A five-member Supreme Court judge bench has been appointed to hear the petition filed against the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Bill.

Chaired by Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, the bench consists of Supreme Court Judges Buwaneka Aluvihare, Priyantha Jayawardena, Murdu Fernando and Janak de Silva.

The petition, filed by Chairman of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) Engineer Kapila Renuka Perera, is expected to be taken up for hearing on the 19th of April.

In his petition, he stressed that certain clauses of the relevant Bill have violated the country’s Constitution.

He sought an order ruling that the clauses in the Bill must be passed by a two-thirds majority in Parliament and a referendum.

What economy other than berthing vessels that export and import, perhaps a few tourist vessels that will bring a bit of income to our locals.Don’t sell the port to Chinese who will have their own people, their own goods, which will be very cheap, perhaps their tea made in China will even be cheaper than our, thus undercutting our local businesses.
I very much support their 5G but to get in too involved using the port will give the wrong signals to other main powers where they will think that we are no more a NETRAL COUNTRY and this would endanger us.These western powers will counter this by getting the Indians take control of us.Better be neutral and non aligned.
We could allow the Chinese to set up factories, especially for oxygen and vaccine making.let others do the same, which I doubt.Let them set up under BOI without the government in power not getting involved with seeking favours like kick backs and commissions. Let the foreigners set up business without politicians getting involved that would lead to the national debt. Politicians must get out of politics and do business like other hardworking business people in the country. Be in the parliament to serve the people…..
