Tamil People seem to evade
from tiger dominance- JVP Press Release
Somawansha Amarasinghe
The Leader of the People's Liberation Front
It is obvious that the LTTE has split into two groups. It's inevitable
that dissention within the LTTE will give vent to serious explosions
in the future.
Tiger terrorists, who forcibly tried to portray Prabakaran as the
"Sun God" among the whole Tamil community, have now begun
to hear the Tamils of the East saying that Prabakaran is the traitor
of the Tamil community. It is the duty of all forces that stand for
democracy and peace based on equality to make this just call the resounding
voice of the whole Tamil community.
The sooner this duty is fulfilled, the day that will see the Sinhala,
Tamil, Muslim and other communities live in peace and harmony in any
part of the country as brothers and sisters will not be far away.
Tiger terrorists started killing with the assassinations of Tamil
politicians who were engaged in democratic election campaigning in
the North and East. Leaders of the Tamil United Liberation Front who
fed and fostered them but later opposed them were assassinated cold
blooded by the Tigers.
Afterwards civilians and members and leaders of other separatist
organizations were also killed. In cases of dissention within the
organization the only solution the leader had was to murder anyone
who did not obey him. Because of these endless assassinations ,harassment
and torture suffered under the murderous rule of the LTTE the majority
of the people in the two provinces have developed a seething hatred
towards the Tigers. As the Tiger leader in the East escaped death
warrant from Prabakaran the LTTE has now a tough challenge before
them. As the people have now come forward to express their disgust
towards Prabakaran in public, undoubtedly this challenge will be remarkably
intensified.
There had been internal conflicts within the LTTE as there are today.
In 2001 when the UNP while in opposition had secret talks with its
leaders, the LTTE had exhausted their strength. There had developed
a powerful international lobby against them. Their foreign funding
had met with restrictions. The tamil parents in the North and East
protested in public against the forcible recruitments of children
for the war. The LTTE was deeply confused in the face of the local
and international opposition to them. Covert operations of the Millennium
City Army Unit had a heavy blow dealt on them.
The United National Party began secret talks with the LTTE when they
were in deep trouble. it was revealed that UNP leaders had several
rounds of talks with Gnanakoon in Singapore who arranged arms shipments
for the LTTE. These secret talks led to covert agreements with the
LTTE.The Probationary government was overthrown by a conspiracy. UNF
managed to cheat the people and come to power at the Dec. 5 th general
election.
From then onwards the secret agreements came into effect. The infamous
Accord of Betrayal was signed in secret with the Tiger leader. The
tigers who had fallen found themselves in a position where they could
lay the foundation for a separate state in the North and East without
firing a single bullet. Thereafter immense were the difficulties that
followed. The responsibility for this situation goes to both the UNP
and the Tigers. The apparent peace is not a lasting but an illusive
one. The country has been plunged into an uncertain situation. The
LTTE unilaterally withdrew from peace talks from April 2003.
The UNP enraged by the imminent defeat is prompting the LTTE for
a renewed war. At this juncture we warn the country ,the people and
the President in particular that the UNP and other local and foreign
conspirators abetting separatism have moved into action as they see
the rift within the LTTE is an obstacle on their way to achieve their
treacherous and personal agenda.
Eastern province inhabited by Sinhalese Tamils, Muslims and Burgers
who practice Buddhism Hinduism Christianity and Islam has a semblance
to the Western province. Therefore the need of the hour is to create
a conducive environment in the Eastern province for the people who
demand salvage from the LTTE to live in harmony with other communities
living in the area.
