Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) has been granted permission by the court to record a statement from Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara regarding the road accident involving former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka.

IGP Pujith Jayasundara is currently under remand custody over a case on the Easter Sunday attacks.

This order has been issued by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court considering a request made to the court by the CCD.

The request by the CCD stated that the name of IGP Jayasundara was revealed during the investigations on the alleged hit-and-run case involving MP Patali Champika Ranawaka.

Therefore, Officer-in-Charge of the Colombo Crimes Division Chief Inspector Neville Silva requested permission to record a statement from the remanded IGP on the incident.

Accordingly, Colombo Additional Magistrate Lochani Abeywickrama ordered the Prison Superintendent to allow the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to record a statement from the IGP at the Prison premises between the 26th and 30th December.

Further, the Additional Magistrate ordered several telecommunication companies to provide a report to the CCD on call details of 20 mobile phone SIM cards found during the investigation on the case.

Meanwhile, former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka is currently under remand over an alleged hit-and-run case in 2016.
