Thank you Shamindra Ferdinando for thus drawing public attention to this serious lapse on the part of our politicians, particularly the 225 elected representatives in parliament. The constitution making project is predicated on the false allegation that the SL army committed war crimes including the slaughter of 40,000 Tamil civilians, and the rape of refugees. Lord Naseby’s revelation that the actual figure of civilian deaths is around 8,000, and not 40,000, could have been used as one credible piece of evidence in support of the SL army. But few MPs had even referred to this valuable piece of information at the time that Shamindra addressed this Eliya gathering (probably somewhere in November, ’17) in defence of our war winning army that made such sacrifices so all Sri Lankans would be saved from terror. That attitude still remains not only among politicians of both the government and the opposition.

The tragedy is that even JO politicians, excepting a rare few including Wimal Weerawansa, focus on ephemeral issues such as the rising cost of living, rather than on the really vital problems . Is it that, as one would be compelled to wonder, all these politicians have reconciled themselves to a foreign sponsored Tamil diaspora-led scheme to put an end to the unitary state that defeated LTTE terrorism? Be that as it may, all MPs, irrespective of party affiliations, have an avoidable duty to defeat the constitutional project in the Parliament before it gets into the referendum stage. Shamindra’s opinion is the same.
