates, though their foreign policy towards Sri Lanka is apparently controlled by the LTTE separatists.

The question is, will President Sirisena remove Mangala and protect Sri Lankan interests or is the President merely hoodwinking the nation with these statements and allowing Mangala, Ranil, Chandrika and the TNA to take the nation to the point of no return from satisfying these separatists’ goals?.

  12. Fran Diaz Says:

    Sooriarchi,

Thank you for the above write up. That explains a lot of things.

However, is there a small error that the then Pres MR appointed Lakshman Kadirgama as the Foreign Minister after Mangala’s foreign affairs ‘gaff’, after 2006 ?
Mr Kadirgama was assassinated in Aug 2005.

So it must have been some other person who was appointed as the new Foreign Minister by then Pres MR ?

  13. Dilrook Says:

Once again we are attacking the puppet not the puppeteer. Mangala is only a puppet doing what he is told to do by Sirisena (with Chandrika) and Ranil. He has not done anything against what he was told.

Same goes for VAT, FCID, demilitarisation, arresting Buddhist monks, etc.

All these are done by Sirisena through his ministers.

Sirisena has been extremely successful in putting the blame on his puppets and showing that he knows nothing. And we still believe him.

  14. Fran Diaz Says:

While all Presidents of Lanka have to ‘puppet’ to the western powers to some degree, some ‘puppet’ more than others. The current leadership (Yahap lead by RW/CBK) shows up as such an ‘ultra-puppet’ group.

Tamil leaders use the ‘puppeting’ to strengthen their hand for Separatism.

Tamil leaders are never held accountable ! Why is that ?

It is the Tamil leaders who started the extreme Tamil peoples violence with their Vadukoddai Resolution of 1976 – this was way before the 1983 Riots. The 1983 Riots allowed the formation of the Tamil Diaspora which leads the Separatist movement today, influencing the west.

We also like to know why it is that the 6-A (Aug 1983) has never been activated.
Is this due to part of the ‘puppeting’ plan, plus JVP of earlier times ? Can someone de-mystify that situation for us ?

  15. RohanJay Says:

Excellent article as always from an excellent journalist Shenali. Yes the British and Americans maybe global imperialists and invaders but their politicians and leaders no matter how evil, do pay attention, listen and pay respect to the will of the people in those countries. I agree this is something despite all their faults at least still in Britain and America they do respect the will of the people when it is spoken. This is definitely something the rest of the world can learn from. Could be one of the reasons. Britain and America have had few tyrants rule their people unlike you say in other countries in the world throughout history. But excellent articles as always by Shenali Waduge a true independent highly intelligent journalist. The world needs more of such journalists of Shenali Waduge’s calibre in these deceptive times to tell us some much needed truths.
