HAVE YOU BEEN A GOOD SAMARITAN TO VEN SOMA THERO ?

Dear Sir Prof. Shanti P. Jayasekara,

I have visited your web site and my attention has been directed towards your welcome message. Your qualifications are very striking. I have been following various accounts given on Ven Soma Theros death and even read some of your mails reproduced in various other web sites.

This welcome message shows a marked difference between the standard of English compared to what has been presented to us.

I am my self a qualified person but I find it a little difficult to comprehend your own description as "Sir Prof". What has been conveyed to us is that you are a Reverend (commonly known as a Padunnanse or Pastor).

We hear various accounts of you as a village boy of Sri-Lanka who did not even come back for your fathers funeral. If you were a reverend, as others hold you to be, I do not see any reason, for you to conceal that fact, as this would have been a glamorous qualification.

It would have enhanced your credibility with a religious back ground. There are various reports regarding the death of Ven Soma Thero and TV programmes in Sri-Lanka shows that Soma Thero always addressed you in the overseas calls as Mr. Jayasekera which suggests that the thero was innocently ignorant of the fact that you are a Christian missionary.

My attention has also been drawn to the illusionary photographs which shows that Soma Hamuduruwo had three hands upon his arrival in Russia, Some reports say that Soma Hamuduruwo was operated in Russia, while others say that he passed away without being operated.

If I have understood our local doctors correctly, there appears to have been attempts to do surgery. I have known Soma Hamuduruwo to a reasonable degree but I can vouch that he was never suffering from a heart ailment.

I must make it clear to you that it is an inescapable fact that the Thero went to Russia on your personal invitation but it is not clear what the links were.

It would not be unfair to suggest that the followers of Soma Thero did expect you to play the role of a GUARDIAN ANGEL but there is no evidence to suggest that you have lived up to the expectations of a reasonable person, leave aside a Christian Missionary.

It is also a great puzzle, to many, what reasons contributed towards helping Soma Hamuduruwo. It is strange, that in the back ground of these mysterious circumstances, why you did not make a detailed report of the events commencing from his exit from Sri-Lanka to his death in Russia.

You have by your acts of negligence created a situation for any civilized person to view you with suspicion and bias which has given signals to this country the emergence of religious unrest, in a country which has been war torn for years.

It is also my concerted view that you have failed to live up to the role of a good Samaritan a role that a Christian should be quite familiar. You have, by your conduct, brought more than an element of suspicion on the innocent catholics who have always condemned conversions of the type the Christian missionaries are reputed for.

You have by your conduct denied the many Christians of going for Christmas eve mid night mass. In short you have discredited Jesus, Christianity and the crucifix. I am releasing this open letter to the media and in all probability they might publish it.

My dear professor please issue a lucid, concise report with complete clarity detailing the events in the chronological order.

If you do that in sufficient depth there might be a little chance to clear suspicions that have surfaced but if you remain passive, I am afraid, that you will be held further responsible for events that are likely to follow the shadows of which we clearly see.

The question is have you been a good Samaritan to our lovable Soma Hamuduruwo.
