JVP PROTESTS THE STATE VISITOR PROTOCOL ACCORDED TO ANTON BALASINGHAM AND SAYS IT IS EXAMPLE OF SUBSERVIENCE TO TIGERS

By Walter Jayawardhana reporting from Los Angeles

The way LTTE’s chief negotiator Anton Balasingham was received at the Katunayaka International Air Port and dispatched with an attending military officer in an Air Force helicopter to a reception of the separatist armed forces held in the Tamil rebel held areas was a public example of how the Ranil Wickremesinghe government was shamelessly subservient to the Liberation Tiger’s of Tamil Eelam and ever ready to meekly acquiesce to the wants of the terrorist group charged the opposition Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna(JVP).

The JVP member of Parliament Bimal Rathnayaka speaking on behalf of Sri Lanka’s second largest opposition party was commenting on the arrival of Anton Balasingham from London with his wife Adele, in an Air Lanka flight at Katunayaka to be flown in a Sri Lanka Air Force Antonov helicopter, October 15, with Wing Commander Rajah Wickremesinghe attending to a second reception by the separatist armed forces of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam at “Malathi grounds” in Puthukkudiyirippu in the rebel held Wanni.

The opposition parliamentarian lodging his vehement protest said the state visitor protocol accorded to a separatist terrorist of the country was above what was accorded to the Pakistan President who visited Sri Lanka recently.

Rathnayaka alleged the Pakistan President was offered ground transport to arrive in Colombo while the terrorist leader was offered air transport to Wanni by helicopter.

Sri Lanka government’s Defense Secretary Austin Fernando replying the protest over BBC’s Sinhala program Sandeshaya said it was wrong to say His Excellency Balasingham was separatist since he was the one who had said their goal was not separatism.

Austin Fernando said the new development indicated the growing trust of the Liberation Tigers and Sri Lanka government.

Balasingham who arrived at Katunayaka from London in Sri lanka Airline Flight UL 506 at 9.12 a.m. was whisked away in the Air Force helicopter for him to arrive at a LTTE military reception at 10.36 a.m.

He would later consult terrorist leader Velupillai Prabhakaran in regard to the second round of direct talks with the Ranil Wickremesinghe government ministers at Sattahip naval base in Thailand at the end of the month.

JVP’s Bimal Rathnayaka drew attention to the fact that Balasingham arrived at the very airport his terrorists destroyed about one year ago bringing the island nation’s economy to naught and said the Ranil Wickremesinghe government was ever ready to meekly kneel down before the LTTE and acquiesce to the wants of the terrorists at anytime.

Rathnayaka said when Balasingham arrived last time he not only violated Sri Lanka’s airspace by coming in a sea plane from Maldives the government brought the country’s self respect by allowing him in Iranamadu.

The JVP parliamentarian said it was all right if the UNP was doing all this on behalf of their party but they should understand that they were acting on behalf of the state of Sri Lanka.
