Ministry of Health says that it has not taken a decision to change the current procedure of cremation of those who succumbed to COVID-19, Health Ministry Spokesman Dr. Jayaruwan Bandara said.

He said the current decision to cremate corpses of persons who tested positive for COVID-19 was taken by the Director General of Health considering scientific and technical reasons both related to the pandemic as well as the soil in Sri Lanka. He said a circular was issued in this regard. As of this moment there is no change in that decision, Dr. Bandara said.

Meanwhile, he said Sri Lanka still has a chance to avert a major disaster if everyone follows safety precautions to avoid being infected.

Commenting on several reports of suicide incidents reported in the county over fear of virus infections, Dr. Bandara said there is no need to be afraid of Covid-19.

Nearly 80 per cent of COVID-19 patients recovered completely without showing any symptoms. Most of other patients who recovered experienced some complications such as breathing difficulties and fever,” he said.

He said individual commitment is vital to avoid contracting the Coronavirus.

  1. Ratanapala Says:

    MR PRESIDENT,

    FOR YOUR EARS!

This government seems to be leaderless at the moment. All sorts of views and pronouncements are made by various politicians possibly addressing their vote banks on issues mostly they are not proficient to talk about. Most recent utterance is by Mahinda Amaraweera a lowly politician holding a ministerial position and famous for singing diferent tunes at different times serving multiple masters at one time!

It is up to the President to see that those who speak on his behalf do so with one voice. Presently the world in general and in our case Sri Lanka is particular is going through the rigours of a world pandemic. It is not a time to rise and shine for personal promotion.

IT IS OF PARAMOUNT IMPORTANCE FOR THE PRESIDENT TO LISTEN TO THE SCIENTIFIC AND HEALTH PROFESSIONALS AND ACT ACCORDINGLY. THE PEOPLE EXPECT ONE LAW FOR ALL.

AFTER TAKING A DECISION AFTER CAREFUL CONSIDERATION STICK TO IT – DONT WAIVER. IT SEEMS TO THE PUBLIC NOW YOU HAVE BEEN TAKEN PRISONER AND RINGFENCED BY INTERESTED PARTIES HOVERING AROUND YOU!

IF NOT PLEASE ACT ACCORDINGLY! 69 LAKHS OF PEOPLE DID NOT VOTE FOR YOU TO BE SEEN HELPLESS AND INDECISIVE LIKE NOW!

PEOPLE EXPECT TO SEE YOU LEADING FROM THE FRONT AND NOT THROUGH ‘FRONTS’! ADDRESS THE NATION FROM TIME TO TIME TO GIVE THEM ENCOURAGEMENT! THIS IS WHAT IS EXPECTED. IF NOT SOMEONE ELSE MIGHT FILL YOUR SHOES WITHOUT YOUR KNOWING!
