Leaders of the country were acting according to the whims and fancies of external forces and the government should immediately resign and allow those who were capable of governing the county to take over, Archbishop of Colombo Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith told devotees at St. Sebastian’s Church, Katuwapitiya, which was reconsecrated yesterday.

The Cardinal said that Muslims in the country were not responsible for the Easter Sunday attacks and that it was carried out by a group of misguided youth to fulfil the desires of foreign nations that wanted to destabilise the country.

The Cardinal said: “This government has dismantled the intelligence agencies that were once very strong. This was done to fulfil the needs of international organizations and NGOs. When the security forces detected a training camp used by extremists at Wanathawilluwa, the extremists who were arrested were freed.”

The prelate said that the authorities had also ignored the destruction of Buddha statues at Mawanella and the extremists had shot the person who helped the police apprehend the perpetrators.

“The leadership of the country also ignored numerous clues on the preparations of the extremists,” said the Cardinal.

  1. DR M D P DISSANAYAKE Says:

    Hon. Cardinal
We unreservedly salute you for calling this government to resign. This is the last nail in the coffin of this anti-Sri Lankan Government headed by two donkeys, Ranil and Maithree.

  2. Dilrook Says:

    Exceptionally courageous.

To be truthful and to call a spade a spade, far better than politicised Buddhist Nikayas (though one has recently shown some strength to speak up while another is not worth even mentioning).

  3. Mario Perera Says:

This is CATHOLIC ACTION emanating from its SUMMIT, even praised by ones who DETEST CATHOLIC ACTION!

His Eminence says: the government should immediately resign and allow those who were capable of governing the county to take over.

Herein lies the question. Who are they, those who are capable of governing the country? Voice will prop up with the name: MAHINDA…or one of his surrogates. Mahinda, it must be remebered is not only a name. It is also a question: MA-HINDA (because of me). Indeed Mahinda can beat his breast and cry out: MA-HINDA. He was the one best placed to solve this now out of hand issue. The best moment for that was immediately after the war. One will remember his thundering speech in parliament declaring the war victory. Tamils were fleeing the country in droves, not for fear of persecution, but to fill their pockets with foreign money. Jaffna had literally emptied itself. Vast numbers were in refugee camps, while others had vacated everything and gone.

The vacant land was no one’s land. They had belonged to the LTTE, and then passed into government hands. Thousands of Sinhala and Muslims had been DRIVEN out of their possessions in the north. But their claims were totally swept aside. The northern political forces once regained regained their feet and vociferously demanded power over these lands taken from the LTTE at the cost of the lives of thousands of Sinhala soldiers. And once again, in the image and likeness of his ancestors at the helm of power, Mahinda bent backwards to the ground and yielded. He spat on the blood of the fallen Sinhala soldiers. His purpose was to remain in power and to consolidate it by catering to the Tamils. The land went back to the treacherous hands that claimed it. Indeed the massive budget allocated to the rebuilding of Jaffna surpassed all other. Mahinda must beat his breast and cry out: MA-HINDA.

And so the question lies: who are these others capable of assuming power? That the nincompoops Maithri and Ranil must go is a foregone conclusion. Is it Mahinda and goons these capable ones? You must be kidding. By their fruits we have already known them

Presidential elections will come. Someone has to win and assume power. And so, there we will go ’round the mulberry bush’. There we will go on the unending merry-go-round. We will once again be, Like T.S.Eliot said: on the wheel that turns but still is still forever.

Dilrook mentions one who ‘recently has shown some strength to speak up’. Who was it I wonder? Why not have mentioned him by name?

His Eminence the Cardinal earned the admiration of the whole nation because of his brave attitude. He became a hero overnight, especially among Buddhists, on account of the role he played after the terror attack on April 21. His words and deeds made a special impression on Sinhala Buddhists because they, as the most persecuted community under the current regime, have still not got similar succour from the Mahanayakes. Honest patriotic junior monks like Ven. Gnanasara would not have been demonised by the mercenary media and NGOs if these Mahanayakes had behaved like the cardinal.

  5. Lionel Says:

Hats off for the Hon Cardinal. Great message for all Sri Lankans, especially for people in the little Rome. Any way, what Sajith doing there?

  6. Dilrook Says:

Sirisena has lost his head over Cardinal’s revelation.

He tries to prove that he has a backbone citing events of 2015. Poor Sirisena. He says April 21 terrorists were all killed. What nonsense. All that were killed committed suicide! A lot more is out there.

  7. Randeniyage Says:

Sirisena is a disgrace to mankind.

  8. aloy Says:

Not only this government, the previous Ali baba set also should leave politics for good. When people wanted to get rid of them in 2015, another set struck a deal and came to power and what they have done is mind boggling. We pay heavy taxes for the government to maintain law and order. But the law has become an ass under the corrupt judicial system. The judges in them are not learned enough and has to go to US to learn their systems. Then they come and give judgements according to US laws, not according to Roman Dutch law which is the law of the country. It is not the country they are protecting but the criminals and terrorist.
Just because they came to power by votes is not good enough to remain in power. The bond investigation has proved beyond any doubt that they are not reliable.

A week ago we were told in a meeting that the deputy leader of UNP Mr. Premadasa of who has no concern about destruction of environment in Wilpattu had appointed a 94 year old man as his adviser. The funny thing is that our prez also has appointed the same man as his adviser on the following day. All these appointments entails some perks. Perhaps tax payers will have to meet his expenses when he enter hospital because politicos wants some votes from his people. Our money has become Micky Mouse money; they can just play around with it as they wish.

  10. Ananda-USA Says:

Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith has courageously voiced the feelings of all patriots who love Sri Lanka.

Unfortunately, it has evoked an agitated response from President Sirisena, instead of from its main target the Yamapalanaya leaders of the UNP, primarily Ali Baba and his 40 thieves comprising Ali Baba Ranil Wikunanasinghe himself, and his 40 thieves such as Avamangala Samaraweera, Malik Samaraweera, Eran Wickramaratne, Ravi Karunanayagam, Rajitha Senaratne, Jayampathy Wickramaratne ad infinitum, ad nauseam!

Sirisena has taken it as a PERSONAL ATTACK on himself alone, whereas the blame should be accepted more by the PM’s goons!

Now, Ali Baba will stay quiet and let President Sirisena take ALL the BLAME! FOOLISH Sirisena walked into the trap!
