1. The country is facing a shortage of electricity

2. CEB is purchasing power from private suppliers paying excess of Rs 30 per unit.

3. World’s technology has advanced for solar and wind producing electricity at less than Rs.3 per unit.

4. Our country is blessed with sun’s energy throughout the year and high winds day and night throughout the year.

5. Our solar and winds are capable of delivering our total electricity requirements.

6. Local investors are prepared to supply our electricity needs at around Rs. 10 a unit within 3 years with own funding, if allowed.

7. But our Minister of Power and Energy is unaware of above facts.

8. He is asking Cabinet approval for 2 more coal power plants at Norochchalai.

9. The President proposed to produce 75 percent of electricity with renewables by 2030.

10. If local investors are allowed the target could be met by 2025.

When you consider the pathetic situation to provide basis need of all Sri Lankan in Electricity & water we have to blame two main political parties who “ruined” the country during last 72 years. What these 2 main parties have done simply change to legislations to suite their need to be in power and make quick money by bribery & mega robberies. Having many rivers flowing rain water all over the country and surrounded all four sides by sea, country is blessed with sun’s energy throughout the year and high winds day and night throughout the year we still have “water Cut” & “power Cut”.
Just see many middle eastern countries & some Asian countries like Singapore does not have rain water or rivers. But no water Cut or Power Cut. Who is to be blame dragging this country to this situation? Its the 2 political parties still controlling the country. What a shame.
