Decisive discussions between President Maithripala Sirisena and Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa to form a broad alliance, between the SLFP and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, to contest the next Presidential Poll were successfully concluded, informed sources said yesterday (06). These talks were held following stalled discussions in the recent past.

Talks had ended on a cordial note and both leaders decided to inform colleagues to continue ongoing discussions between the two Parties before forming a strong and viable political alliance to contest the upcoming Polls. Sources said they decided to instruct the Parliamentarians of both Parties on how to conduct further talks and formulate a future alliance. Discussions had taken place from 9.30 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. on 05 August at the former’s Malalasekera Mawatha residence.

Sirisena is an invalid coin today. Mahinda doesn’t need him but Sirisena needs Gotabaya to survive politically.

FURTHER CONFIRMATION that Gota will be the OPPOSITION Presidential Election Candidate!
Formal announcement of Candidate slated for August 11.

Futhermore, Sajith has agreed with Ranil on the REVISIONS to the Constitution of the DNF. That means, that Sajith will be the DNF Presidential Candidate!

So, I think it will be Gota Vs Sajith, the STRONGEST candidates of both camps!

Gotabhaya Rajapaksa will be the NEXT PRESIDENT of Sri Lanka! Jayawewa, frantic building of homes on Govt Land with borrowed Govt Money NOTWITHSTANDING! Jayawewa!

But, when Gota wins, he will have to cope with the POISON PILL: PAYING the MASSIVE GOVERNMENT DEBT accumulated by this PROFLIGATE GOVT that is spending borrowed money like CRAZY until the LAST MOMENT to win the Election in a LAST DITCH EFFORT, more than DOUBLING the NATIONAL DEBT in 2015!

I feel SORRY for ourselves, the helpless CITIZENS of Sri Lanka, who will have to PAY THOSE LOANS OFF! Why not INTRODUCE the DEATH PENALTY for GROSS FINANCIAL MISMANAGEMENT?

Sri Lankan presidential hopeful Gotabaya Rajapaksa renounces US citizenship

Aug 08 (Reuters) COLOMBO- Gotabaya Rajapaksa, a key politician in Sri Lanka’s civil war, has renounced U.S. citizenship, paving the way for him to make a bid on his country’s presidency.

Sri Lanka does not allow dual citizenship and foreign nationals cannot contest elections.

Gotabaya, a defence chief during the civil war that ended in 2009 and the younger brother of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, announced late April that he would run in the presidential election due later this year.

He is very popular among Sri Lanka’s politically powerful Sinhala Buddhist majority, which accounts for 70 percent of the country’s 21 million population.

“I can say Gotabaya Rajapaksa has renounced his U.S. citizenship,” Basil Rajapaksa, former economy minister and Gotabaya’s brother, told a news conference on Thursday.

Gotabaya, along with his then-president brother Mahinda, is credited with having crushed the Tamil Tiger insurgent group in 2009 but he has also been accused of human rights violations, especially in the closing stages of the 26-year war.

He is facing war-related lawsuits in the United States and the claims had earlier been expected to delay the process of him dropping U.S. citizenship.

Gotabaya has rejected the allegations of human rights abuse.

Basil Rajapaksa’s party, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, is widely expected to nominate Gotabaya as its candidate for the presidential election on August 11.

Mahinda Rajapaksa, the current opposition leader, will be named as party chief the same day, Basil said.

Quote – The SLPP heavyweight said that both he and ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa met former Chief Minister of the then temporarily merged North-Eastern province Varatharaja Perumal.

Get ready to change the goalpost again. Political henchmen will say Varatharaja Perumal is a patriot and not the biggest separatist! The only person in Lankan history to declare Independence for Tamil Eelam on 1 March 1990.

How desperate are these politicians. They will sell anything and anyone for a few votes.

2019 prez poll: SLPP readies for challenge in North, reassures Western powers

    By Shamindra Ferdinando

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), yesterday, said that it was in the process of working out electoral arrangements in the Northern, Eastern and Central regions and addressing contentious issues raised by those members of the international community with the previous administration.

The SLPP was not worried about the challenge posed by the four-party Tamil National Alliance (TNA) in the Northern and Eastern Provinces at the forthcoming 2019 presidential election, SLPP strategist Basil Rajapaksa said. Illankai Thamil Arasu Kadchi (ITAK) led TNA includes the EPRLF, TELO and PLOTE.

The former SLFP National Organiser said so in response to queries raised by The Island at a press conference called by the party at Kingsbury where its Chairman Prof. G.L. Peiris explained the pathetic situation in key sectors, including the economy since the last presidential election in January 2015.

The former External Affairs Minister alleged that a state of anarchy prevailed in the absence of a properly functioning administration.

Secretary of the SLPP attorney-at-law and one-time State Counsel Sagara Kariyawasam was also present on the occasion.

Asked by The Island how the SLPP would proceed in predominately Tamil regions against the backdrop of the TNA declaring it wouldn’t support a presidential candidate fielded by the Rajapaksas under any circumstances, former Economic Affairs Minister Basil Rajapaksa said that the TNA was no longer what it used to be. He said that the results of the last local government elections in Feb 2018 showed that the TNA support base was shrinking.

The former SLFP strongman said that the TNA was able to poll more than 50 per cent only in two Local Government bodies out of 34 in the two provinces. “We are in the process of talking with those doing politics there-both political parties and individuals,” Rajapaksa said.

The SLPP heavyweight said that both he and ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa met former Chief Minister of the then temporarily merged North-Eastern province Varatharaja Perumal.

    Continues.

  4. Randeniyage Says:

According to Dilrook’s news item, tactic would be to merge the two province again and handover to Perumal. He will get rid of Muslim State completely with government’s support. Government could then go for another war at the cost of lives of another 30000 Sinhalese and another younger Dutugemunu created.

No big politician cares about lives lost. They have demonstrated this again and again. People are dying on roads today more than at a rate died during war
