DR. PETER SCHALK, A LTTE PROPAGANDIST CHARGES THAT JAYALATH JAYAWARDENA HAS TO FIGHT 'SIMHALATVA HOOLIGANS' IN UNF GOVT.
By Walter Jayawardhana reporting from Los Angeles
Dr. Peter Schalk, a leading propagandist for the terrorist group Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam charged that Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena, the Minister of Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Refugee Affairs of the United National Front administration of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe "has to fight a horde of Simhalatva hooligans in his administration" in the discharge of his duties as a minister.
Dr. Schalk, a teacher of the Uppsala University in Sweden and a regular contributor to Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam publications, who at times even mixes Tamil phrases in his English writing to stress his points said in the Circle Digest, the daily electronic bulletin of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, that Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena is serious and genuine in his work but he has to fight "a horde of Simhalatva hooligans" in the Ranil Wickremesinghe administration.
This is the first time any writer has complained that Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena, who is believed to be very close to the terrorist group, Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and often praised to the sky by the pro-LTTE politicians has faced opposition from within the government of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
But Dr. Schalk, who names the opponents of Dr. Jayawardena, in the government as only "Simhalatva hooligans" writing in the issue of the Circle Digest of January 7, 2002 did not name names of any politician or official of the Ranil Wickremesinghe administration of opposing the Minister. Jayawardena is very affable to the LTTE whom the government is trying to befriend with, in order to establish peace in the strife torn island. Minister Jayawardena is believed to be a close confidante of Prime Minister Wickremesinghe.
Dr. Schalk also did not say whether the opposition to Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena 'S work came from within the cabinet of ministers, from his political party or from his own ministry.
Dr. Jayawardena, in a statement issued by him and put up in the official information department website has justified the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam taking up arms and has said that the Tamil youth had to take up arms due to the injustice done to them for the last 50 years by varied governments. But during this half a century, for the longest period of time, the country had been run by administrations of his own political party or coalitions led by that political entity, the United National Party.
Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena in the past was accused as a spy of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam especially after he attended a pro-LTTE conference in Canada. Reminding readers of the conference, which he also attended as a co-delegate, Dr. Peter Schalk wrote, "We all remember Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena who for many years has been chased by Simhalatva hooligans for allegedly supporting terrorism. I remember when he was hacked to pieces after the conference in Canada, where we both were. Now he is a Minister in the new government! His time of victimization is over. There is justice. The Simhalatva hooligans have lost another case. Their disgusting writings, however, we can still find on internet: http://www.spynews.net/DrJayalathJayawardene.html."
Dr. Peter Schalk was referring to the website of the US based World Spy Magazine in which the Minister of the Sri Lanka government is still listed as a spy of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam together with the terrorist group's intelligence chief Pottuamman. An Indian court for the murder of the former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi has convicted Pottuamman, who is still at large. Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena has denied the charge that he has worked as a spy for the LTTE. The magazine, owned by a US company has not credited anyone for writing the profile of Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena as a spy for the magazine.
Dr. Peter Schalk has a long history of active work done for the terrorist group, the LTTE and once barred from entering India allegedly for his links with the terrorist group.
