FRONT ORGANIZATIONS OF THE TAMIL TIGERS IN CANADA DEFEAT THE VERY PURPOSE OF THE BAN OF THE TERRORISTSBy Walter Jayawardhana reporting from Los AngelesWhile Canada’s decision to name the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam is commendable it would be a meaningless exercise if front organizations of the terrorist group were allowed to function in the country declared the Sri Lanka United National Association of Canada (SLUNA). In a memorandum sent to John Manley, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the National Security Committee, the Association of Canadians of Sri Lankan origin said allowing front organizations to operate to do the very work of the terrorist organizations would render the ban meaningless. The memorandum said, the terrorist organization the LTTE existing over two decades in Canada, through its front organizations had even infiltrated the body politic of Canada with the allure of campaign funds and assurances of block voting by the Tamil Diaspora whom they manipulate and control. The organization said the next logical step of the government would be to sealing off the conduits of money to the Tamil Tiger terrorists by extending the proscribing laws to cover their known front organizations and ancillary propaganda and funding arms. "There is little doubt," SLUNA said, "that with the LTTE being designated a terrorist group, the front organization would have hastily scrambled to transfer accumulated funds. It would be advisable to trace the money trail to determine the amounts and the exit channels used for the illegal diversion of funds for the end use of a designated terrorist group." The memorandum named, Federation of Associations of Canadian Tamils (FACT), World Tamil Movement (WTM) of Ontario, World Tamil Movement (WTM) of Montreal, WTM Student Organization, World Tamil Women’s Organization, Tamil Eelam Society of Canada, Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO), Tamil Eelam Economic Organization (TEEDOR), Eelam Tamil Association of BC, Tamil Coordinating Committee (TCC) as some known major front organizations of the terrorist group. SLUNA requested the government of Canada to enact necessary legislation to deactivate the front organizations of the LTTE and said the Trojan Horses that had entered the cities would continue to raise and siphon off funds for the Tamil Tiger terrorism that kills and maims thousands of civilians in far off Sri Lanka.
