Apropos the vituperative news item “Gota’s Junta Consolidates after SC Ruling: Ceylon Telegraph 5th June 2020 by an anonymous writer
Posted on June 12th, 2020

Comments by Dr. Sudath Gunasekara former Secretary to Prime Minister Sirimavo Badaranayaka and President Sinhala Bauddha Jestha Puravesiyanage Sanvidhanaya Mahanuwara and member viyath manga Kandy Branch.

Your Excellency the President of Sri Lanka, hearty cheers and congratulations on your bold and patriotic decision to appoint a set of vibrant and proactive professionals who blends patriotism and loyalty to you   as a Presidential Task force to build a secure country, disciplined, virtuous and lawful society” and also to protect the ancient sacred Buddhist places in the Northern and Eastern Provinces in this thrice blessed Island by Gautama the Buddha (We wish he will extend this Task Force to cover the whole Island very soon). In addition to the above objectives, I have no doubt your Task Force will also convert this country to an economically prosperous, vibrant and peaceful country by eradicating the tyranny of minority politics sawn by Tamil and Muslim in this Land of the Sinhala Nation, as it was known all over the world for the past 2500 years.

We the discriminated and utterly neglected and betrayed Sinhala Buddhist Bhumiputras of this Island nation for the past 72 years by all post Independent governments since the colonial British left the shores of this Island after conferring fake Independence, congratulate you for this historic action you have taken by appointing, a powerful Task force of patriotic and competent persons with wide powers as stated in the terms of reference of that Task force. This in fact was a long overdue duty and it constitutes the first visionary step ever taken by any statesman in the post- Independence era in order to rebuild our motherland on the correct lines by restoring the birth rights and the unique culture of the sons of the soil after 72 years of appalling neglect by all post Independent Governments. I have no doubt it will therefore usher in a golden period in statecraft in the history of our motherland.

Furthermore it will go down in the annals of history of this Island nation as a gloving land mark and a turning point in statecraft in this country full of vision followed by concrete results since I see it as a welcome departure from the stale practice of blindly following the British colonial system of governance meant only to collect the maximum revenue for the Empire as if we never had an advance system of statecraft of our own, little realizing that we were a nation with a rich heritage and a legacy running in to  2500 years or more, long before the British became a civilized nation.  At least ever since the advent of Buddhism in 307 BC this country had remained as a Sinhala Buddhist country and the land was known as Sinhale up to 1815. It was ruled by Sinhala Buddhist Kings. The state language was Sinhala. At no time in its history Tamils and Muslims were considered as separate nations. They constituted a part and parcel of the Sinhala nation in the Sinhale. As such no one identified this country as a multi- national, multi-religious and multi linguist country at any time in recorded history, until President Premadasa declared so driven by minority votes.

Actually these are the social germs invented by the British to consolidate their rule within a divide and rule policy they practiced right from the beginning of their occupation to destabilize and destroy the Sinhala Buddhist civilization in this country.

It was the Sinhala people who originally found the civilization in this country and built and rebuilt after successive devastations by Cholas and other South Indian invaders from 2nd century BC to 12th century AD. Even in modern history when Europeans invaded from 1505 onwards up to 1948. The Tamils and Muslims always took the side of the invaders and they together conspired against the Sinhala Buddhists. The invaders promoted the minorities in different ways and even renamed names of rivers, land and even places in Tamil to support their occupation. It was the Sinhala patriotic people who defended the country against all of them while the Tamils and Muslims always took the enemy’s side and destroyed the Sinhala Buddhist monuments particularly in the North and the East. In more recent times the LTTE terrorist and Muslims Jihadists who encroached and invaded on destroyed and vandalized the ancient Sinhala Buddhist monuments that stood in the North and East and many other part of the country that were there for more than 2500 years as the hall mark of the civilization of this Island nation. These vandalisms in recent times were carried out  with the connivance and open support of the communal Tamil and Muslim politicians while the power hungry unpatriotic Sinhala, politicians in the South belonging to the UNP (as the fathers of the nation accepted multi-nationality even in 194when they agreed to name their Party as United National Party-that construed the concept of many nations) also turned a blind eye on such devastations  just to collect their venomous votes to be in power betraying the Sinhala Buddhists.

Next I would like to draw the attention of all patriotic people in this country to  the main issues raised by this writer in the  above article captioned Gota’s Junta Consolidates after SC Ruling.

First, he has tried to demonize the appointment of a Task force by the President by calling it an action that signals a major shift towards authoritarian leadership” This is exactly what the 6. 95 million people who voted for GR wanted and I presume even more people will definitely vote now for a secure country, disciplined, virtuous, prosperous and lawful society” that was lacking in this country for decades.  Today the need for a strong and patriotic leadership has become a foregone conclusion to rescue this country out of the mess, politicians have put it into, ever since 1948.

Second, criticizing the Supreme Court decision on June 2, 2020 as an act of paving the way for unchecked executive rule by the President. This I opine, is a defamatory comment that calls for immediate action against the writer for defamation of the Supreme court.

Third alleging the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa looks to be sidelining even the Cabinet of Ministers. is designed to create conflict between the President and the Cabinet and more particularly between GR and MR, which I think is only a day dream.  In fact the 69.5 million who voted Gotabhaya wanted to rectify the mistakes done by all politicians since Independence, including the lapses of his brother MR between the period 2009-2015 including the most important blunder, the failure to consolidate the war victory on ground all over the country as Dutugemunu and Vijayaba1 did after their victories over the South Indian invaders in history, and banning communal political Parties and declaring one law, one official Language (Sinhala) and  enacting a new Constitution based on our civilization which definitely no one would and could have opposed as he had  more than 2/3 majority in  Parliament and over 90 % public support in the country. MR‘s this failure I note as the biggest failure on his part in history that eclipse his landmark victory over the LTTE on ground. Therefore I deem it the onerous duty of the 69.5 million Sinhala Buddhist voters to demand and compel Gothabhaya to fulfill his sacred duty by the country and the nation by rectifying these historical injustices  done to this country and the Sinhala nation by all his predecessors and prove that he is the incarnation of Gothayimbara the legendary warrior of Dutugemunu in history and Anagarika Dharmapala, the only Sinhala Buddhist leader in Modern times.

Fourth the writer is also making an attempt to disrupt and demoralize the Public Service and set the sleeping public servants against the Gota’s regime by saying that by this act he is trying to establish control over the whole state machinery through his generals. It is aimed at weakening the morale of the Public Service by demoralizing and creating dissention among public servants. Well even in this field Gota is fully justified in making this decision for two reasons. In the first place the public service any more as has it has miserably failed to do its sacred duty by the public as today it has ceased to be a public service any more having converted to a domestic service of the Political Party in power for the time being, for their survival. To that extent these people are also equally responsible for the appalling situation in the country along with the politicians since 1948. Second It is the Armed forces that defeated the 30 year LTTE war and not the public service. In my opinion winning the present war of putting the country in order seems to be even much more difficult than winning the LTTE war. Because, the LTTE war was only 30 year old whereas the mess in the country is 515 years old (1505-2020). This fact also stands heavily in support of appointing military person to key positions in the machinery of Governance.

The writer who remains anonymous attributes his observations to legal experts” though he has not mentioned who these legal experts are except in one case where he has cited an attorney at law and Jaffna University faculty member Dr K. Guruparan whose existence has to be checked to hide the writer’s nakedness and he is also trying to add undue importance and weight to these ideas with the mischievous intention of arousing protest by public servants against the President both at home and in the international forum.

The writer is addressing this note to a specific group of people both at Home and abroad who are primarily anti-Sinhala anti Buddhist and anti Sri Lankan.  He also describes the President’s action as a threat to the supremacy of the Parliament and democracy.

Since the country knows better than this writer the nature of our Parliament and the kid of democracy displayed by its members over the years and also what service it has done to the country ever since Independence and its appalling performance particularly during the past 4 and ½ years, there is no point in talking about the supremacy of our Parliament.. When one looks at how undemocratically and illegally the members of the last Parliament were selected on a district basis and the so-called proportional and preferential systems by violating the basic principles of representative democracy it wants be difficult to understand the kind of democracy and the supremacy exists inside it.  Considering the enormous cost of maintaining a Parliament of 225 with fabulous facilities and life time fat pension with five years extending even to their spouses for no service done but only roaming in the corridors of Parliament, overall majority of people of this country today has come to the conclusion that it is much better to close down this monkey cage as one western writer has called and it is far far better to run the country by one authoritarian patriotic man if he can build a secure country, disciplined, virtuous and lawful society than leave in it in the hands of a clumsy, uneducated and underworld pack of  rogues, including Ministers and Prime Ministers who rob even the Nation’s Central Bank.

Meanwhile if you look at the terms of reference or the mandate given to the Taskforce all sensible people in the country will unanimously agree that this is exactly the type of governance this country needs today. The need for such strong and disciplined programme of action handled by a dedicated and committed patriotic team is the crying need of the hour to rescue this country and raise it in  to which it had been pushed in by all politicians who were supposed to have ruled this country (rather ruined) since Independence without a clear vision and a mission.

As for me I strongly believe that this is the way to run this country. I have been always arguing that only a benevolent Sinhala Buddhist dictator of the type of Dutugemunu or Dharmasoka can rescue this country from the Augean mess in to which it has been dumped by our politicians who had no vision or a mission to build a prosperous and a vibrant independent nation by taking in to consideration the geopolitical potentials of the country’s location on the globe and the bountiful natural resources of land, water and the ocean, right round it extending from Arica in the west to Australia in the East and from its shores to the Antarctic in the south plus the rich human resources overflowing with creativity and ingenuity as aptly displayed by our forefathers in the past who built a grand  monuments like the Ocean like reservoirs and sky high Stupas and marvelous irrigation works unmatched anywhere else in the ancient or modern world with a model of agrarian civilization unmatched by any in the world.

Who does it, whether civilians or uniformed men it does not matter a penny for the people. What they are interested is the end result. Security, Law and order, economic prosperity and freedom from hunger, peace and happiness in life and freedom from internal and external threats are the basic things people of any country are looking for as basic needs of contentment.

At the same time another person by the name Keerthaponcalan criticize this attempt as a move for Sinhalization and buddhissization the East and the North. It is a complete contradiction and a diabolical lie. Because in the first place all these areas were part and parcel of the Sinhala Kingdom, long before Tamils and Muslims moved in to this country in recent times. It was the Tamil and Muslim invaders who have destroyed the age old Buddhist monuments in these areas and trying to build Tamil and Muslim dream homelands on somebody else’s mother land, that was our traditional Homeland  for the past 2 ½ millennia while they have their own Homelands in South India and Arabia. These jokers must realize at least now that this was the land of the Sinhala nation for the past 2600 years and therefore they have no right to make any claim over it. But on the other hand the sons of the soil have a legitimate right and a claim as well over it as it was their ancestor’s homeland.

The Sinhala Buddhists who have been desperately crying for this kind of bold decision by a Sinhala leader ever since independence are overjoyed to read this news. I have no doubt they all hail and welcome the President’s decision as a long overdue dream come true and as such they all stand firmly with the President.

One last word about the uselessness of the Parliament and the provincial Councils. As we all know the Parliament has been now closed for nearly 4 months and the Provincial Councils almost for 3 and half years. How much of people’s money spent on these useless institutions have been saved over time?. How much of confusion in governance and administration we have avoided. What wonders have been done by one man, the President during the past three and half months without a noisy and divided Parliament and wasteful and clumsy Provincial Councils with the help of a lean Cabinet of 17 and almost 1/3 the existing state machinery?. Under this new system decisions are taken quickly ad their implementations are even quicker and effective as responsibilities are fixed on task masters. Public funds are not wasted on lotus eater politicians and their lackeys and they are now spent on the needs of the people. If one can get the job done effectively, and quickly at minimum cost to the satisfaction of the people the question is asked as to why we maintain these institutions like a mammoth Parliament of 225 and, nearly 112 Ministers there 36 Provincial Ministers who do nothing other than enjoying the perks and privileges at the expense of the pub and creating chaos in district administration.

As I it is today this country has one politician for every 2325 people and one public servant for every 16 people.  Thus we have gone on record as the country that has the largest number of politicians and the largest number of public Servants per capita in the whole world.

As such it is high time that we think of a system of lean State machinery comprising the minimum number of politicians and public servants that is affordable to the national economy. Every man and woman must earn his or her living by work. Maintaining a nationwide dansela  and breading  millions od Nikamas parasites is not the duty of a government.

Going by this wonderful experience of Gota’s governing majority of sane people in this country now think the new President who has already proved that he is a man with a clear vision and a deeply committed mission and equally good in action to convert this country to a disciplined, virtuous and lawful society with a vibrant and prosperous economy where law and order and justice will prevail for the happiness and wellbeing of its subjects should be given an open mandate to change the entire system of state craft and go for a lean and efficient Parliament. h Therefore he should be empowered to  with an overwhelming majority Parliament to make a new Constitution that suits this country and run the it with a small Cabinet and a lean public service  affordable to the country. The new Constitution should be enacted on the civilization of this country and install a Sabhyatva Raajyak” based on the history, customs and traditions and its overall culture as Gunadasa Amarasekara has pointed out.

Finally by going through the long list of responses to this article filled with blasphemous and indecent language used in them one can easily identify the people who rise up in arms against this move. It has aptly proved that the objective of the writer to rouse the anti- Sinhala- anti-Buddhist elements against Sinhala Buddhist model has been fulfilled perhaps even beyond his expectations and many extremists have hauled their voice criticizing the President’s action.

It is time now for the President Gothabhaya Rajapaksa to build up the  patriotic Sinhala Buddhist State as visualized by first by Anagarika Dharmapala the greatest Sinhala Buddhist revivalist leader born in this country during the colonial times (1865-1933) and initiated to a lesser extent by F.R Senanayaka before his untimely death in 1926 before his dream was put in to practice with his Janasabha movement and betrayed by all governments since then. This is the historic mission that has fallen on the new President and I wish that he will be blessed by the Tipple Gem and the pantheon of four fold Gods that preside over the destiny of this Island Nation.

Above all creation of a generation of patriotic people who love this country, its bountiful natural resources given by God and its people will form the glittering crest jewel of his crown.

This is an inspired piece of writing by a passionate patriot.

“….I have been always arguing that only a benevolent Sinhala Buddhist dictator of the type of Dutugemunu or Dharmasoka can rescue this country from the Augean mess in to which it has been dumped by our politicians who had no vision or a mission to build a prosperous and a vibrant independent nation by taking in to consideration the geopolitical potentials of the country’s location on the globe and the bountiful natural resources of land, water and the ocean, right round it extending from Arica in the west to Australia in the East and from its shores to the Antarctic in the south plus the rich human resources overflowing with creativity and ingenuity as aptly displayed by our forefathers in the past who built a grand monuments like the Ocean like reservoirs and sky high Stupas and marvelous irrigation works unmatched anywhere else in the ancient or modern world with a model of agrarian civilization unmatched by any in the world.”

Yes, I totally agree with Dr Gunasekera. Some of these marvels of ancient architecture and engineering skills of the Sinhalese are still serving the nation (people of Sinhale). It is part of that invaluable heritage that racists and religious lunatics of the north and east (who benefit most from them) are vandalizing, razing to the ground, and trying to erase the memory of.

“At the same time another person by the name Keerthaponcalan criticize this attempt as a move for Sinhalization and buddhissization the East and the North. It is a complete contradiction and a diabolical lie.” It is. Well said. They will still call us names like chauvinists, tribalists, xenophobes, and whatnot. No matter. They already habitually attack us with those descriptions, although we have never been any of those towards minorities.

Gotabaya is a no-nonsense administrator and a disciplined disciplinarian. He is a model of a compassionate Buddhist leader who will never betray the people for narrow political advantage. He has declared more than once that he doesn’t care about politics; he only wants government servants to do the right thing.

My own opinion is that for Sri Lanka to have true democracy (rule by the majority will in a country where all citizens are equal, where no community is discriminated against because they belong to the majority or to a minority), a leader like Gotabaya must govern the country for a time subject to the consensual agreement of the people, which, I for one, am sure will be demonstrated at the forthcoming parliamentary election.

  2. Susantha Wijesinghe Says:

PARLIAMENT HAS BEEN CLOSED FOR 4 MONTHS, AND PROVINCIAL COUNCILS FOR ABOUT 3 1/2 years. Are the MPs and Provincial Council Members being paid their monthly salaries ? Just like to know.
