Doctors ! Are you here to save or ruin life?

J Fernando. London

I have read with interest your article about the unfortunate Mr X and his problems with the NHS.
I deal with doctors daily as part of my work and have never come across a more lamentable chain of events than those you described, but I would say that they were an exception and by no means the rule.

The NHS is under staffed and underfunded and no-one knows that more than the doctors working to make the NHS something to be proud of.
I ask you whether suing any or all of the doctors involved in this incident is the answer?
There is the possibility that two or three doctors may have their careers ended or seriously damaged which is hardly going to help an already streched NHS.

I speak to all grades of doctor daily from House Officer to Senior Consultant and the message is the same...There aren't enough doctors.

As for your closing statement:
And who said our Sri Lankan hospitals and our Sri Lankan doctors are bad !

I can show you plenty of Sri Lankan doctors that get glowing reports from highly respected Consultants and are asked back time & again to work on their teams.

Keep up the great writing.
