The United National Party members who had joined with Mahinda Rajapaksa will not return to the UNP, says former Minister Basil Rajapaksa.

Addressing a public meeting held in Meegoda area, the former Minister said that he is making this comment as a respect to those members.

Furthermore, the rumours which claim that certain members of Sri Lanka Freedom Party would join the government are unwarranted and that most of the MPs have already informed the President and Mahinda Rajapaksa in this regard, Basil Rajapaksa noted.

    The PRIMARY BENEFIT of this FIASCO of MIS-GOVERNANCE is that ABSENT DEFECTIONS by SLFP MPs to the UNP, the UNP has LOST the 2/3 Majority in Parliament REQUIRED to FIDDLE with the CONSTITUTION, SPECIFICALLY to PASS the 20th AMENDMENT! It has ALSO UNIFIED & BROUGHT TOGETHER the SLPP & SLFP in a COMMON OPPOSITION to the UNP in any FUTURE ELECTION!

    The TNA will, HOWEVER, EXTRACT its POUND OF FLESH from the TREACHEROUS UNP, in other LESS DISASTROUS ways to CONSOLIDATE their HOLD on the North & EAST!

    @Ananda-USA
    Be honest. To achieve that “primary benefit”, why they needed such a drama and loose so many middle votes ?
    Sirisena could have walked out of government together with SLFP ministers. He doesn’t need to drag Mahinda to this fiasco which destroyed the country for more than a month at a great cost to nation.
    If they simply sat in a much bigger JO, UNP government could have been brought down slowly but surely.
    If Mahinda doesn’t change, TNA will surely extract flesh even from him. This is the point people should PRESS into minds of Mahinda&Co.
    I have no faith at all of Sirisena, he will change his mind ( assuming he was not the mastermind of this fiasco)

    This is not the time for high jump, long jump or hop step and jump like frogs in the lake but to show patriotism to your motherland and help to get rid of our enemies and build our nation. Voters should choose between patriotic and unpatriotic and select the best out of best to represent us in the parliament not the same old high jumpers, cutthroats, thugs and drug lords etc. We need a clean new set up whether it’s from Rajapaksa or Ranil or Sirisena or any other. Enough is enough our motherland is more valuable than any other issues so please be united and help each other to build a new country a Sinhala Buddhist country. Jayawewa!!!!

    We don’t have honest and respectable leaders/politicians in SL any more. The era of respectable and honest leaders like Soloman Dias Bandaranayke, DS and Dudley Senanayakas are long gone.

    What we have now is a bunch of dishonest, cunning, self-serving, horse traders, who can be bought if the price is right.

    The elected parliamentarians, all 225 of them, and their leaders are deal makers. Parliament is a horse barn where the deals are made, while the partisan Speaker bullshits about upholding the parliamentary values such as democracy, rule of law, honesty, integrity, etc. It’s a joke!

    Their motto: “To hell with the country. As long as we can make deals and money, we will hang on by hook or crook.”

    I have no hopes, whatsoever, that this corrupted money-culture/mentality will be eliminated any time soon, as long as the Sri Lankan voters keep electing same old political parasites over and over.

    Only people have the power to change the country – not the politicians. By voting blindly, like brain-washed herd of buffalos due to their party loyalty, voters will keep electing same old crooks over and over.

    I hope younger generation of Lankan voters will think outside of the old political box, and vote with their heads to elect honest and patriotic leaders who truly care for the country.

    Until that happen, I don’t see how Sri Lanka is going to escape this cancerous and vicious cycle of political maneuvering by self-serving, and a cunning bunch of politicians/crooks…?
