Dear Friends
The ground is set for another peace talk, as the routine work of ethnic issue.
The public is fed up with the peace-war scenario, which has been practising
through out the ethnic issue.
The leaders, who are in the power rush to the conclusions of peace talks that ends up with empty hands. Soon after the failure, they run in to the mass media and blame the militants as the way that they blame them for bombs.
Nor a leader neither a scholar who initiate the negotiations, learn the facts from the past. In the present circumstances, the ethnic issue is inseparable from the acts of LTTE; hence, the negotiations are inevitable with them.
Though the LTTE stands for their own benefits in the name of Tamils representation, the government has to consider their demands.
However, one should realise that the benefits, which LTTE will lose in the peaceful environment. There is much to be lost for them in peaceful environment with compered to war-toned conditions. Hence, it is natural that the LTTE go after excuses that able them to leave the peace deals.
Considering the above facts the peace dealers must make a proper ground without loose ends that LTTE can escape. It dose not mean that the government would provide what the LTTE demands for, throughout it’s existence.
As the well-known objective of them, the separation must be out of agenda. There is no meaning to sit together in order to decide the borders of the ELAM.
In order to keep the LTTE on the table under a one-country concept the dealers have to be honest and tactful. An interference of a facilitator would be a fair option in an environment where each other do not trust.
The mediator would be a person or an organisation that willing to see peace in the country. That who has their own objectives and working for their own interests has to be kept away from the scene.
In the meantime, the mediator would be strong enough to implement the agreed accords if necessary. Before the all facts listed above there should be a common base in the South, regarding the ethnic issue. There must be an agreement within the parliament for the peace agenda.
As we see the positive move of the opposition in the ethnic issue, the government must make the maximum use out of it to reach a peace deal.
The ruling party must be generous to claim that the whole effort as a collective approach. The success of the effort relay on the facts of beyond the party politics. The masses do not care who makes the peace, but only the peace. If the effort succeed, as we hope, the credit can be shared among them selves who made the larger contribution.
If the processes failed as in the history, after a honest effort, no one going to blame the front liners of the deal. Because of one has to do what is necessary at the current moment regardless of the results. The results may be well beyond the control of a person who initiate the process.
