PRESIDENTIAL SECRETARY- P B JAYASUNDERA
Posted on November 18th, 2019

By M D P DISSANAYAKE

Dr P B Jayasundera brings three vital skills.  Financial management, Economic Policy implementation and Public Administration with extensive knowledge of Financial Regulations (FR).

In the past, he has successfully managed Spending against Budget.  But now as Presidential Secretary, he extends his arms right across.    He will not allow distributing, for example, SIL REDI during an election campaign even if the President wishes to do so. The President will have a Peace of Mind with PBJ in charge of the machine so that his attention could be diverted to drive his Policies.

In this role,  the person must be a Neutral Advisor, who cannot be bullied around. In this role, he or she must be a Protector of the Office of the Presidency.  In this role, he needs to ensure the Funds of the State are not released Light Heartedly.

    Who is PBJ?.
He is none other than a crooked civil servant of the caliber of notorious Paski, who was found guilty by SC after a protracted case involved in bribery and corruption. He was prohibited from holding office by the SC but was brought back by MR using another well known SC judge about whom the previous Prez gave a good description.

Perhaps prez Gota is going to appoint this person for the help he might have given for the use of World Bank Project funds for the Metro Colombo Urban Development Project on Urban Beautification which is not the primary aim. As a result this important project is still limping after almost seven years of commencement and is one of the worst performing projects of World Bank.

If this is an indication how our new prez is going to work then it is an indication where we are heading. We will have another five years of conflicts in governance. The happiest person will be RW who will certainly live to fight another day within the next six months.

WW was a critic of PBJ in the past. I don’t think bringing him is a good idea either. Gota should have given LW a chance to be back.

    Randeniyage,

Mark my word “crooked” in describing the man; not straight at all. And I have a letter addressed to me by LW giving him instructions in 2007 by MR when I wrote to him requesting him to go for an all out war with tigers saying that we can win it easily. I also mentioned that as expatriate work force we will fund the war effort. I also said that his name will be written in gold one day. Despite all short comings that has happened and that is why people kept faith in Gota and rallied round him.

This guy did not care about those instructions, may be he has his own agendas. When our new Prez selected him I was surprised. But he may be having his own reasons to trust him. So, let us wish him good luck.
Whatever it is this land is blessed and we shall not go down to anybody, be it India or western, ever again. Our people proved that they will stand together whenever the need arise.

    Aloy,
Agree with you, but I suspect the ultimate betrayal of Sinhala people while hoping it will not happen.
Will the Sinhala people be fooled again and again to undergo extreme hardships ?
With this mandate it is the time to start with the most important item (getting rid of 13A) with 2/3 majority. They are coming together to steal public money on their pensions instead.
Rather than jubilation people should demand stopping of wastage on politicians.
