New Delhi [India], Jan. 17(ANI): Allying all fears regarding Indian security concerns in Sri Lanka and the Indian Ocean, Sri Lankan military leader-turned-politician Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka on Tuesday sent a strong message that Indian security and geopolitics cannot be jeopardized, endorsing India as a regional power and potential super power.

“When it comes to the security issues, obviously India is the regional power in this Area. Indian security concerns and sentiments cannot be jeopardised. Sri Lanka has really understood that. So when Sri Lanka deals with other countries you have ensure that you don’t put India into embarrassing situation,” he told ANI.

Fonseka, who played an instrumental role in bringing down the LTTE, promoted India’s role in the geo-politics around Indian Ocean and asserted that other powerful countries must realize that India is very concerned about its security.

“India is any way a regional power and potential super power. So rest of the powerful countries in the world, when they want to move around in this area, must understand that India is very concerned about its security,” he added.

Fonseka criticised the way Hambantota project has been handled and dubbed that concerned projects have not been beneficial to the country because of the rampant corruption and called it as a national crisis.

“Hambantota is a peculiar situation. Our country has become indebted to China very badly over those projects. Those projects have not been beneficial to the country because there have been lot of corruption.

People dealing with China from our side were not doing a very sincere job. Lot of money have been played out. As it is it became a national crisis for us,” he said.

Highlighting the diplomatic relations with other countries, Fonseka said, “Our intention is to remain friends with everybody. We are a small country we had historical relationship with most of the countries. Large countries must understand our situation. Things will be all right as it goes on.”

Being optimistic on the future course of relationship between India and Sri Lanka, Fonseka added that political understanding is there between the two nations, national interests are being respected by both countries.

“We have realised that at (in) no way we can disturb the geopolitical interest. I don’t see any that there be any problem in future between these two countries,” he added.

Fonseka arrive in India on Tuesday for a two-day visit to brainstorm on global issues in the second Raisina Dialogue which is underway in New Delhi.(ANI)

Come on Fonny.. now playing to the tune of Yamapalanaya created by India!!!

Earlier you were protecting Mother Lanka… You were even basing TN politicians….

now go and protect the interests of India and the West…

This is not Kalawedda role.. this is a Katussa role.. changing the colour… ha ha

  2. Ananda-USA Says:

    Bravo Hiranthe!

Fonseka the Maha Kalu Sinhalaya of yesterday
has metamorphosed into the Paragathi Gonseka of today!

Not a changing of the colors of an honor guard
But a changing of color of a dishonored Katussa
    Betraying his Motherland of yesterday
For a pound of pomp and power today!

  3. Christie Says:

    Who funded him in 2010?

  4. Fran Diaz Says:

INDIA to be a Super Power in the region has to clean her own house first.
Any VIP saying INDIA is the Super Power does not make it so.
The People have to recognise it as such and the People must say so.

INDIA’s Caste structure/Poverty is known to all. INDIA does her Census based on Caste. INDIAN people have their Caste stamped on their birth certificates. The Caste structure disables people and has gone on for some 3,000 yrs in INDIA. How can INDIA be a Super Power with such HR problems.

Poverty is rampant in INDIA, the most populous Democracy. Over a Billion people live in INDIA.

In Lanka, the ILLEGAL INDIA imposed under Duress 13-A is still in place. This piece of legislation imposed on the JRJ govt in Cold War times, divides Lanka ethnically & linguistically.

If INDIA is to be recognised as a Regional Power, then INDIA must be magnanimous and allow the removal of the 13-A since the Cold War is over. It was declared over in 1991 and Pres Elect Donald Trump is a friend to Russia – no Cold War with Russia on now.

Also, the Vadukoddai Resolution of 1976 must be declared in Parliament as REVOKED by the present day Tamil leaders.
The trumped up 1983 Riots which enabled some one million Tamils to go west as Refugees and form the Tamil Diaspora to get funds fo Eelam formation and encouraged the LTTE killing spree of some 30 yrs, came AFTER the V’koddai Resoln.
The Tamil leaders of today must play their part and release Lanka from the LTTE terrorism of the past. INDIA must agree to this. Then INDIA will then earn our respect.

After such acts are done, we can say INDIA is a respected Regional Power.

  5. S.Gonsal Says:

Super power ? So what ?
    Remember Vietnam ? No ?

  6. S.Gonsal Says:

    Dear FM,
“JOKERS” of Tamil Nadu are part of the Superpower ?

  7. Fran Diaz Says:

    Some suggestions :

    * Sign an MoU with the UN that Sri Lanka will not act in any way to jeopardise INDIA’s seccurity issues.

    * Sign another MoU with the UN that Sri Lankan Ports will be used ONLY for PEACEFUL purposes.

  8. Ananda-USA Says:

    Fran,

Sri Lanka should NOT SIGN anymore International Agreements that CONSTRAIN Sri Lanka’s FREEDOM TO ACT in its own nationsl interest.

There is no saying how these promises will be used against us later.

Our participation in the United Nations has already bitten us badly in our behind with PARAGATHI TRAITORS like Avamangala Samaraweera pushing Sri Lanka’s neck under the UN GUILLOTINE.

We should have LEARNED by now that these Western Controlled International Organizations and their local puppets will try to BEHEAD us at every turn.

In fact, Sri Lanka should divest itself of ALL unnecessary international agreements that it has entered into, to SLAVISHLY PLEASE foreign powers!

The GSP+, with its 58, or 27 as now being acknoeledged by EU, EU “conditions” is yet another diabolocal totally unwarrenyrf gundu to try to tie fown Sri Lanka hand and foot to render it DEFENCELESS! These conditions are not COMMERCIAL OR TRADE RELATED, but are entirely “political” and represent unwarranted interference in the internal affairs if our sovereign and independent motherland

Does India consult Sri Lanka BEFORE it adopts various policies to defend it’s own interests? It does not. Therefore, why should Sri Lanka rush to render itself defendless to a nation whose actions against Sri Lanka since 1948 has shown it to be an ENEMY NATION, even now trying it’s darned to co-opt our internal politics and economically assimilate us into their country?

    NO! No! no!

Let us remain UNFETTERED and REMAIN FREE by building the necessary alliance in our national interest. Let us pay the PRICE of that FREEDOM needed to maintain our FULL SOVEREIGNTY without offering our wrists to India to clamp on SLAVISH SHACKLES of any kind!

India has to LEARN and be made to ACCEPT ZTHE limitations on its power to compel obedience from its smaller neighbors. Sri Lanka has already paid a HUGE price in blood and treasure to remain free; let us not abject give up now!

  9. Dilrook Says:

    @Fran

Even if Sri Lanka “signs an MoU with the UN that Sri Lanka will not act in any way to jeopardise INDIA’s seccurity issues” and “signs another MoU with the UN that Sri Lankan Ports will be used ONLY for PEACEFUL purposes” [quoted] India will not be happy.

India wants Sri Lanka actively on its side against China and Pakistan.

Can we do that? No. So India will not rest easy on Sri Lanka anyway.

  10. Lorenzo Says:

Lease TRINCO port to China on a 99 year lease. GAME OVER for Endia!

  11. Fran Diaz Says:

    Ananda,

If Lanka cannot depend on interntional bodies such as the UN, then :

What is Lanka to do unless we do what Switzerland has done i.e. Have an Internal Citizens Army, a volunteer army, may be running to millions of Lankans ?
At least Lanka then also ought to have every citizen (from the age of 10 yrs upwards ?), take an Oath of Loyalty to the country on a daily basis ?

    ——

    Dilrook,

INDIA has already signed 10 border Agreements with China. Where is the enemity there ?

I suspect there is some “pseudo enemity” going on between Pakistan/China/INDIA group ….
No one can afford real enemity these days, what with nuclear arms virtually in every country now.
Recall when David Cameron first became PM of Britain, his first foreign visit was to INDIA to sell/gift a new fighter jet.
Some Foreign countries benefit when others are ‘divided & ruled’.
That may be the crux of the whole problem for Lanka.

  12. Dilrook Says:

    @Fran

And India has violated all of them. Sri Lanka too has agreements with and India habitually violates them too. The 1974 Katchateevu agreement and the 1987 Indo-Lanka Peace Accord. India has violated these while holding Sri Lanka to them.

Now Fonseka is talking of handing over Trincomalee port to India. This is outrageous.

There is no enmity between Sri Lanka and India. As India wants Sri Lanka to be part of its geopolitical battles, there is no way Sri Lanka can pander into Indian interests. What happened to Sikhim will happen to Sri Lanka.

  13. aloy Says:

I think the padakkama given to SF as Field Marshal should be withdrawn by SL’s military ( or defence secy) if what he is suppose to have told The Hindu is true. If that is the case Kalawedda really suits him.

  14. Fran Diaz Says:

    Dilrook,

What you say is true – INDIA cannot be relied on to totally honor Agreements, whilst getting Lanka to honor our side of them. INDIA has a developed a bullying nature toward its small neighbors.

Under such circumstances, small countries like Lanka (island, sea locked) will have to go the way of landlocked Switzerland and train a standing army of millions of civilians to defend the country. Malaysia has done the same with volunteers. At least a great awareness will sweep the entire country to protect it from total invasion by ambitious outsiders.

A friend of mine says that Taiwan has deals with China, yet holds onto their own Ports (sea & air).

  15. Ananda-USA Says:

    Fran,

Yes, Sri Lanka should anticipate INCREASED DEFENCE NEEDS in the future to DETER not only India, but ANY & ALL potential foreign enemies including the USA, and PREPARE FOR IT NOW!

To that end, I have previously advocated creating a large Million Man Sri Lanka Defence Force backed up by a Citizens Militia with compulsory participation by EVERY ADULT of BOTH SEXES between ages 18 to 60.

The Million Man Defence Force should be State of the Art, and should have not only a military role, but also a role in national infrastructure development, disaster assistance and defence/military manufacturing for export and its own use, on a continuous basis. The defence forces should, in time, become a key national resource with state-of-the-art expertise and facilities able to tackle any and all aspects of national defence, development, manufacturing and emergency assistance. Such an establishment would undertake a significant amount of R&D activities and have the necessary scientific labs and trained scientists, doctors and engineers.

Moreover, this Sri Lanka People’s Defence Force should become the MAIN INSTRUMENT for INCULCATING and MAINTAINING a HIGH LEVEL of PATRIOTISM and WILLINGNESS TO SACRIFICE for the good of the Motherland.

New members should be INDUCTED and INITIATED into the force in a MOVING CEREMONY at a location of HISTORICAL PATRIOTIC SIGNIFICANCE such as the Balane Heights, the battlefields of Randeniwala, Mulleriyawa, Thoppigala, Alimankada etc as Israel does at Masada. Every year, the members of the Civilian Militia would be required to report for periodic training with full pay. That pay would be treated as a ‘defence tax’ to be psid by all employers.

Such National Armed Forces have been, and are, successfully maintained by a number of SMALL NATIONS confronting THREATS from much bigger and numerous enemies. They include Israel confronting the Arab world, Switzerland confronting a militarized Europe circa WWI and WWII , Taiwan confronting China, and even the island nation of Britain against King Philip’s Spain, Napoleonic France, Nazi Germany, etc.

The goal is not necessarily to WIN against the larger enemies in a concentrated battle, but to offer such a high-level of DETERRENCE that would make a military invasion too COSTLY, BLOODY and unwinnable IN THE LONG TERM against a WHOLE PEOPLE trained, prepared, battle-ready, willing, able and highly motivated to defend their country against any and all enemies and committed to national development as every citizen’s personal responsibility.

It is a perfect way to INSTILL the notion that citizens have not only RIGHTS but also RESPONSIBILITIES towards their country and their people.

Sri Lanka has an ENVIABLE history spanning over 400 years of resistance to the Portuguese, Dutch and British by Sinhala kings who confronted them mobilizing their ENTIRE POPULATIONS, that is UNMATCHED by and LONGER than of any other people in world history. We should match TODAY the feats of our ancestors YESTETDAY.

We have also demonstrated in the last phase of the EELAM WAR that we Sinhalese, properly led by PATRIOTIC and VISIONARY LEADERS, have not lost neither our wit nor our courage in confronting and defeat ing an enemy the like if which even much larger armies of superpowers are unable to quell.

Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was in the process of creating such a Defence such a highly motivated military Establishment that would not only defend the nation, but also was contributing to its development in an efficient and planned way.

That is why we should ELECT Gota as EXECUTIVE President, and have Mahinda Rajapaksa as Prime Minister NOW, until a New Patriotic Constitution devoid of any and all SUB-NATIONAL local governments can be passed, without TERM LIMITS on the Presidency, and REVERSE THEIR ROLES if needed!

  16. Fran Diaz Says:

    Ananda,

Thank you very much for your truly creative ideas. We agree.

It is up to all Concerned Citizens to MAKE IT SO. All Lanka citizens could participate and benefit from such a venture, feel Secure, United and Progressive, on a basis of One for All in Lanka, and All for One Country.

    May it be so, forever.

    Long live Sri Lanka !

  17. Cerberus Says:

Ananda USA and Fran. I agree with both of you. There was a very good article on this subject a while ago. Please see the link below to it. India is a bully against all the small countries around it. India was created only 68 years ago by the British out of a collection of individual states run by Maharajahs unlike Sri Lanka which was a unitary state for 2600 years. All the able Oxford educated leaders in Sri Lanka were killed off by LTTE or was it RAW? Starting with Lalith, Gamini, Kadiragamar, etc. Fonseka after his episode with the bombing (PTSD?) was saying at one point that he wanted to go to war with India. Now he is singing a different tune.
    See: http://www.lankaweb.com/news/items/2015/12/24/it-is-the-sinhalese-who-need-protection-under-the-r2p-of-the-un-from-77-million-tamils-across-the-palk-straits/

  18. Christie Says:

Fonseka was Indian Empire’s Plan B. Where did his son in law get all that money from? It did not work in 2010.

Indian Union Plan C worked in 2015.
