SLA Lance Corporal killed by the LTTE

Special correspondent, July 26. In a clear violation of the MoU between the Sri Lankan government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, a lance corporal attached to the Military Intelligence Division of the Sri Lanka Army was mercilessly assaulted and killed by the LTTE on July 22nd, 2002 in Vakarai.

Lance Corporal Sandurajan who was serving in Batticoloa was abducted by the LTTE on the 3rd of July, 2002 at Udayapuram. He was held in the Karadiyanaru LTTE camp and subjected to intense questioning by LTTE leader Karuna on his role in the killing of LTTE leader Captain Nizam, according to the Island of July 26th. He was then mercilessly assaulted and killed.

As a member of the Sri Lankan Army, Lance Corporal Sandurajan was covered by the ceasefire currently in operation between the Sri Lankan Armed Forces and the LTTE. Therefore his abduction, detention and murder by the LTTE constitute a clear and flagrant violation of both the ceasefire and the MoU. However it is not known whether the Lankan defence authorities complained to the SLMM about the abduction and the subsequent killing of Lance Corporal Sandurajan. So far there has not been any public protest from either the Defence Minister/Armed forces or the SLMM about this deliberate violation of the ceasefire and the MoU by the LTTE.
