President Maithripala Sirisena said he immediately deployed an officer to look into the incident where a starving couple from Kahatagasdigiliya had been feeding on Murunga leaves for days due to the lack of water and food.

Addressing an event in Anuradhapura, the President said all state officers and the ministers in the region should be held responsible for the situation

It is the responsibility of all ministers and state officials to visit the affected people and provide relief,” he said.

Daily Mirror and our sister paper Lankadeepa reported that a couple in Kahatagasdigiliaya area had eaten boiled Murunga leaves for several days.

MURUNGA….MORINGA is a very nourishing food. It cannot be that they only survived only on the leaves. The Murunga pod…Karal, too would have been available for consumption. It is acceptable that they cannot survive for long without any other form of food, like rice and curry, or Roti with gravy etc. So they really need help from the Government to get different other type of Food. Buddhu Saranai.

Captain Sirisena is fighting fires all over his ship. There is fire on the bridge, in the decks, in the hold, and on the sails. He has nowhere to run, his clothes on fire and he is practically naked. He has brought such bad luck to his ship, his crew and to his company, the only thing that is left for him to do is jump overboard before they make him walk the plank or keelhaul him.

With his simple mind, Simple Sirisena is thinking that by sending an officer to look at the family that lives on Murunga leaves he can contain the malaise that has hit Sri Lanka. Maybe he has forgotten a sizeable section of the nation is living on croton, jak, mango – you are right anything they can get their hands on.

This is the man 6.2 Million idiots in Sri Lanka elected as their President hoping for a better world. They deserve each other!

This is the result of neglecting farmers and irrigation for a long time. Instead of expensive infrastructure for the rich (walking tracks, expressways, tallest building, floating markets, cricket stadiums – we had enough, satellites, etc.) we should have built irrigation schemes that work to serve the poor.

At least this simple Simon reads local newspapers though nothing happens! I don’t think others even read newspapers.
