59 confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Sri Lanka

UPDATE (4.22 p.m.) – Three more Coronavirus patients have been identified today bringing the total confirmed cases in Sri Lanka to 59.
 
Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe said a small child, a 64-year-old patient from Colombo North Teaching Hospital and 23-year-old youth from IDH Hospital have tested positive for the virus. 

He revealed this while responding to a question during the press breifing of the National Operation Center for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak.


Four more patients have tested positive for Coronavirus bringing the total of confirmed cases in Sri Lanka to 56, the Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe said today.

He stated that as of yesterday (18) a total of 52 patients had been identified and that four more confirmed cases were reported so far today.

Speaking at a special press briefing, the Director General said that two of the new patients are the daughter and wife of a previous patient while the other two are from quarantine centers and they had arrived in the country from Italy recently.

All confirmed patients are receiving treatment at the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) in Angoda.

Meanwhile, 243 suspected Covid-19 patients are currently being treated at selected hospitals in the country.

The majority of the confirmed cases are males (81%) while 45.2% percent of the patients are of the ages between 41 to 50 years, according to a situation report of the Epidemiology Unit.
