22 Sri Lankan students win scholarships to study in prestigious Chinese universities

Colombo, Aug 7 (newsin.asia) – The Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka, on Tuesday awarded 22 Sri Lankan university students scholarships to pursue their higher education in Chinese universities in a bid to strengthen education ties between the two countries.

The students received the scholarships at the annual Chinese Government Scholarship Award Ceremony held in Colombo. The event was organised in collaboration with Sri Lanka’s Higher Education and Cultural Affairs Ministry.

The selected winners will leave for China in September and will pursue their bachelors degrees, masters degrees and doctoral degrees in different fields such as medicine, art, environmental science, archaeology and museology, Chinese Language Teaching and international economic and trade.

The students will study in prestigious universities including Zhejiang University, Wuhan University and Peking University.
Secretary of Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Higher Education and Cultural Affairs, J.J. Rathnasiri, while thanking China’s contribution in helping Sri Lankan students said this Chinese Higher Education Scholarships program had benefited a large number of Sri Lankans over a long period of time by providing undergraduate and postgraduate education opportunities in prestigious Chinese universities.
I request all students to get the maximum benefits out of the scholarships and after your return serve the country in your best and help more and more to strengthen China, Sri Lanka relations,” Rathnasiri said.
Charge d’Affairs at the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka, Pang Chunxue, while congratulating the winners said the students will be the needful talents for the national development of Sri Lanka and will become friendship envoys for both China and Sri Lanka.
Today, China is aligning its One Belt and One Road Initiative with Sri Lankan national development strategy to reach common development. China will never pursue development at the expenses of Sri Lanka,” Pang said.
We are confident that the increasingly deepening win-win cooperation in many fields between our two countries would bring tangible benefits to our two peoples,” she added.

    Chinese schools go back almost 70 years if I remember correct.
