Former Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Vigneswaran said that the Government had allegedly paid cash to the Parliamentarians of the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) in order to coax them into their camp prior to the 16 November Presidential Poll.

He made this comment to the Tamil media regarding the decision taken by the ITAK to support the New Democratic Front Presidential nominee, Minister Sajith Premadasa at the coming Poll.

He said: “It is obvious that the ITAK had taken this decision without thinking of the public, but only of the Party. Even the People’s Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam had claimed that they too agree with the decision taken by the ITAK. However, the Eelam People’s Revolutionary Liberation Front and our Party, the Tamil Peoples Collective, have taken a firm decision not to support any of the nominees at Poll. Therefore, it is up to the Tamil people to vote for whatever nominee of their choice. It is clear to us that the ITAK has taken this decision to support the Government having obtained money from for development work.”
