Customs officers at Colombo Harbour refrain from work

Customs officers attached to the Colombo Harbour have decided to refrain from work in protest over the alleged decision to appoint a retired navy officer as the new Director General of Sri Lanka Customs.
Ad Derana reporter said that all customs officers at the Colombo Harbour excluding those in the Export Division are currently engaged in trade union action and are refraining from carrying out duties.
The trade union action has been launched in protest over reports that retired Rear Admiral Dr. Shemal Fernando is tipped to be appointed as the new Director General of Customs.
The Customs trade Union Alliance says that according government laws and regulations the position of Director General can only be held by a Special Grade Officer from the State Administration Service of Sri Lanka Customs.
The association also said that they continue to engage in trade union action starting from today (30) until the decision is reversed.

There is some inconsistency here.
If the last Director General of Customs is clean as some argue, Customs people will strike work with her appointment, not removal. It is an open secret the Customs is the most corrupt place. And they want their DG to continue.
I would agree with the popular view if the Customs is generally a clean place that does not tolerate corruption. But it is not the case. They have struck work because a clean navy officer is appointed!
The socalled anti-corruption group is in fact an arm of the corrupt!

Looks like very consistent – Sirisena does the opposite of UNP.
Divayina Reports differently. While a Tamil has been appointed as Governor for North ( by Sirisena) why is this honest Tamil lady removed (by UNP ) ?

Main reason for sacking Mrs. Charles is she is an obstruction to Pal Horu and Kudu Mudalalis from both sides of politics. Politicians of both sides including TNA has not made any noise so far.
HG Sumanasinghe new acting DG of Customs

The Director General of the Treasury HG Sumanasinghe has been appointed as the Acting Director General of the Sri Lanka Customs.
The Ministry of Finance said the appointment was made on a temporary basis following discussions with Customs officials who are currently engaged in a work to rule campaign, until a solution is reached over the matter.
Officers attached to the Sri Lanka Customs are engaged in a work to rule campaign since last evening against the appointment of an external officer unrelated to the administration field as the Director General of the Customs Department.
Meanwhile NewsRadio contacted the Customs Officials Union whether a decision has been made to call off the union action following the temporary appointment of an Acting Director General.
Responding to the inquiry Media Spokesman of the Union Dr. NS Kumanayake said a final decision pertaining to the matter will be reached following discussions with Customs officials.
He said the work to rule campaign will continue to remain in place until a final decision pertaining to the matter is reached.

If so why on earth do Customs officers want her so badly? Don’t buy media reports and what the socalled “anti-corruption” loud voices say. Look for inconsistency.
I agree with you if Customs officers are clean and hate corruption. Is that the case!
The new proposed appointment (ex-navy officer) would be strict against corruption. This is now an economic necessity because of the economic crisis we are in. That is the real reason to tighten the screws. Obviously some are going to lose the millions.

We cannot say all at customs are corrupt. There are a lot of evidence that Mrs. Charles was an obstruction to corrupt UNPeers. All indications are that she is honest in this case. While corrupt are fighting to get rid of her, other fight for the injustice.
How do you say ex-navy man is honest just because of he is a ex-Navy man ?

වසරකට රජයේ ආදායමට රේගුවෙන් සියයට 35% ක ආදායමක් ලබා දෙනවා. 2019 ජනවාරි අට වනවිට බිලියන 17.58, 2018 බිලියන 920.9 ද, 2017 බිලියන 918.6 ද රේගු ආදායම ලබා දී තිබෙනවා. එහෙත් පසුගිය කාල වකවානුව තුළ රජයට අහිමි වූ රේගු බදු ආදායම රු. බිලියන 131 ද, පෙට‍්‍රල් ඞීසල් අඩු කිරීම තුළ බිලියන 30 කද, රථ වාහනවල එන්ජින් ධාරිතාව මත බදු අඩුකිරීමෙන් රු. බිලියන 4 ද රටට අහිමි වී තිබෙනවා. ඒ වගේම ආණ්ඩුවේ ඉහළ ඇමැතිවරයකුගේ රැුකවරණය මත වියට්නාමයෙන් බාල ගම්මිරිස් ටොන් 2800 ක් කන්ටේනර් 134 ක් බදු නොගෙවා මෙරටට ගෙන්වා මෙරට ගම්මිරිස්වලට කලවම් කර ප‍්‍රතිඅපනයනය කිරීම තුළින් රටට අහිමි වුණ ආදායම ඩොලර් මිලියන 9 ක්. තීරු බදු නොගෙවා ගෙන්වූ පොල්තෙල් මෙ. ටොන් 469 ගෙන්වීම තුළ රු. මිලියන 81.3 අහිමි වුණා. ඒ වගේම ප‍්‍රීමා පිටි ගෙන්වීම තුළ රේගුවට අයවිය යුතු රු. මිලියන 475 රේගුව අය කර ගන්න ගිය විට අගමැති කාර්යාලය බලපෑම මත එය වැළකී ගියා. මේ අන්දමට විවිධ බලපෑම් සහ ඇමැතිවරුන්ගේ සහෝදරයන්ගේ සහ හිතවතුන්ගේ බලපෑම් මත මේවට ඉඩ දෙන ලෙස බලපෑම් කළා. එවැනි තත්ත්වයක් මත රේගු නිලධාරීන් අයින් වීමේ තත්ත්වයක් ඇති වුණා. එම නිසා මොවුන් විශ‍්‍රාමික නාවික හමුදා නිලධාරියකු හරහා මේ ටික කරගන්න හදනවා.
