PHI Union Secretary M. Balasuriya said that alarming numbers were continuing to be detected from areas under isolation

Colombo, November 30 (Daily Mirror) – The Public Health Inspectors (PHI) Union yesterday warned that the COVID-19 pandemic had reached an ‘uncontrollable’ level within the Colombo Municipal Council city limits as a high number of patients were being detected on a daily basis.

PHI Union Secretary M. Balasuriya said that alarming numbers were continuing to be detected from areas under isolation while patients were also being detected from areas that were not under travel restrictions within the CMC city limits.

Balasuriya said that following the detection of a COVID-19 patient, measures must be taken to hospitalise the patient, trace close associates, conduct PCR tests and place them in quarantine – all within the course of a day, to prevent a spread.

Further stating that Sri Lanka was currently recording a high death toll from the virus, he said a large number of deaths were reported from the Colombo Port area, Modera and Borella.

The isolation status in Pettah, Foreshore and Mattakkuliya police areas in the Colombo District and Negombo and Ragama police areas in the Gampaha District were lifted from this morning while Modera, Bloemendhal, Kotahena, Grandpass, Dam Street, Wolfendhal Street, Maligawatte, Dematagoda, Keselwatte police areas and Wekanda and Wanathamulla Grama Niladhari Divisions will continue to remain isolated.
