‘TNA won’t allow Gota to become President’

Former Defence Secretary, Gotabaya Rajapaksa should stop dreaming of the executive presidency because the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) would ensure that he would never secure it, TNA Kilinochchi District MP, S. Shritharan told media yesterday.
The TNA would also not allow Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa to become the President, the MP said. “We decided to support the budget 2019 because we want to prevent Mahinda Rajapaksa from returning to power,” he said.
Certain sections were trying to overthrow this government and come into power by defeating the budget, Shritharan said. However the TNA would not allow such an eventuality to happen, he added.
“A large number of people want Mahinda Rajapaksa to become President, but this will never happen as long as we are here,” he said.
Gotabaya has declared his willingness to contest the presidential election and it has been widely speculated that Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) is likely to field former Defence Secretary, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa as their Presidential candidate.

With a pathetic vote base of less than 5%, what the hell can TNA do?
Mahinda lost in 2015 because he neglected Sinhala people since 2010 (except the Southern Province Sinhalese) and wasted money in the north. Tamil votes are mostly irrelevent to the presidential election. Here are the past results.
1982 – JR lost the north but won the election.
1988 – RP lost the north but won the election.
1994 – first exception.
1999 – CBK lost the north but won the election.
2005 – MR lost the north but won the election.
2010 – MR lost the north but won the election.
2015 – second exception

I thought MR won for the very first time because LTTE didn’t allow voting in the North.
Has Dilrook forgotten his “Yarl Devi” theory which defeated MR in 2015 ? They may do it easily this time because of UNP government.

A challenge to Sinhalese majority. These pro-LTTE Tamil bastards backed by the LTTE Diaspora has the audacity to dictates terms on how we should elect our next leaders.
The Sinhala majority by now must realise that they should NOT let these minority-based political parties and their supporters like Ranil make the decision on future of our country. It would be a disaster if Sinhalese let that happen. Our country will be ruined if we continue to ignore the current reality of traitors who are busy selling off our country.
My plea to Sinhala voters is forget about political parties and vote for a brave, and a patriotic leader like Gotabaya, who will be the only person capable of saving SL from the current mess.

It is the PEOPLE who should decide who the leaders/policymakers of this country should be, not crooked politicians from any of these parties, especially racist ones.
It is a crying shame that we do not have honest people at the top as in our early days of independence. Such ethnic based parties should be banned from contesting. The Gal Oya schemes and Ethnic Integration policies should be reintroduced to ensure national harmony. And honest representatives elected from which an honest President/Prime Minister should run the governance properly.
We are stuck with Indian bootlicking politicians. Both this current lot and the previous lot are the same and appease India and tolerate the likes of the TNA/SLMC etc. And the mainstream parties are full of incompetent morons.
@Nihal Perera – If GR categorically:
1. States he will remove the 13th amendment (he has gone completely silent on this matter)
2. Removes any sycophants of the SLFP/SLPP/UNP/others who surrounded MR etc and who are jumping onto his bandwagon, from his campaign
3. Puts forward a competent team of honest people and not lackeys
4. States he will reintroduce the Integration policies that were treacherously halted by Bandaranaike
5. Stops any nonsense about “India is our brother” and utter rubbish like that (recently he has said stupid things about China only being commercial and we’ll take India’s concerns into account)
6. Does not allow his campaign to merely be a vehicle for MR to run the country as he did before post 2010
THEN GR is worthy of a vote. But every voter of the country, especially the Sinhalese should vote for someone who is honest and will carry out the national interest and develop this place into a first world country within 10-12 years. We have lost 10 years since the war ended getting hardly anywhere. We could have achieved many more things by now, but are run by inept incompetent politicians on BOTH sides of Parliament. Frankly all 226 at the top are utterly useless.
Frankly I am shocked that GR didn’t resign given the previous administration didn’t carry out patriotic policies and just appeased India post 2010. One thing you have to give the idiots who took over in 2015 to my dismay, is that they are at least openly traitors. MR appears to have learnt zero lessons if he is willing to work with Sirisena who is an Indian lackey.
There are at least two other candidates who have announced they will run. And BOTH of those alternatives seem to have the support of technocratic non political patriots who are not pro-India. And BOTH have said they will remove the wretched 13th amendment. I have not hear RW, MS, MR, GR etc say they will. So none are worthy of the Sinhalese vote over the new candidates then. At least one candidate has also said they will categorically BAN ethnic based parties like the TNA.
