Six new COVID fatalities in Sri Lanka

Six new COVID-related deaths were reported in Sri Lanka on Wednesday (April 28), says the Director-General of Health Services.

Following the confirmation of latest coronavirus victims, the country’s death toll now stands at 661.

According to the particulars released by the Government Information Department, the details of the victims are as follows:

01. A 56-year-old man from Pallegama area: He died on April 25 while receiving treatment at the Mawanella Base Hospital. The cause of death was identified as COVID pneumonia.

02. A 45-year-old woman from Weerapokuna area: She was diagnosed with novel coronavirus while receiving medical care at the District General Hospital in Chilaw. She was then moved to the Homagama Base Hospital where she died on April 27. COVID pneumonia and sepsis were cited as the cause of death.

03. A 72-year-old man from Haliela area: He was transferred from Badulla General Hospital to Theldeniya Base Hospital where he died on April 28 due to acute COVID pneumonia.

04. A 65-year-old woman from Mawanella area: After testing positive for novel coronavirus, she was transferred from Mawanella Base Hospital to Sir John Kotelawala Defence University Hospital where she died on April 23. The cause of death was recorded as heart failure aggravated due to COVID infection.

05. A 66-year-old man from Nittambuwa area: He died on April 24 at Wathupitiwala Base Hospital after suffering from COVID lung infection.

06. A 69-year-old man from Wattala area: He passed away on April 27, while undergoing treatment at the National Hospital for Respiratory Diseases in Welisara. The cause of death was recorded as COVID pneumonia.
