Like the jackal in the story of “The lion, bear and the jackal” the UNP will set the JO and SLFP against each other until they kiss the dust and consume the carcasses, at the forthcoming Local government elections.

Looking at the way things are taking shape in the present political Sunami and the bitter infighting in the SLFP as JO vs pseudo SLFP of the President unless the people take my advice outlined in the essay ‘The need for all true SLFP voters to stand with the Mahinda Rajapaksa Camp at the forthcoming Local Government elections’ appeared on 9. 12 2017, very seriously and act accordingly I have a strong feeling that there will be a re -enacting of the proverbial story of The lion, bear and the jackal” we have learned in grade 3 in school.  The story I reproduce below appeared in the Lankaweb of 22.10.2017. I repeat it here because it is so relevant to the present context and reiterate and warn the people about the imminent danger before the nation.

In this instance, I recall a story of the Lion, a Kaludeva and a cunning Fox we learned in grade three in school .One day when a Kaludeva (a bear like animal) was about to enjoy a deer killed by it there came, a Lion on the scene. The Lion interrupted and said it was he who killed it and therefore the carcass belongs to him. A fight ensued between the two. Hearing the brawl between them, a fox passing by, appeared on the scene. It thought for a while, got a brilliant idea, and applauded and encouraged both of them to fight until both of them got fatally wounded and died. There after the cunning fox consumed the deer along with its family until the whole carcass was over.

This is exactly what will happen at the end of this three corner fight. In this case MR is the lion, Sirisena the Kaludeva and Ranil the cunning fox and the Tamils, Muslims, Tamil Diaspora, NGOO and the International Community, the family of the fox. The unfortunate deer is this country, Sinhala nation and the Buddha Sasana put together. Once the Local Government elections are over and if they win they will use this as spring board for the next General election. Thereafter all these enemies will get together and install a new Constitution, parcel out the country, give 13 plus including land, police and even judicial powers to Tamils and Muslims and all what they are asking for like the power to get direct foreign aid to the Provincial Councils and self- determination etc and make this beautiful motherland of ours a land of eternal ethnic strife and a cursed battle ground of international power struggles at the expense of the Sinhala nation.”

I have never seen politico-social turmoil and a crisis like the one we have today in this country ever before. It is so confusing and chaotic I wonder whether the nemesis of this nation is already at the door step. As such unless the whole nation realize this imminent disaster and act immediately the curtain will fall in no time on this Island nation before we get up from our deep sleep.

Where are the traditional Muradevatavas of the nation who rose to save the Sinhala nation under this kind of situation in the past and the guardian Gods who are vested with the task of protecting that mission?

The information we receive from the grass root level in Sri Lanka indicates hardly any three corner fight at all, but it is the fight between the government and the opposition. Leaving aside 3 to 4% JVP votes, all anti-government votes will go to Joint Opposition as protest votes.
Perhaps, we are going to see the new trend now, similar to what you have experienced in France in the last general election. A new force will emerge from no-where and It will be neither SLFP nor UNP. However, People will begin to appreciate economic stability, development projects, development of infrastructure and transportation during Mahinda period and Mahinda can attract that force and get the benifits.
International community and the Western influence will not be able to feed false propaganda against JO any more. People will not simply buy that

  2. Senerath Says:

Information I receive from the street level in Sri Lanka is entirely different. People are longing for a ‘new force’ that is 100% true. But that force is equally agaisnt ‘Mahinda+Basil’ same old wiskey as Ranil’s ‘clean man Pal Hora’ proven soda. People do not like JVP either, but very likely their vote goes uo to 10% or so.
One thing so dangerous is this wiskey+ soda drink has entirely dissolved Sinhala Buddhist Nationalism. People don’t care anymore.

  3. Senerath Says:

Actually, voting trend depends on areas. What NMY predicted is true only in Down South.

  4. Dilrook Says:

The mixed election system makes it difficult to predict the final winners. One thing is certain – SLPP will get more votes than the SLFP (a dead party now).

Although LG elections are about the grassroots level, it hardly predict the outcome of national elections. In fact, there are more instances in the recent past of a party winning grassroots level elections only to lose national elections 2 years later.

e.g. UNP swept LG elections in 1991 but lost 3 PCs in 1993 and two national elections 3 years later, in 2002 UNP won most LG elections but lost national elections 2 years later; UPFA won in most LG bodies in 2012 but lost a presidential election in early 2015

CMC election will give an indication where the minority vote will be islandwide in 2 years’ time.

Gotabaya’s “Eliya” group has not fielded any professional or anyone for the election. This is a sad disconnect. It will remain a mere pressure group. This predicts electoral disaster for it and for Gotabaya (unless he is accomodated by another group which is also very difficult without some political clout).

  5. NeelaMahaYoda Says:

Probably Gotabaya is eying for Presidential contest in 2020 as an apolitical candidate. “Eliya” group, at the moment, is represented by only intellectuals, but they hardly have members in the village level to contest a Local Government Elections.

I have monitored Sri Lankan elections since 1956, and for any election to be a meaningful response to the policies of the government, the decisive vote is coming from the majority in the village who suffers the most.

I am sure the people who undergo economic hardship will inevitably became protest voters.

Thank you Sudath for telling the TRUTH. Only you understood.

MR group can NEVER drive down My3 group to 5%.
My3 group can NEVER drive down MR group to 5%.

    They DIVIDE anti-UNP votes.

    Our PUNDITS cannot understand this!!

  7. Lorenzo Says:

    NMY,

From MY experience POOR VOTERS can be easily BOUGHT by MONEY, RICE, COCONUTS, CLOTHES, etc.

ONLY a govt. party can do these things because they ROB the TREASURY in election time.

    So it works both ways.

BEST thing NOT to DIVIDE the anti-UNP group.

A VERY CONTENTIOUS CONTENDER AT THE DRIVING SEAT OF A TRULY PEOPLES’ VEHICLE IS AN ATTORNEY AT LAW

HIS NAME IS GOING VIRAL THESE DAYS. WHAT IS HIS NAME ? NO **MR**MS**AKD** CAN EVER BEAT HIM. WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS DISGUSTING TROIKA. THEY ARE DISGUSTING. THEY WILL ALL BE **HUMPTY DUMPTIES** HE HAS CONFIRMED THAT HE WILL CONTEST.

    HIS NAME IS NAGANANDA KODITUWAKKU

I do hope I can live to see this day.

PLEASE WAIT PATIENTLY. SORRYMA SENA, RAAJA PASSA, CHAURI RAAJINI, GOTAA BAYA, ARE GOING TO BE HISTORY. THEY WILL SHINE IN HISTORY BOOKS. I TOO THOUGHT OF GOTAA, BUT MY MIND JUST CHANGED. IT IS NOT WORTH TALKING ABOUT THE WOULD BE ICONS.

  10. Lorenzo Says:

    SW,

GR is still the BEST HOPE.

He left for USA (for the second time in 2017) in DISGUST. He had a BIG fight with BR. According to people in that meeting GR had shouted at BR – “tho ape ayyawa kewa” – you ruined MR.

Don’t confuse between GR and BR. One is educated the other is not.

  11. NeelaMahaYoda Says:

    Susantha
NAGANANDA KODITUWAKKU is a bit eccentric to hand over your country.

I think he has got a British passport and his family is living in England. He was at one-time head of the Custom fraud investigation department and left the post after having a bit of a strife with a politician during Ranil-Chandrika time.

Subsequently he left the country and as far as I can remember he got political asylum in the UK.

Even at that time, he is one of the eccentrics who justified JVP uprising on account of high-level government corruption. Though, His allegations were not substantiated with real evidence (Lankaweb). Even in 2005 he said Lankan politicians have plundered national wealth in billions (Lankaweb) but, without any solid evidence.

Regarding his allegation of selling car permits, in reality, most of the professionals including local Engineers, Doctors and Administrators sold their car permits using a loop hole in the law and earn some extra money if the car is not really required. The money is then used in other undertakings such as children’s education or building your house etc. I think it is not a crime that we should worry too much.

  12. Dilrook Says:

Nagananda cannot win the presidential election. However, he can seriously dent the anti-government vote particularly among floating voters. For this reason, Opposition presidential candidates will have to come to some agreement with him. Such an agreement will be beneficial to the nation.

Although there is no legal restriction on foreign citizens (Basil, Gotabaya, Vimukthi, Nagananda) contesting presidential elections (the restriction only applies to parliamentary elections), a considerable number of voters seem to think restrictions somehow apply. This fear will discourage them from voting for foreign citizens. Not to forget rivals’ media bashing of foreign citizens calling themselves “patriots”. The anti-west movement they have created comes to haunt them.

Sinhala voters are divided into various camps which dilutes their clout. A leader must emerge who can unify all these camps. It is extremely unlikely a Rajapaksa can unify them. Gotabaya comes close but the Indian induced nationalist purge of the SLPP will cost it in a national election.

Tamil and Muslim voters will not vote for a Rajapaksa. To get the natural opposition vote that builds up in the north and the east, a new clan is needed from the Opposition. Sirisena must be forced to surrender his hold on the SLFP before the election. He will not surrender it to a Rajapaksa. To ease his task for a ‘dignified surrender’ a new clan must lead the SLPP/JO. There is no way to make Sirisena camp’s votes percentage to 5% or less.

  13. Senerath Says:

Nagananda is the only man on earth who has promised to purge Pallath Sabha ( thus 13A). He looks like a good Buddhist who can win a considerable amount of Buddhist votes. But he has no money to spend to win our corrupt elections.
We need a highly corrupt person to win the elections. Problem is corruption and patriotism doesn’t go together. How can a greedy idiot who sells the car to earn 1 million rupees having only qulifications of wining an election be a patriot ?

  14. SA Kumar Says:

From MY experience POOR VOTERS can be easily BOUGHT by MONEY, RICE, COCONUTS, CLOTHES, etc.- Correct Last time MS was not in Govt ( MR was in Govt( so Where did YOU get money for these gifts ???

    Ananda-USA where are you ???
