Indian Captain Gets Off Easily ,Being Un-Gentlemanly.

The Seeing Eye - SightScreens Unlimited For LankaWeb

Where did he learn his cricket?, in the slums of some impoverished neighbourhood in his native country where it is more than likely swearing at opponents is commonplace due to the harshness of its environment, where cricket is merely a release of frustrations and Sourav Ganguly the Indian Captain seems to be a by-product of this unfortunate contingency, a disgrace to great Indian captains of the past where names such as Azzarudhin,Gavaskar,Kapil Dev and many more who carried themselves with great dignity so Mr.Ganguly should consider himself extremely lucky not to be suspended in the series and beyond.

Indeed Mr. Cammie Smith has shown leniency in letting him off the hook when he really deserved a boot in his rear end! a hobnailed one of yore at that!!. One wonders how a certain trigger happy Mr. Hanumant Singh would have responded in similar circumstances!! albeit the decision being directed against a compatriot?

The world watches in dismay at the continued outrages and drama that unfolds in the Arena of International Cricket where players hurl abuse and show a total disrespect to the game, special mentions also directed to confirmed swear-mongers such as Darrin Gough, Miandad, one of the Chappels in his day now converted to gentleman by virtue of his broadcaster status, Imran Khan, Shane Warne and even Atherton, Caddick and Stewart who have taken a pitch or two and got away scot free but not gone unnoticed by the discerning eye.

Its high time the ICC introduces more stringent penalties and suspensions to players who break the code of ethics and brings to disrepute the Gentlemen's Game which appears to be fast becoming one of hooligans, the likes of Ganguly who really should be stripped of his captaincy and asked to restart in the Ranji Trophy where his mentality would probably be tolerated as it certainly does not fit into the level of International Cricket which demands a high level of gentlemanly behaviour. In games such as Baseball, Soccer, Rugby and American Football to name some, players and coaches alike get ejected and fined for unruly behaviour so why not cricket?

As the game of cricket advances past the 21st Century it certainly has become faster paced than in bygone years and hence probably a bit more sophisticated with three umpires and a match referee to control the game and maintain its rules and to resort to the behaviour such as Ganguly's most recent, is none but appalling and is a poor example to emerging players and must be stopped in its tracks.

Russel Arnold is a tribute to the Sri Lankan Squad by virtue of his wonderful talents as a cricketer and more than anything else the decorum and class he has shown in maintaining his dignity as always together with the rest of his team mates who provide entertaining cricket wherever they go win or lose! and carry on the wonderful standards set by the great Lankan players of the past including Vernon Prins, The Gunasekeras, Nathanielz's, Navaratnes, Mike Tissera,Herbert Fernando, Arjuna Ranatunga Duleep Mendis, Anura Tennekoon etc. etc. as the list goes on and on, gentlemen born and bred! who played the game to its gentlemanly best.

HOWZATT!
