National Freedom Front (NFF) leader MP Wimal Weerawansa has decided to end his hunger strike, according to MP Jayantha Samaraweera.

He ended his protest fast after 9 days by drinking a glass of milk due to the requests made by several Buddhist monks, Samaraweera told Ada Derana.

Weerawansa, who launched a hunger strike on March while in prison over the rejection of his bail applications, had been refusing food and was reportedly only drinking liquids.

He was admitted to the prisons hospital on March 26 due to his deteriorating health condition while he was transferred to the Colombo National Hospital yesterday (29).

Weerawansa was arrested and remanded on charges of misusing state-owned vehicles.

Good! Wimal’s life is too valuable to throw away; his enervy will be needed to defend, protect and foster our Motherland in the battles that lie ahead of us all!

  2. Lionel Says:

    What a joke!

  3. ranjit Says:

Ananda you are very correct and I too pray for his recovery soon. We need politicians like him who fear no one and who fights against the enemies of our Motherland. IT was not a joke Lionel. He fought for the right. When this Yamapalanaya does something like that it’s OK but not for the
members in the JO why two different punishment for two different peoples. Tell me who’s the Saint and the good ones in this Yamapalanaya? Do you know anyone Lionel? Can you named him? This rotten government must stop this revenge business against opposition members and start delivering the goods they promised the citizens of this country. We should thank Maha Sanga for interfering in Wimal’s case and saving a valuable human life who always stood for the country. good always wins and Bad and the ugly perishes.

  4. Fran Diaz Says:

I totally agree with Ananda, ranjit and Fran.
Some people don’t have brains to differentiate between a patriot and a traitor.

    Long live Wimal!

  6. AnuD Says:

I think he was scared of his life because of possible kidney damage.
