  1. Nanda Says:

Both of them will have to travel to USA soon to attend some private matter.

  2. Sarath W Says:

Why is Mahinda reluctant to Gota as the next presidential candidate? Does he still want to promote Namal for the top job? Gota has the credentials, support of the Sinhala Buddhists and he has a proven record of his capabilities. Is he planning to be like Putin, after his two term presidency, become the PM, change the constitution and become the president for life?

  3. Vaisrawana Says:

The second picture shows (the already executive)pm Ranil condescendingly giving an ear to his subordinate. But the name that appears above the picture is ‘Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’, which is misleading.

    @ SarathW:

My own feeling is that MR’s cautious answer to BBC’s question about giving his brother Gota an opportunity to contest the presidential elections should not be interpreted the way you do. He is certainly not against his younger sibling becoming president. His usual method is to make important choices with the people behind him, that is, supporting him. So the proposal to make Gota president must come from the people, which, in any case, MR knows to be a strong probability. Actually, as a farsighted statesman, MR is worried about the future of the state, including particularly the immediate future. The country is being disintegrated and devoured by neoliberal Western imperialism and its scavenging domestic and regional acolytes. Even if Gota becomes president, that won’t be an obstacle to Namal succeeding him, if the latter is able to prove his mettle with the people. However, his alleged parental ambition for Namal is being unnecessarily exaggerated by both friend and foe.

  4. Lorenzo Says:

    Rawana,

Not only MR, also BR, NR, YR, SR, RR, CR, etc. are AGAINST GR becoming president or PM. GR is NOT promoting relatives. Can you give me ONE EXAMPLE of GR appointing a relative to a HIGH POSITION under him? NO ONE.

Rajapakshas fear if GR becomes president or PM their sons, brothers, etc. will NOT have a future in politics.

Another problem is ISRAEL. GR is very close to Israel. MR and others are with the PALESTINIANS.

  5. Vaisrawana Says:

    Renzo

That is a very malicious criticism of the Rajapakshas. If people like them and elect them to lead the country, so be it. What’s wrong with that? Actually, the presence of good popular leaders like them helps to keep riffraff like Run-Nil out. See the ruin he is causing to the country as an accomplice of foreign interventionists without an iota of concern for the general welfare and wellbeing of the millions of innocent Sri Lankans. With a Rajapaksha around he has absolutely no chance of even dreaming of becoming president. (Not that he will get that chance even if they are not around.) So, he is hell bent on implicating Gota in some crime that he never committed (and is never likely to commit given his generous kindhearted nature about which those close to him know very well; but I am not one of them, have never even seen him in person even from a distance) and on destroying the country that won’t elect him president. Isn’t it just silly? Probably, he wants a police stooge to fabricate some incriminatory evidence and frame him. (Incidentally, it is now well known that certain security forces personnel currently in (probably unwarranted) detention who served under Gota or someone under Gota when he was Defence Secretary are being coerced to give such evidence with the proferred incentive of immediate release from custody; but the heroic soldiers have so far refused to comply.) When that strategy fails, the vicious characters hired for the satanic project will try to give an impression of disunity between the Rajapaksha family members. But who will believe their stories except those who nurse a visceral hatred of them without any reason?

The Rajapakshas have been in politics since 1936, that is, for more than eight decades. Which other ‘political family’ in Sri Lanka has been continuously in active politics for so long? That is great testimony of the public approval that they enjoy that few politicians could claim. I am writing this because I consider it my duty as a patriotic Sri Lankan to defend the good name of a potential future president whose advent in that position (if Sri Lankans are lucky enough) will definitely restore the country to the level of political stability and economic development that was achieved in the 2009-14 period under his brother’s stewardship. Unless that happens, our beloved motherland will have no future, and will vanish from the firmament of history for ever.

  6. Lorenzo Says:

My3 is planning to bring GR as SLFP presidential candidate.

    Pohottuwa presidential candidate is BASIL.

GR was not happy with SLPP and kept away from the election. Now SLPP won the election Basil is taking all credit.

GR and My3 are BEST FRIENDS. My3 always stopped police from arresting GR.

DISPUTES between MR and GR include LANZA. GR ordered STF to arrest Lanza but MR stopped it.

My3 supported UNHRC resolution 30/1 against SL to get GR to his side. IF GR doesn’t co-operate, My3 will make him pay. A STUPID move but this is how My3 operate.

  7. Lorenzo Says:

    Rawana,

Don’t forget not all Rajapaksha family members were together!!

Basil was in the UNP for some time. Nirupama also joined UNP.

MR made it clear GR is NOT coming to presidential election from SLPP. Basil is their presidential candidate. MR is their PM. GR will be once again just defence secretary. 2025 presidential candidate will be NR.

GR has NO future within SLPP.

  8. Vaisrawana Says:

Thank you, Renzo. But, I am sorry you remind me of Goldsmith’s The Village Schoolmaster who “e’ven though vanquish’d .. could argue still”. No hard feelings, though. No more replies, either. Bye for now!
