It said that there was no doubt that the minister should resign due to the nature of allegations levelled against him, but the responsibility for the scam should be taken by those who hold higher posts as well.

Minister Karunanayake was removed as finance minister and appointed as the foreign minister by the President. That is not all, they readily gave him control over the National and Development Lotteries Boards as well. There is no rational basis for this allocation of subjects. No country has ever created a foreign ministry which handles lotteries boards,” former external affairs minister G.L. Peiris told a news conference.

He said this development had created a difficult working situation at the ministry driving away its employees including Foreign Secretary Esala Weerakoon.

He said the no-confidence motion which would be brought against Minister Ravi Karunanayake would have the support of MPs from both the SLFP and UNP who were against corruption.

The no-confidence motion will be a success and a slap in the face of the government. Karunanayake continuing to function as the foreign minister will only bring disgrace to the country. Therefore, his resignation is a must,” he said.

However, Professor Peiris warned that any attempt by government higher-ups to shy away from taking responsibility for the scam, by making the foreign minister a scapegoat should be stopped.

Yes; Ravi is just a fraction of the fraud. Perpetual Securities, it’s owners and beneficiaries must be prosecuted. Investigations into the involvement of Ranil, Malik and Mangala must be carried out.

There is another equally massive fraud connected to this. The fraudsters borrowed the money they invested in Central Bank bonds. They borrowed from Bank of Ceylon at dirt cheap rates. This is another massive fraud on Bank of Ceylon this time. Surely some government bigwigs helped this transaction.

Consider how the fraudsters have “hedged” their risks. Now they will default the loan from Bank of Ceylon saying their venture went bankrupt.

Allegedly, part of the fraud money went to 2015 DNA and UNP election campaigns. Ravi must be punished but others too must be punished for this massive fraud.

I’m appalled by the conduct of the Speaker. This is not the first time he has shown his partiality. There are no legal issues preventing the debate of the no confidence motion. It is a foolish and dictatorial excuse. The debate itself may contain matter that can potentially be decided by a court. That is a separate issue. Besides, the fraud has not gone to the courts yet. A very partial and unprofessional decision by the Speaker to save the corrupt in parliament. In comparison, Chamal was an excellent Speaker.

As per Keheliya Rambukwella the following list of traitors met under the leadership of Ranil to plan the robbery. Malik, Ravi, Kabir etc. Did you notice that all of them received education at Royal College. Hip, Hip Huray. The meeting happened in January 2015.

Ravi was sacrifieced to save Ranil.

Also you don’t see any news on this on Foreign Media.

Is there anyway to start a petition to stop the monthly payments going to Perpetual Treasuries? Is there any legal status to such an action?

Dilrook, I am not appalled by Karu Jayasuriya’s conduct. During Rajapakse’s time when Navi Pillai visited the country (originally only 3 dyas), all the UNP, JVP, TNA members wanted to see this woman and she extended her stay to one week. Karu too met up with her to brief her on the situation in the country. What a dirty thing to do by this old man.
